As I said earlier I thought this might happen-The final score was not indicative of the game-yes the Fish were up by 20 in the 2nd half and for 35 minutes out of 40 they were totally dominating us-the last 5 minutes we had a furious comeback to within 4 with 42 seconds left-Fields misses BOTH free throws,Jordan Brown gets the rebound, and has it taken away by Fields whom he has to foul-this time he goes up and HITS both-....that was so indicative of the game.I haven't seen a box score yet,but even when we are down 15 if we hit 70% of our free throws we would be ahead....just lots of costly bad mistakes  for us....and definitely not to take anything away from VWC-they flat out hit their shots, outrebounded and outhustled us tonite-they deserved to win for sure.......but it wasn't as close as the final....Jackets learn a valuable ODAC lesson tonite.........and got beat by a clearly better prepared (on this nite at least)and hungrier team.

I was afraid this was going to happen, so just thought I'd wait to see the outcome.  I don't remember the last time we won in Norfolk, but hopefully we can get a little payback at Crenshaw.
Jacketlawyer-It was UGLY!! you can't go 13-29 from the foul line and win many games.I really felt sorry for Justin Short-He probably in the first half played the worst half OF HIS LIFE....coming out of halftime you could see he was visibly shaken...and it wasn't so much the defense-he just played badly..but in the 2nd half he showed why he is one of the best(if not the best) guard in the conference-this kid has HEART-and it showed in the 2nd half. I don't know whether it was VWC,who clearly played a better game,or the Batten jinx(the last time we won there Jared Mills was a senior),or the fact that they were just on their game last nite and we weren't.They were ,for 35 minutes,a step quicker, smarter with the ball, better rebounders and defenders, and just flat-out WANTED IT MORE than we did. My 10 yr old could've seen that.Coach Rhoades was clearly furious at half when we were down 18-they didn't come out of the locker room until right before the start of the 2nd half(if those walls could talk-huh?).I don't think that todays practice will be very much fun at all....We clearly must play a total 40 minute game,as DonHo says,to advance in the tournament and beyond-otherwise we're one and done.......

There is no wagon...but there is a traewick....hop on if you like.  He is one of the most proficient ODAC players and will continue to succeed.  Stop him if you can.
This is just a suggestion, southernball, but I recommend you learn to correctly spell Trawick's name before you start the Fan Club.  :)  Also, do not, under any circumstances, run with scissors.  You could, of course, be visually confused as someone with rapier wit, but I'm much more confident the telltale blood stains will simply mark you as someone who should not run with scissors.  If you do, however, please get the scissors with the rounded tips and spit out your gum ... multi-tasking will increase your risks.  Carry on!

Smite that curious interloper. What's with all the "hater" drivel any way? B'water made my generals look like privates. Who are these "haters" and why does this Guest harbor (back to the sea) these paranoid delusions. Scissors? Just don't run aground on a rock in search of paper.

Ahhhh -sorry about that I slipped in Hatter mode - too much swordfish & Hg.

Ha.  Thanks.  I've honed my skills with a family full of smart alecks (Mom, I cleaned it up for you - it's "an" a-word, not "the" a-word!).  With a sister who's an Office Manager in a Federal Agency, a brother who's an Architect, a sister who's a HS Math Teacher for "problem" children, a brother who's a Ph.D. in Theology and me, no person or subject is taboo!  Family reunions are a constant source of entertainment, if not enlightenment!  And, oh, how we do carry on ...!  :)

Speaking of Rock/Scissors/Paper (and who doesn't think about it ten times a day?!), did you ever see Gary Larson's The Far Side cartoon about the same?   Anyway, it showed two cavemen playing the game and both got "rock."  As one of the cavemen lamented, "Damn, tied again!", the caption read "Rock/Scissors/Paper before the invention of scissors and paper".  Now, that was a hoot!  lol

RMC looked AWFUL last night at the Batten Center. VWC played well and deserved the W. I said in an earlier post that RMC was a good team but not head and shouders above the rest, last nights result proves that. Jackets it appears come into  the games I have seen ready to play only half a game. Coach has got to be tired of that. Come on guys wake up.

Cannot agree more...I believe I had a post about that back after RMC's defeat of George Mason in an exhibition game.  It is kinda sickening...

JWW,

If you are planning to attend tomorrow's game between the Marlins and the Maroons, let me know.  I wouldn't want you sneaking in the back door and trying to hide in the stands like Denbow's Roomie when you could be coming in through the special portal for honored guests.  Much to Warren Thompson's disapproval, the "Couch of Honor" has disappeared (probably carted off by foraging West Virginia celebrants) and the pep band is still working on fanfares for visiting dignitaries, but I'm sure we can arrange something appropriate.   JIM

We're looking forward to a first look at the young Randolph team today in Crenshaw.  Good luck to both teams for a great game!

GO JACKETS!!

Back from a months business out of town I am excited about tonights contest @EMU.  On returning, I find the league in a very competitive state and exciting I might add.  Congrats to my BC fellas on a great win over Guilford and to my EMU friends who have double figure wins already.  It should be a great game tonight and I will thankfully be perched atop the bleachers to enjoy it.  Previously, I had some comments about the Royals that were misconstrued or misunderstood, I just deal with the facts and I always root for both these teams!  BC seems to lack consistency and some interesting stats might tell us why.....in looking thru the ODAC stats I find that Michael Oblitey and Dom Trawick are 1-2 in the league in turnovers, and neither are point guards( very interesting)...this must be driving Don Burgess crazy.  Dom has certainly not played up to the hype he generates as he is shooting only 36% from the floor and on 29% from deep.  I hope both of these guys get it together and if they do not as they visit EMU it could be a blowout by the Royals.  EMU has a tough end of season league schedule while BC has a somewhat better end of year schedule.  Watch out for Lynchburg to pull some upsets down the stretch.  Page Moir a lock for ODAC Coach of the Year and Curtis Peery possibly POY.  Go Royals, Go Eagles.

I'm hearing a rumble that the Generals will have their troops in the Warner Center tonight. They're looking for the biggest student turnout in years. This game should be a good one to test the mettle of both HSC & W&L. Good Luck Gennies!!!

Virginia Wesleyan disposes off Roanoke this afternoon at the Bast Center. I think this game will prove to be turning point in the seasons of both teams. VWC is headed back into the top tier (where I felt at the beginning of the season they would be).

After watching Roanoke play H-SC earlier in the season I didn't feel that they were as good as their record. I think today's game could start that mid to late season slump that we have seen the Maroons suffer in recent seasons...

A win for the Generals tonight would go a long way in justifying their 4-2 ODAC mark. Thus far, their wins have come against E@H, EMU, Lynchburg and a Roanoke team that is trying to find itself right now. The win at Noke was certainly admirable, but the Gennies have yet to score that signature win that says "We belong." Will tonight be the night?? Good luck to both teams...
