I would agree with you if Don Done goes 11-5 in the ODAC. THat would mean he would have beat EMU twice and should get the nod over Coach Dean.  However, if he loses 1 of his next two games, than I don't think he deserves it.  BC had some talent coming back for him and that reason they were voted 6th and not a little better than that, was because he was a new coach coming into a program and everyone wasn't sure how the first year would go, even with a talented team.

Hey if you all consider being in number 5 spot at 8-6 instead of number 8 spot at 7-9 overachievement so be it! That not what I consider overachievement. Is it a better season than last year? Yes. It also shows that Coach Dean's hard work may start to pay off. But COY, I think not.

Well, there was a long squawk before the season about whether EMU could achieve mediocrity.  They're certainly well past that now.

I think Tom Palumbo deserves a feather in his cap for nurturing a really good Guilford team, after losing three starters who played tons of minutes, and a talented sixth man who played plenty.  I expected this to be a rebuilding year for Guilford, yet the team is playing great ball.

I don't think Palumbo even wears a cap, and a feather might look silly, so just give him the COY.

sludge, after yesterday's 19-point performance versus Lynchburg, Clay Henson's got 980 points for his Guilford career.  With a great outing against E&H or a couple of good games to end the regular season, he would seem a lock to join the 1000-point club very soon.  Nice!

I could see EMU improving last season ... and they've accomplished a lot this year.  Kudos!

Tom Palombo deserves serious consideration for COY ... I think he'll be in the top two or three when the coaches vote.  He lost key players (Strong, Kimbrough, Belkoski and Edmond), yet the Quakers are 19-4, 12-2.  In fact, GC still has a chance to be the #1 seed going into the ODAC tournament.  The preseason poll tabbed them 3rd and I personally expected them to be in the 18-7, 11-5 range.  It's been a great season!

Coach Palumbo would bea good choice. Coach Rhoades if RMC wins out should get it.

Well, attended the RMC-VWC games yesterday...2nd Half was very impressive by Macon on both ends of the floor.  However, the defense by the Jackets in the 1st Half was pretty bad.  54% (15-28) from the field in the 1st half for VWC versus 32% (7-22) from the field in the 2nd half for VWC.  Big difference in the outcome of the game was the Macon's defense in the 2nd half.  If Macon plays defense the last game of the regular season and in the ODAC Tournament then they will be extremely hard to beat.

On the COY...There appears to be a number of solid candidates, but I'm partial to Rhoades, especially if they finish out #1 in the ODAC (or tied for #1, but loose the tie-breaker).  This team has played a difficult schedule out-of-conference, done well in the ODAC (especially if they can win out Wednesday night), and the team and Rhoades have overcome tremendous obstacles since the beginning of the season.

I'm not sure who may have faltered this week to free up a spot, but I think Guilford and Randolph-Macon both deserve to be in the d3hoops.com Top 25 when the results come out late tomorrow night.

That's great to hear.  Knowing Clay, he'll hit 1000 sooner rather than later.   Cool that he's a junior!
(Along with Bonner and Sanborn).

Good case for Coach Rhodes also.

If you've never run across it, on the Top 25 Talk board (multi-region topics) Darryl Nester has been posting "How They Fared", listing results since the last poll for all teams receiving votes.  The tally for this past week should be up in another hour or so - very convenient!

A rough rule of thumb would be that a team ranked 20 or lower with one loss, or 15 or lower with two losses, will probably drop out.  (A common exception would be if the team they lost to was ranked higher - after all, they were 'supposed to' lose that game!)

Couldn't agree more,Hasa.......we've come a few notches up with our defense in the last week....and getting that VWC monkey off our back mentally should really help the Jackets....will we be in the poll this week? Don't think so...but the Quakers are a lock....it also remains to be seen if we can go into the hostile environment at Fleet and all the emotion that goes into that game and come out a winner-it's the last home game for the Tigers( they finish @ VWC next sat)and that place will be ELECTRIC for them....we have to get past that early game emotional surge to survive.....we'll see wed....

Thanks, Mr. Ypsi.  I knew where to look, but was too busy to take the time.  :)

It looks as though six of the "bottom" eleven (15-25) in the Top 25 lost a game this week:

15. Mass-Dartmouth was 1-1 ... lost to #25 Rhode Island College.
16. F&M went 2-0.
17. Elmhurst was 1-1 ... lost to higher ranked Wheaton.
18. John Carroll was 2-0.
19. St. Norbert was 1-1 ... lost to unranked Lawrence.
20. Augustana was 1-1 ... lost to unranked North Central.
21. Carnegie Mellon was 1-1 ... lost to unranked Brandeis.
22. DePauw was 0-1 ... lost to #23 Centre.
23. Centre was 1-0 ... beat # 22 DePauw.
24. Guilford was 2-0.
25. Rhode Island College was 3-0.

With seven losses, Augustana may be vulnerable ... and yes, I know they play in the very tough CCIW.  DePauw may also be vulnerable.

The Yellow Jackets definitely have a significant obstacle in their way at HSC's Fleet on Wednesday.  There was a 1600-person white-out for Guilford, so there's no telling what they'll have for RMC!

Guilford's game at E&H is cause for concern as well.  The Wasps can throw bunches of baskets at you ... sometimes they win that battle and sometimes they don't.  And, as I'm sure you know, that can be a tiring road trip on a Wednesday night.  Coach Palombo, however, seems to have the Quakers focused on not only one game at a time, but one practice at a time.  The Quakers know what's at stake and realize they'll probably have to win out to be the #1 seed.  We'll all know more after Wednesday night!

badcall!

It is good to see all the positive talk about COY and there are several who are vey worthy. All the aforementioned, RMC, GC, RC, BC & EMU have had outstanding years.  I posted earlier that I felt that Page Moir should be COY and I continue to state my case for Coach Moir, although much consideration must be given to Tom Palumbo at GC.  Both of these guys graduated a great deal of talent from the previous year and each has had outstanding seasons.    Also, Coach Rhoades at RMC has played possibly the toughtest schedule of anyone in the ODAC  Clearly, the three schools that have benefited most from the unbalanced schedule are RC, EMU and BC.  Coach Dean and Coach Burgess have done outstanding jobs with their teams, however, Coach Burgess inheirited probably the most experienced team in the league along with two 1,000 point scorers and Coach Dean in reality played a very soft schedule at EMU.  Speaking of BC-EMU, the big one is coming up on Wednesday for my area teams.  Records will show that EMU has not won at BC in their last 15 attempts.  Look for BC to win in a close one.  Go Royals, Go Eagles.

I can't make it Wed. nite (my oldest has a HS game). I'm putting you in charge of making sure the Tigers play their best game of the year. Win, lose or draw; if they play their best, thats all we can ask.

Go Tigers
