EMU has a way of pulling out tight games alright, and they're sitting pretty at the top of the ODAC.  They've only beaten Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg and Hampden-Sydney so far.  Good grief  ::)  What year is this?

Nice starts for EMU, W&L, GC and Roanoke.  HSC, VWC and RMC have been up and down, but the Marlins and Yellow Jackets now seem to be playing where everyone expected them to be.  BC and E&H aren't dominant teams, but "scare" me ... "on any given Sunday."  I still think Lynchburg and Randolph will finish low in the ODAC, although LC got a "surprise" 5-point win over Ferrum after losing to the Panthers by 30 just two weeks ago.  Did I read this was LC's first win over FC in 30 tries?  Randolph? ... well, I predict it'll be a long year, but I do look forward to seeing them play in person.

I'm not trying to overlook games to be played over the next week, but 8-2 Guilford at 10-1 Roanoke on Jan. 12 is looming large.

According to the associative scoring rule then, Lynchburg is  35 points better than Lynchburg, which shows what kind of season they're having.
That's okay.

The ODAC "commutator" will reverse the second half of Lynchburg's season and they will be 35 points worse than Lynchburg in the second half.   :-\

Perhaps it is the year that players got confused on which EMU they were supposed to play for?

I retired from Eastern Michigan U. three years ago.  There was hope that that EMU would return to at least respectability this year (after some top-25 years in the 90s), but they are currently winless against D1 competition.  Did some of the players we thought we had wend their way to Eastern Mennonite? :o ;D

[I got acquainted with the D3 EMU through 'brain-farts' - I sometimes typed in EMU.edu (E. Mennonite) rather than EMich.edu (guess ;)).]

North Carolina and Texas also have a confusing pair in High Point U. and Howard Payne U., respectively.  Some schools jumped in quickly when they realized the importance of being the first to get the desired web address.

Hey sludge, are you going to make another game soon?  I'll be at the Lynchburg contest on Wednesday.  I wasn't sure if you were now just coming occasionally on weekends.  Looking ahead, Guilford and Brevard both have Senior Day on Feb. 21.  I've been wanting to see Randolph College play, as well as wish Neville and Stanley the best, but my nephew will probably come first.

Howard Payne University is hputx, just as Hardin-Simmons University is hsutx.

It works for us Texans!  ;)

Thanks, Ralph.  I was relying on memory (not a good idea for me!) about the first time I ever tried to access High Point University online with "hpu".  I was thinking I got Howard Payne, but the owner of "hpu" is actually Hawai'i Pacific University.  To access NC's High Point U., you use highpoint.edu.  I'm just glad Guilford got its own!  :)

By the way, congratulations to McMurry for being the first to top UT-Dallas this season!

Thanks, 'nova!

UTD is very good! Coach Butterfield has assembled a typical "ODAC" team.  Very smart!  Very disciplined!  Rarely makes stupid mistakes!  Unlikely to beat itself!

I think that (McM) Coach Holmes got into the UTD "deep bench", beyond the 7th player and was able to take advantage of the drop off in skill/talent.

McMurry goes about 10 deep, with some freshmen gradually picking up playing time as the season progresses.  McM's style of play is more athletic and possibly more up-tempo.  UTD controlled the tempo on Saturday.  We had a very good "inter-semester" crowd which helped.

I think that UTD wins the ASC-East and hosts the conference tourney.

ODACHOOPS

Can't remember the last time HSC-RMC was played on a Wed, maybe my mind has gone, but I thought that game was usually a Sat game. Either way..."ITS OFFICALLY MACON-HSC WEEK"..The biggest and deepest rivalry in the ODAC begins game 1 this Wed in Ashland. I know RMC will be heavily favored, especially with there recent hot streak and the Tigers recent Cold streak and with it being in Ashland.  But with this rivalry you can never count either team out.  Hope the students are back in time for the game, (well I'm sure the tigers don't) but it is them who truly make this rivalry soo special. When you bring together 2 teams with such a deep and "ugly" haha history a special and intense night it will be.

Not to mention the POY race-match up that will take place.  I know King and Short won't be guarding each other (I expect the yellow-jackets to "attempt" to slow down King with the long and athletic Brown, and I expect the tigers to put the long and quick mudd on short) regardless it should be a great showdown with clearly the 2 best players in the ODAC.

OCACHOOPS

I agree, HSC vs. RMC is a very special affair. I know the Tigers are not where they want to be, but give Coach Vick a couple of recruiting years and this game will really turn into something special. I've seen HSC play twice; first game and later during their recent tourney; I think they have improved in many important phases of the game; not sure if they are ready to make a run at RMC quite yet; but hopefully they can find a way to do so. Looks to me like the players are having fun and have responded well to Coach Vick. They will continue to improve and to work their way up in the ODAC over the next several years.

Coach Rhoads will have his very talented team ready to roll and I do believe the RMC students are back in school; so a true homecourt advantage to RMC.

Good luck and GO TIGERS !!!!!!

Turner King will be a 2 time all-american and finish as hsc's 2nd all time leading scorer, that is a promise!  Nothing anyone else doesnt already know though.

Further thoughts on Turner King's scoring ....

At his current rate of production, assuming 27 games a season (regular season plus 2 ODAC tourney games), Turner -- who now has 1113 points -- will finish with 2080 points, putting him 2nd place behind Russ Turner, who had 2272 points in 1988-1992.

For Turner King to go ahead of Russ Turner, the Tigers will need to get Turner an additional 9 games over the next 2 years by winning more post-season games ..... or Turner will need to up his production from 22.5 points/game to 27 points/game ..... or some combination of the two (more games + more points/game).

It's worth noting that Turner is likely to pass Jeff Monroe on the all-time career scoring list within the 6-8 games.

No question, Turner King is as good as any player HSC has had. His production game after game, is outstanding. He is fun to watch, handles himself extremely well, is a very good team player and a real hard worker. A class act that HSC can be very proud of. I hope he garners all of the post season honors he is so deserving of. I've seen HSC b'ball for along time and I've never seen a better player, maybe a couple as good, but none better. From everything I've heard about him, it seems he is as good of a person as he is a player. I wish him and his team all the best. I'm certainly pulling for him to excel in every way possible.

The GAME will always be special.  I remember when H-S upset us back in '86 or '87 when we were DII and all the phone calls from my H-S friends I got at my fraternity house.  More recently, I recall losing to the Tigers in the first round of the ODAC tournament last year.  No fun for the Macon fans. :P

I agree we should win on Wednesday, but have seen too many of these games over the years to ever be cocky about it. GO JACKETS! 8)

You're too conservative to be cocky, however minus a major melt down by the Jackets, I don't think you have much to worry about on Wednesday nite. If the Tigers keep improving you may have reason to worry when they get togther in Feb @ HSC.

That said, I'd love to see a major upset to jump start the Tigers into high gear !!!!! Good luck to all.

Go Tigers

Hey, Jacketlawyer.  You're right - it'll always be special.  I hope it's well-played and you're there.

We've talked for a couple of seasons about you attending an RMC at GC game.  The Ben Strong era's over, but both schools still have fine teams.  You should consider being my guest when they play on Sat., Jan. 31.  The Quakers will retire four jerseys at halftime - Dan Kuzma, Bob Kauffman, M.L. Carr and World B. Free - and dedicate the court to former HC Jack Jensen.  The latter three players had long NBA careers and were All-Stars.  All are scheduled to attend and I think it'll be a huge crowd.
