RMC1982,

Just wanted to say that I like your quote.  Just like a marine to think positively in that situation.
I've noticed (and liked!) it also.  It's funny.  Sorry I haven't commented earlier, but Brian's note prompted me to speak up.  lol  By the way, I think the Tigers should hold all their pent-up aggression UNTIL the RMC game.  :)
Thanx-Guys!! ....and Hasa- The HSC student section asks no quarter and gives none either.....and neither do we when we play them in Crenshaw.....but that's what makes the rivalry so great......when I go w/My HSC buddies its for BLOOD.....until after the game when we tip a few ;) :P....but you might come home w/your tail between your legs if you're not careful on Wednesday........it's happened to us more than once.....

What is going on with our Tigers ??? Last four games (I think) have been well below par. They played so well against Bridgewater & VWC;  starting with the Lynchburg game they have not played very well. Do we have injuries ? Have some players missed due to flu ?  Any insight ?

Hopefully they will turn it around but the schedule is not going to be very kind winding down the regular season, but could help prepare them for the conference tourney, I guess !!!!!

You're welcome, rmc1982.  Trust me, I know.  You should have seen how a couple of thousand Quaker fans felt after our first-round NCAA loss to St. Mary's (MD) last March.  What a downer!  C'est la vie!

In my era, the Team You Loved to Beat and Verbally Harass was clearly Elon with the High Point College (now University) Panthers perhaps a close second, but those rivalries are essentially ... and sadly ... no more.  That's why Guilford's Nov. 2006 road exhibition win over the now DI Phoenix (it was the oxymoronic ... with the emphasis on moronic ... Fightin' Christians in my day).   Everyone got up for the game and, as you said, gave no quarter ... and expected none!  There was never an empty seat!  Ah, the chants of "if you can't go to college, go to Elon" still ring for me!  lol

Speaking of High Point, former Georgia/Kentucky and now current Minnesota Head Coach Tubby Smith is an HPU alumnus and basketball letterman.  When interviewed on ESPN about the toughest arena in which he had ever been as either a Coach or a player, he said "Alumni Gym at Guilford College" without batting an eye.  To the unitiated that may sound silly, but I was there for all four years he played and I understand completely why he said that.  In his own way, he was paying due respect to a very formidable rival ... and one he loved to beat ... but seldom did.  :)

That's why it's relatively tough for Guilford now, joining in 1991 and as the only out-of-state member (well, Catholic) of the ODAC, to build geographic or historic rivalries.  Given some more time, equality of wins and classic finishes, they'll come, but the geographic issue may always be there.   For what it's worth, I envy RMC and HSC in this regard.  If reasonably healthy, a strong rivalry is good for the schools, the sports teams, the alumni and ultimately, I think, the endowments.

Especially for RMC'82... those hushpuppies at the Pig are certainly worth the time, but if you want dessert save it for the new cupcake shop on the way to Crenshaw.  It's just down from the venerable "Andy's" and is called "My Little Cupcake" (only in Ashland ha ha).

We're rounding up the locals and hoping some young alums now living in Richmond will come out here and make some student-like noise.  The team would appreciate seeing them!  Glad you got tickets and hope you have a great trip here and back.

GO JACKETS!!!!!

Hey tigerfanalso!

It looks to me like our Tigers are pressing a little bit. They aren't displaying the confidence that they showed in those wins against VWC and BC, and with the recent struggles on the offensive end, the defensive intensity has seemed to take a bit of a lapse as well. One thing that stands out are the lack of field goal attempts for Turner King in critical junctures of games...I know that people wanted to give Zac White credit for King's 0 point night at W&L, but bottom line is that the Tigers were unable to run their offense, and King just didn't touch the ball. Most of the time, the action never got past the first or second pass, whereas Turner is used to getting the ball after a reversal or two. Same trend in the second half against EMU, as turnovers did not allow Turner to touch the ball on the offensive end resulting in just two second half shots.

I hope that the team finds that swagger that they had early in the year when they were so close to winning a few tough games and being 9-2. Everyone is healthy, I just think that the confidence has been shot a little bit. Hopefully that turns around soon!

Thanks for your input. Sounds like they better figure away to get the ball into the hands of Mr. King. Glad to know they are healthy. I'm going to leave their fate in your hands and sit back and enjoy the remainder of the season. Hopefully they'll be set to score a major upset in the tourney. They'll have nothing to lose and the top tier teams are not going to be happy about playing them in the early rounds of the ODAC tourney. Should/could be fun.

Go Tigers !!!!

Thanks for the info. The ODAC continues to be a very strong conference. Hopefully RMC & GC can make alot of noise on the national level later this year !!!!!

You're welcome, tfa.  Let's put Roanoke in that mix, as well ... tomorrow night's game will test whether they're still a serious contender for the regular-season championship.  I agree, the ODAC's a strong conference.  I think it suffers a bit from the same issue that affects the ACC's bid for a sustained #1 ... namely, beating up each other once conference play gets going!  I hope all ODAC teams do well in the NCAA's ... I always pull for every ODAC team until they're paired with each other!

Problem is Hasa-they never let more than 2 of us in,even when its warranted! Last yr the Jackets won 20 games (20-6 14-4 ODAC) and still get left out of the dance when we were good enough to be in...this yr at least 3 teams can make a case for it and it will NEVER HAPPEN......then when a lower seed comes thru and wins the tournament-which in our conference with all the parity can easily happen(example this year VWC for starters)then it makes all the more fun.....and I know it has to be that way with a lower number of teams than higher divisions, but it doesen't make it any easier(or fairer, for that matter) AHHHH-the run to the finish is gonna be interesting...... ???

To all Hampden-Sydney fans attending tomorrow night's game:

If you are on campus, I know you are probably tired of my emails and constant reminders, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! Tomorrow night's game is a "White Out," so make sure you wear a white shirt to the game! Also, the Hampden-Sydney Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be on hand sellling $1 raffle tickets (with all proceeds benefitting their annual canned food drive) for chances to win some great prizes that include gift certificates to restaurants in town, the H-SC Bookstore, $50 to the bowling alley in town, free rounds of golf at The Manor Resort, four tickets to the Macon game, and more. If your number is drawn prior to halftime, you will have a chance to shoot from halfcourt for $100 cash.

The raffle tickets will be sold at the entrance from 6:15 pm until tip-off at 7:00 pm, and the drawings will begin at 6:30. So come out wearing white to support the Tigers!

(Guilford fans, feel free to participate in the raffle! Hopefully H-SC can pull it out, but if not, $100 bucks and a win in Fleet Gym isn't a bad night at the ball game :))

Thanks all, sorry to interrupt on the board!

Well, never is not really true, since three (GC, VWC and HSC) went in 2007.  Two years ago was the type of scenario you describe.  Two highly-ranked teams with great records (GC and VWC) lost in the tournament and HSC got hot at the end of the season and won it.  In 2008, however, the first-place team (GC) also prevailed in the tournament final against another ranked team (VWC).  By losing so early in the ODAC tournament, RMC got caught in a numbers game with other Pool candidates.  If the Jackets had made it deeper in the ODAC tournament and had even one more win, I bet RMC would've made it.

No problem and thanks.  You don't think a Guilford fan would get booed if he/she won the $100 do you?  lol  By the way, since all the HSC fans are wearing white, mind if we wear black to create a little needed contrast?  :)

You wouldn't get booed too badly ;) And I think in our staff meeting today I may introduce a policy of charging $15 to anyone wearing a black shirt!

Hope you all have safe travels and enjoy the game tonight.
