You're welcome, sludge.  I wish I'd seen Sanborn's game in person - 18 and 18 is an impressive game regardless of who you play - but some squads with more wins are yet to come.  I won't make the trip to Roanoke either, but I look forward to seeing you Wednesday night when E&H comes to Guilford.

Hey hasa,

Tonight is the night that the question of whether or not Roanoke is for real begins to be answered...

...a question I believe will be answered with a decisive 'no!'

Although a tough place to get a win, I see the Quakers going into the Bast Center and putting a 10-15 point victory on the Maroons (although 'Noke gets a nice set of games immediately after this game with a Jan. 14 home date against a struggling Bridgewater, another home contest with W&L on Jan. 17, and a trip to Randolph on Jan. 21 ~ RC will probably come out of that stretch still sitting pretty in the ODAC at 7-1 at the midway point of conference play).

The W&L game could go either way (as rivalry games tend to do), but I think 'Noke will snip the Gennies at home.

And let me take a moment to remove foot from mouth! 'Noke wins a tight one in Salem, further confirming the notion that this year's ODAC is too crazy to predict. I thought the duo of Sanborn and Henson would be too much for the Maroons to handle, but alas, I was mistaken.

Appears that Henson had "one of the those nights" from the floor. Although he finished with 18 points, 5-of-19 from the floor would be considered streaky. Those are the nights that he will have to avoid for the Quakers to be there at the very end!

Final - Roanoke 80, Guilford 76 in Salem

Hey, HSCfan, I listened to most of the game and was disappointed, but not overly surprised, at the outcome.  Historically, for whatever reason, Roanoke's had Guilford's number - 38-13 in the series I think.  Sigh.  Anyway, Sanborn played well (26/14), but Henson was only 1 of 9 on threes.  If he makes one more and the Quakers shoot a little better from the FT line, we win.  In fact, it was 78-76 and Guilford had the ball with 10-12 seconds to go and Clay missed a three.  We had to foul RC twice in the last 18 seconds and the Maroons made all four shots.

I wasn't there to see for myself, but the announcer said Palombo was irate at the officiating.  He's normally pretty calm, so he must have been upset.  C'est la vie.  It was a key game early in the ODAC schedule, but I still think the Quakers will contend for the title and beat RC in the return match.  Now, time to focus on E&H on Wednesday ...

My predictions for tonight, when ODAC play really gets going in a big way:

Roanoke hosts and defeats Bridgewater
Guilford hosts and defeats Emory & Henry
Randolph-Macon hosts and defeats EMU
Hampden-Sydney hosts and defeats Virginia Wesleyan

Washington and Lee will be the only team to go on the road and win tonight ..... but they're playing Lynchburg, so how could they lose?  ;)

OMG-Algernon is pouring gasoline into the Hornets' Nest!

Well, W&L could lose, but Algernon's right - LC's not very good this season.  I do predict, however, that LC will at least tie for the ODAC subtitle in the city of Lynchburg.  :)

Tigers have a 4-point lead over Virginia Wesleyan at the half.  To watch the game, go to http://hams-av.hsc.edu/basketball/

Guilford 80 - 60 over Emory & Henry with about 7 minutes remaining.  Lookin' good.

The tight game loss against Roanoke was respectable;  I think Roanoke is for real this year.
I'd like to meet them again at our place!

Good game for the Jackets.  Another lose for VWC ! They play Guilford,RMC and Noke in the next ten days. Thats a killer line up that could put them at 9-9 for the year... Man I hope !

The Quakers and Wasps were reasonably close at the half (50-43), but Guilford dominated the second 47-27 to take a 97-70 win in Greensboro.  Henson 28 (5 of 9 on threes), Sanborn 19/10, Lowder 14, Bonner 12 and Engebretsen 9 for GC.  Hudson 16, Grigg 13, Huckins 12 and Lee 8 for E&H.

These stats tell the tale:

FGs  GC 33/62, E&H 20/68
Threes  GC 13/22, E&H 7/33
Rebounds  GC 47, E&H 34

Guilford improves to 11-3, 4-1, while E&H drops to 7-8, 1-5.  For the Quakers, it was a great way to bounce back from the tough loss at Roanoke on Monday!  Now, a very important trip to VWC on Saturday!
