Just wanted to let you know I'm searching for my Generals. They appear to have jumped the fence & gone AWOL. Here's hoping they get back on the winning track this week - Macon tomorrow and then L'burg & B'water at home. We have to regain our winning  ways.

Smithgraham77, I am thinking that Washington D.C. could use your positive thinking.... I just got to a computer for the first time all weekend and saw some of your post and said to myself ... are you kidding me? The Jackets LOST to Lynchburg OMG!!! Then realized it was all a matter of how YOU saw the game. My heart just kicked started again.

I think hasanova saw your Generals at Guilford;  they showed up.  Even on the second half, that I saw on video, it looked to me like the Generals you know and love were intact and marching.  In your gym the results might have been tougher for the Quakers.  You might turn out alright on this.

smithgraham77 ... Are you the reincarnation of Scottie? .... or do you merely embody the hope against all hope that so characterized him?

There is a time for hope, and this may just be the time that hope is most needed, given that the Lynchburg Hornets have lost 10 games in a row.

It is true that they the Hornets no longer finish 10th place in the ODAC ..... in 2008-2009 basketball season, with the entrance of Randolph-Macon Woman's College into the ODAC men's competition, the Hornets have fallen a step lower ... to 11th!

Whether or not Coach Scott can turn the program around still remains to be seen.  Maybe he will, maybe he won't.  Most of us wish him our best.

smithgraham77

there is always hope, even in the darkest times, ask Cubs fans :)

Aside from that, the increased competitiveness of the Hornets has unfortunately not shown in the win-loss columns, but anyone who knows anything about basketball will be able to tell you that the Hilliary Scott era Hornets has been a much more competitive squad than the Swickrath ones of the past three years. Unfortunately, Swickrath decided to screw over the team by not scheduling one single home game (the only 8 they have are mandated by the ODAC), making it increasingly difficult for LC to pick up Ws this season. Just go ask Mike Rhoades, Kirby Dean, Page Moir, Dee Vick, Adam Hutchinson, and Don Burgess how tough of a test LC gave their squads. I guarantee you the four coaches in that list that were here last year will tell you beating LC this year was no where near as easy of a task that Swickrath made it.

The biggest change you will never see in the standings or the record books is the fact that Hilliary Scott has completely changed the culture around here. He's not putting up with people with bad attitudes (which Swickrath allowed ), he's not allowing his team to quit on the season (which Swickrath allowed), and he is instilling the traits and doing the things in practice that will be needed to develop long-term success (which obviously Swickrath was a complete failure at). He's even managed to get fans excited despite the horrendous record.! Now that my fellow posters is a welcome change. With the level of respect Hilliary has garnered in the coaching world (which is invaluable when it comes to recruiting!), Hilliary should be able to begin bringing in players that can eventually turn the program around!

I hope you are right b/c the ODAC will be better for it if Scott gets things turned around.  Will only make the league more competitive from top-to-bottom.  But I would agree with hasanova that it will take time as indicated by his posting about Guilford's turn around.

Jackets VERY fortunate to win-62-58...didn't catch anything but the end of this one....help me out those who saw....looking at the stats we shot over 50% but turnovers were bad.......

Twenty-five (25) turnovers to be exact.  Embarrassing.  I could say a whole lot more, but I was waiting for the Benny Hill music to break out (again). >:(

It still looks, deep in the regular season, that a few of our guys don't wanna play two halves. :(

The kind words to an old campaigner are much appreciated. The invasion plans for Ashland are completed and jump off is imminent. I'm praying for a D-Day  and not a Dunkirk. I should have gone with this military stuff years ago. ;)

If you see the slapstick comedy routine I saw on Saturday, then you might be employing a different analogy! ;D

It's bound to start at some point.... so....

GC and R-MC have clinched a spot in Salem.  Even if they lose out, they are 10-2 and at worst will be 10-6.  VWC, currently 6th, is 6-7, so the best they finish is 9-7.

Roanoke, BC, and EMU are 8-4 for a 2 1/2 game lead on VWC.  It will be hard for any team to catch them, but even at 5-8, H-SC could still sneak in.  I think all of the current top 5 teams will stay there, but you never know.

E&H with 4 wins, Randolph with 2, and Lynchburg with 1 are guaranteed a play-in game.

Also, it will be very, very interesting to see how everyone did with the unbalanced schedule and how they finished in regards to opponents records.

Technically, VWC is in 6th and W&L is in 7th, but, in some ways, the Generals have a more inviable position than the Marlins.  Here's why:  W&L has a 5-6 ODAC record, two fewer games than VWC's 6-7.  The Marlins currently edge them out on winning percentage, but, as eagleslam noted, cannot finish better than 9-7.  On paper, however, the Generals still have a chance to finish 10-6 if they win their last five games.   The reality for W&L is, though, in order: Randolph-Macon, LC, BC, Roanoke and EMU.  I hope W&L has a strong finish, but I think a 1-2 week and a 2-3 (or maybe 3-2) stretch is likely.  The Generals are probably looking at 7-9 or, at best, 8-8, so I see them hosting a play-in game.

Anyone else see it another way?

A week or so ago, we were discussing EMU's rout of Washington Bible College and why such a game would even be scheduled.  There was a nice explanation and I understand the rationale.

Here's another one to consider from Feb. 5:

Randolph 83, Patrick Henry College 18

First of all, I had to look up phc.edu.  It was founded in 2000, but I'd never heard of it.  Second, I still don't know where Purcellville, VA is ... I've got to check it out.  Third, their website, like their sports teams, "are under development."  It looks as though the Sentinels field intercollegiate men's and women's basketball and soccer.  I have no idea if they have a conference or national affiliation, but if you score 18 and lose to the ODAC's 10th team by 65, you are still definitely in the building phase of your program.

Anyone else know something about this college?

With all due respect to the invading force, I hope the Generals won't rediscover themselves tonight in Crenshaw.

The Jackets usually play well at home and the students returned for spring semester today, so here's hoping for a big, loud success for the home team.

Best of luck to both teams for a great game tonight.... GO JACKETS!!!!!

Hasanova, if I recall correctly PHC was founded to foster more conservative social and political teaching than was thought to be available in the Commonwealth's higher ed community.

I could very well be mistaken, but I think a part of their mission is to provide a more hospitable campus environment for young people who have received home schooling educations.

If I'm completely wrong, I hope someone here will correct me.  (We have no clue where Purcellville is either...)

Here's hoping that the Jackets start playing 40 minutes. Never could imagine that at this point in a season anyone would still be trying to get players to play a full 40 minutes.
    POY is wiiiiiiiide open!
