Hey.  I hope everyone's having a good holiday and is ready to get back into some post-Christmas hoops!

If anyone is attending or listening to the Marietta College tournament in Ohio (Marietta, Brevard, Emory & Henry and Westminster (PA)) next Monday and Tuesday (Dec. 29-30), my nephew is #42 for the BC Tornados.  Brevard faces E&H in the first game with host MC vs WC in the nightcap.  On Tuesday, there is a consolation game followed by Monday's winners playing for the championship.   My nephew thinks the E&H game will be interesting since the Tornados lead the SAC in defense and the Wasps are known for their "system" play - something has to give.  :)  My brother and sister-in-law are going, but I'd be interested in other impressions of the tournament.  Peace

Man that is a hard trip for Hiram coming into the city of Greensboro with a record of 6-2 and leave 6-4.

HSC looked good today against LaGrange.  They took it to them for the entire game.  Eleven people scored with King at his best with 29 points and 8 rebounds. Total of 90-68 with starters on bench for final 6 minutes, and they will play John Carroll tomorrow who beat Hood 92-68.  It will be a good match up. All of the HSC players who have injuries should be back tomorrow so Coach Vick has veryone to call on.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  HC lost both games (to Greensboro and Guilford) by 3 points.  Guilford was only 10 of 20 on FTs in the second half, so it shouldn't have been so close.  I hope that's just due to a 12-day Christmas break ... we'll find out tonight against Emory.  Greensboro, by the way, topped the EU Eagles last night, 59-57.

People aren't talking about Roanoke much as a challenger to RM-C, but they seem like one to me.

I'm wondering how Roanoke is going to do.

We can lose to Roanoke easily.  My experience with the Maroons is that you underestimate them at your own peril.  Any old school Hampden-Sydney fan can tell you this.

Happy New Year everyone.  I hope it's a safe and prosperous one for us all! 8)

ODACHOOPS

Man whoever was responsible for hsc's scheduling should get a HUGE raise haha 2 bible schools and Lagrange is a nice little 3 game stretch.  I dont care that maryland bible beat cnu or that Lagrange beat VWC both those teams are very average at best, taking nothing away from hsc, just making the point that the second most important thing in coaching (second to recruiting) is scheduling, point proven with hsc's last 3 games.  Hsc can wrap up a nice 4 game win streak today against J.C.  Turner King will be a 2 time all-american and finish as hsc's 2nd all time leading scorer, that is a promise!  Nothing anyone else doesnt already know though.

Rmc won handly last night and is facing #12 ursinus tonight in a championship game at 8 pm.  Should be a great one and RMC should be rested, seeing as how their starters did not even play the last 12 minutes of the game last night.  Also will be their biggest test of the year against a team that is nationally ranked and could, if they play well, show why RMC was ranked preseason.

I appreciate the update on this one.  Hopefully we can get through this game!

The Quakers topped the Emory Eagles 70-49 tonight in Greensboro.  GC got off to a slow start, trailing EU 20-11 after 14 minutes.  Guilford went on a 15-1 spurt to take a 26-21 lead and the half ended 29-23.  The Eagles stayed around 6-8 points down for a few minutes after the break, but Guilford pulled away for the 21-point win by shooting 17 of 22 (77%) in the second half.

These totals are unofficial by my count ... Rhett Bonner was hot tonight with five three-pointers and 20 points.  Henson 15, Neville 11 and Sanborn 10 were also in double figures (Sanborn also had 9 rebounds and 7 blocks).  Daniel Curtin had 10 for Emory and several other Eagles had 5 to 7 points each.

Guilford improves to 8-2 while Emory falls to 4-6.  This was a nice win heading into conference play.  Good luck to all the other ODAC teams tonight!

R-MC 75 #13 Ursinus 63. A great 2nd half by the Jackets, putting up 48 points and turning a 7 point halftime deficit into a 12 point win. According to the play-by-play guys and their interview w/Coach Rhoades after the game, it was 2nd half defensive intensity and offensive rebounding (14 for the Jackets in the game) that were the difference.

Not trying to steal your thunder odacfan1225. Looking forward to your account of the game.

odacfan1225

haha no its fine and you account is absolutely correct.  I am actually shocked the game turned out the way it did and I am huge optimistic about RMC's abilities.  After the first half Macon should have been down by about 25 or 30.  I cant wait to look at the stats b/c in the first half it really looked like Ursinus could not miss a shot and they had great shot selection.  On several possessions RMC would make ursinus use about 25 to 30 seconds of the shot clock, force a bad or off balanced shot (usually a 3), and they still would go in.  It was the complete opposite for RMC, they had several wide open shots and they just couldnt not buy a bucket.  They missed wide open 3s, layups, and midrange jumpers, just everything you could imagine.  Finally after missing a ton of shots Justin Short realized that the team really need a boost and something to break up the big scoring streak Ursinus was on.  With about 8 minutes left in the first half and RMC down 11 short brought the ball up the court and didnt not hesitate and just pulled at the top of the key and knocked down the 3(and this was after missing his first few shots).  When he knows his team is down and really need a bucket and leadership he always steps up and realizes it and gets it done and thats why I love his game.  So RMC was down only 7 at the half and that was great because they deserved to be down a lot more.  They second half was a different story.  Rmc's shots started falling and they immediately cut the lead down at the start of the half.  With about 12 minutes left the teams exchanged the lead several times with RMC finally started to pull away with about 5 or 6 minutes left.  In the second half Short and Jordan Brown took over.  Short made great shots but also penetrated, drew the defenders, and dished to his big men who all finished and who made all their free throws.  Brown also got a couple big buckets (his first 3 was the turning point in the comeback) but he was the key defensively.  Ursinus number 22 was amazing and in the first half dominated.  Brown and Veralea figured him out in the second half blocking him several times and forcing several bad shots.  Brown also had a few great blocks on other players.  The key in the second half was RMCs defensive and it was great, and it was pretty good in the 1st half, but they finished it off in the 2nd by forcing bad shots and the end of shot clocks that didnt drop or forcing Ursinus into bad turnovers.  The crowd really got into it during the come back and Ursinus responded badly to the pressure throwing the ball away several times.  Lastly rmc boxed out in the 2nd half getting almost every rebound that they should.
