derrick woods-morrow has been an excellent player for the WildCats this season and without a doubt should be mentioned in ROY conversation. At only 6'4", the kid has established himself as one of the premier rebounders in the league and has been an extremely efficient player on the offensive end as well, coverting baskets at a high percentage while rarely turning the ball over and getting to the foul line at a high rate.

He has seven double-doubles, which is tied for second in the ODAC with Curtis Peery. He scored 21 at macon and has nine game with 10 or more rebounds, which is second in the conference and two ahead of Peery. His 16 rebounds against Ferrum is the third highest single game total in the ODAC this season.

Currently ranks 22nd in scoring (11.2) which is the second highest amongst all freshmen. Second in the ODAC in rebounding (8.7), with the closest person behind him being Mason Wooldridge at 7.4. He is third in FG% at .590, eighth in blocks (.81), first in offensive rebounds (3.76), and fifth in defensive rebounds (4.90), yet he only ranks 25th in minutes played with 25.95 minutes a game. His ranks are equally as high in odac-only games, so it's not like he's been racking up his numbers against scrub teams like Patrick Henry College.

Good post and a great argument.  Opinion backed by facts, excellent.

This saturday will show us if this team has what it takes to win the big games. Yes I said big game cause I  half-way beleive that VWC has our number! Come on Jackets show your nads and blow em out of Crenshaw.

Eight straight losses to the Marlins, hard to believe.  That needs to change Saturday.  GO Jackets!!!

I wonder if Mr. Woods would consider transfering to HSC before next season. Sounds like he's quite the player.

HSCFAN

I've seen the Tigers six times this year; the very first game (I can't remember the name of the school) vs. VWC vs. Bridgewater vs. Roanoke & vs. E&H.
I think they are afraid to play poorly in front of me. I'll make every effort to be there Wed. nite. I can't have Jacketlawyer walking out of Fleet with a smile on his face !!!!!

Good luck this weekend to all that play !!!!!

'Nova, Woods is from Northeast Guilford.  Do you know of his HS career?

HSCfan

Well, tigerfanalso, now we know the key to a Tiger victory - your presence! Why have you been holding out on us for half the season?? ;)

We saw how well the Tigers played against Guilford at home in front of a packed house. If it wasn't for a 7 minute scoring drought in the second half, the guys may have pulled out the upset. Hopefully that same energy is radiating through the gym next Wednesday and can once again elevate H-SC's play against the team that I believe is the best in the league.

I haven't seen Woods-Morrow play, but I do remember seeing his name in the local paper.  Remember, Northeast Guilford is one of 15 public and about five private HS's in the county, so they're all jockeying for some press.  :)  With that said, the level of HS play is quite good, with most area schools 3A or 4A (the biggest).   At 6'4", he's got good size ... I think Woods-Morrow was the #2 or #3 guy for the Rams ... one of his teammates, Seth Hawkins, is probably an ACC-caliber player.  Woods-Morrow's box line was probably 8-14 points while Hawkins was hitting 30 ... I think NEGHS was either 2nd or 3rd in the conference last season.  :)  I'm not surprised he's doing well at Randolph!

He obviously needs to transfer to Guilford, to be closer to home.

GO JACKETS!!!!!

Best of luck to both teams for a great game!

Woods-Morrow looked really good when he played in Ashland last month.  He definitely led his team in many ways that day.  Jessee also had a very good game in Ashland.  Knowing their stats and having seen each of them play, we think they're both very deserving of FOY.

I was looking forward to seeing Woods-Morrow play when the Wildcats visit Guilford on the 21st, but I'll have to miss the game ... only the 2nd time this season at home.  From what I can tell, both players deserve serious FOY consideration.  Meanwhile, I promised to get my mother to Brevard College to watch my nephew's Senior Day game vs. Tusculum ... but honestly, I would be going even if she hadn't asked.   :)

Good luck to the Quakers today at Lynchburg ... I'll be listening!

We've talked about POY and FOY ... what about COY?

To me, the coaches at VWC, LC, HSC, W&L, E&H, and BC are out.  VWC has greatly underperformed based on preseason expectation, LC's string of losing seasons continues, HSC and E&H have been flat (or up and down), W&L was promising (but the 5-game skid did them in) and it appears BC will finish downward without Oblitey (and also have too many overall losses).

Contenders:

RMC - Rhoades.  It's been a good season for the Yellow Jackets.   Perhaps a few more losses than were originally expected, but I don't count Richmond and they may still win the ODAC regular season.
GC - Palombo.  Expected to finish 3rd, the Quakers could win the title and have wins over RMC, RoC and twice over VWC.  I think he's a serious contender, especially if they finish the deal.
EMU - Dean.  The Royals have overachieved.  If they can finish in the top 4, he may have a great shot.
RoC - Moir.  The Maroons started great, but a late-season swoon may kill Moir's chances.
RaC - Nunley.  A couple of ODAC wins and a good chance for another.  The new guy is building a program.

What does everyone else think?

I would love to see Coach Dean get it.  As a coach you always want your team to over achieve and isn't that exactly what has happened at EMU?
