I can't make it Wed. nite (my oldest has a HS game). I'm putting you in charge of making sure the Tigers play their best game of the year. Win, lose or draw; if they play their best, thats all we can ask.

That's a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, but I'll gladly carry the load! A win over R-MC would not only be satisfying to Tiger faithful, but also would give H-SC a chance at that coveted No. 6 seed!

As far as my two cents for COY, I would say that it is a two horse race between Rhoades and Palombo. It is tough to be picked tops in your league in the regular season and actually follow through in a conference like the ODAC (plus for Rhoades), but I have been very surprised at how well Guilford has maintained their high level of play throughout the season (plus for Palombo). I say flip a coin!

I think that Moir is out of it. The Maroons played a soft schedule to open the year and I think once teams in the ODAC figured out that Peery is the key, Roanoke has struggled to get wins. Even when you look at their results, they pulled out some very close games early in the year, and being a Tiger fan, I know what happens if you happen to fall on the other end of those close games early in the year. Roanoke could have easily been in H-SC's shoes.

There truly is nothing like ODAC basketball. Although the regular season title is down to two teams, there are some interesting battles all the way through the standings. I'm excited that my Tigers still have a chance at that No. 6 seed. I don't see much difference between finishing 7 or 8 (have to play R-MC or Guilford in the first round), but a No. 6 seed is HUGE since Roanoke, EMU, and BC have all either shown inconsistency as of late or have potential match up issues in the first round.

A win over VWC Saturday would give the Tigers the No. 7 seed regardless of what they do against Macon, but if H-SC can manage to win out and W&L continues to falter by losing two of its last three, H-SC would get that No. 6 seed.

HSCfan, is that the actual tournament schedule, as you allude to 8 teams making the tourney?  I thought that there were play-in games for lower seeds this year?

If RMC wins the regular season Rhoades should win COY. As previously stated, his team has played the most difficult schedule of any other ODAC team and played it very well; all of this accomplished under very difficult circumstances. He has shown true leadership and I think he is deserving of the award. My two cents  coming from a HSC fan!!!!

78rmc,
My understanding is all teams are in the tourney.

Thanks, agreed.  HSCfan was discussing an 8 team format, similar to prior years.

Here's the tourney site:

Looks like play-in games for seeds 6-11.  Seed #5 is the important slot to fight for to avoid the play-in.

78rmc

Interesting, but the women, with the same number of teams, maintains the 8 team format.

IMHO, the men should have stayed at eight teams  . I feel the regular season has to count for something!

I totally agree, if you haven't earned it during a 16 game regular season, why should you be given a mulligan?

donho

Now wait a minute 78, I like to get my 18 mulligans on sundays! I guess I should say I NEED my 18 mulligans on Sundays.

donho

Hey Jackets, lets start good and strong come Wednesday night and take care of business for 40 minutes. Go Jackets!!

True ... as 78rmc and others have posted.  If I understand it correctly, #1-#5 get a bye straight to Salem.   In the Tuesday night play-in games, #6 hosts # 11, #7 hosts #10 and #8 hosts # 9.  The winners of these 3 games join #1-5 in Salem, with #1 drawing the winner of #8-9, #2 drawing the winner of #7-10, # 3 drawing the winner of #6-11 and #4 meeting #5.

New d3hoops.com poll is out:

#20 Guilford 19-4  160 points
#24 Randolph-Macon 19-5  42 points

Cool!

I was assuming that seeds 6, 7, and 8 would win their "play-in" game.

Seed No. 6 is huge because you would host No. 11 and then avoid Nos. 1 and 2 in the first round in Salem!

Your logic is on the mark.  After #1 and #2, positions #3-9 are still up for grabs (although BC and Roanoke are assured a bye ... the 5th bye position is still unsettled).  Randolph and LC are locks for #10-11, but they can trade places.

Because not everyone plays the same schedule anymore, so it may be easier for some to get into the top eight than others.
