On another note, a physical game like last night would have been a perfect one for Karlis Trops, who has missed the last four games with an orbital bone fracture. He will probably miss a few more weeks, and his presence could have made a difference in these tight games due to his physical nature and versatile skill set. Right now, after Shane Payne, H-SC doesn't really have a 4-man...Payne was tremendous coming off the bench in the first 1.5 games, and not having that second man at the 4 is tough for Coach Vick.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the Tigers fall on some tough luck when it comes to injuries??? Troy Kaase's ACL and Turner King's lung two years ago, Tyler Murray's broken leg last year, and now Karlis Trops' eye this season. Whatever we did to deserve this...I am sorry!!! ;D

FYI:

Badcall says he is and EMU fan, but don't believe it.  He hasn't said to many positive things about EMU.  He is a true Bridgewater fan at heart that has some interest in EMU.

I am all for giving accurate information regarding your team, but it's obvious that Badcall is a Eagle fan.

HSC tried but the last minute effort again did not bring it their way and it was quite an effort.  After being behind most of the game, they cut a 9 point lead of Roanoke and actually went ahead by one or two in the last several minutes.  The final was 70-65 in Roanoke's favor with their defense working stongily and some very timely 3 point plays by several Roanoke players.  HSC guys were emotionally off as they will stay in Roanoke overnight to attend Turner King's Mother's funeral tomorrow morning.  It has been an emotional week for Turner and everyone involed and it speaks well of his character.

My condolences go out to Mr. King and his family.

My condolences as well.

I just got home from Ragan-Brown Field House where the Quakers thoroughly thumped the Marlins.  It was close for about 2-3 minutes before Guilford surged to 18-7 and 34-15 leads.  The Marlins would make an occasional run, but never got it under nine.  Macedo's frustration was punctuated by a first half technical and one of his players also got an intentional foul in the second.  I haven't reviewed the attached boxscore, but suffice it to say the Quakers appeared to generally outshoot, outrebound and outhustle the Marlins today.

GC improves to 5-2, 1-0, while I believe VWC drops to 3-5, 0-2.

And whatever beastly freshman VWC had, was completely outbeasted by the best beasts in the ODAC.  Seriously, Sanborn and Neville make a really fine combination inside, you bet.   Both guys have hugely stepped up to fill their new roles.  Of course, the throwers of RMC will be the real test in there.

I really loved watching that game.  Guilford's outside game was also very hot.  Lots of nice assists too.
Always a great pleasure to beat the Fish.
Thanks for the game, guys.

You're exactly right. Guilford played extremely hard today and they made big shots. Whenever it seemed like the Marlins were about to start a comeback, Rhett Bonner or Clay Henson would hit a clutch shot. Bonner can really shoot it.

Hopefully the Marlins rest up and can turn it around... they've got a ranked team and former player/assistant coach in  Dave Doino @ NC Wesleyan coming to the Fish Tank, so they better get it together.

Thanks, DeWayne.  Bonner's shooting was already generally good, and now he's started to value the ball more; he's become a really strong piece of the puzzle.

VWC 08-09 has yet to gel.  I'll bet they can, though.

NC Wesleyan is a tough game for anyone this year.  :P  I wish you good luck with it.

FortyFour

Tough game for the Marlins...but it's been a tough couple weeks.  This was the first game where it looked like everyone was able to suit up for the Fish, as Meredith got some time today.  Hopefully the team get it all together in the next couple weeks.

P.s. I wouldn't say some who outshot and outscored another player was "completely outbeasted" (comparing McDuffie and Sanborn's lines).  But I was impressed the improvement Sanborn has made...he is on his way to being a really outstanding post player for the Quakers.

FYI  NC Wesleyan is a fine team, but the Bishops lost their first today in the finals of their own tournament to DIII provisional (and now 8-0) St. Vincent (PA).

Bad Call you need to change your name to DIEHARD EAGLES FAN, or EMU HATER.....  Stop claiming your an EMU fan. Such a fan of EMU you call them the minnies when you should be calling them the Best Team in the Valley thus far in this young season!!! Your obviously an EMU HATER.  Kirby helps make the schedule first off,  actually does it 1 yr. or more in advance, and its the same ODAC teams as before, the schedule means nothing, you play each team in the ODAC, so hate on emu b/c they don't play GC or RMC 2x's but they only get Randolph 2x's,  but I guess Kirby can predict who will be good and who won't (thats rediculous)!!  Anyone that opens with VWC and you say its the easiest ODAC schedule of the year, yet they close with GC RC W&L BC and VWC with 3 of 5 away, your an EMU hater!!  The ODAC is the ODAC. EMU has played Averett, SVU on the road (who beat BC at BC, and beat D2 West Va. Tech by 17), VWC, and Greensboro beating all of these teams, I would hardly say an easy schedule. Pressure, steals, breaks and so forth, well what does that mean, EMU has nothing after playing hard, intense, pressure Defense??? Defense wins championships, oh and by the way EMU has 4 Sophmores Averaging double figure scoring a game. I would say they have a pretty balanced attack, with many weapons, NOT TO MENTION, LeRoger PARRISH A SR. STARTER(over 40 career starts) HAS BEEN HURT THE PAST 2 GAMES,not playing in 1 and minimal in the other AND EMU STILL WON. I would say they are doing something right.
So as I said before give EMU it's hard earned respect for a good start. The season is long and very young where anything can happen. But its still a good start.
I FIGURED OUT WHO YOU ARE, AND CAN SEE WHY YOU HATE ON EMU BUT YOU SHOULD REALLY BE HATING ON BC!!!!

Three-pointer on basketball passion.

Two-pointer on basketball logic.

Blocked Badcall's post move.

Turnover on sentence structure, capitalization and punctuation.

Technical foul on grammar, spelling and correct word usage.  "Let me count the ways."  Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

DeWayne & FortyFour - Tell me, what's going on with the Fish? I'm shocked at their play of late. Sounds like they aren't playing as a team and are not spending enough time practicing their free throws.

I see what you mean.  McDuffie also had a really good game for VWC.

jdub,   One look at the roster says it all.  YOUTH !!   I think the fish will struggle most of the year.  Maybe after the first of the year they will put something together.
