Looks like your Jackets and my Tigers MIGHT have a date up in Salem. How do you like your chances of 1) beating us in Salem and 2) beating us 3 times in the same year ? If they play, the Tigers will have nothing to lose and the reverse holds true for Macon. Could be interesting.  I'll make the ride from Richmond to see it. Don't be too nervous because I think Macon will win the game because of Short being a senior and because the team will want to win for Coach Rhoades. Both reasons enough to put it all on the line.
Good luck to all this weekend and safe travels to those going to Salem.

TFA, the match-up always thrills and horrifies at the same time!  Which is what makes it great! 8)

While I agree with your assessment, rmc1982 has it right.  We don't win at Fleet if Short doesn't make those clutch buckets.  I hope the Jackets remember the loss last year, and execute accordingly. ;D

Good luck to all the teams as well, and have a safe trip to and from Salem everyone!

RMC1982

You guys are just nervous nellies !!!!!!

VWC is not going to beat RMC, although I think it will be a competitive game. Just sit back, let Short & Coach Rhoades do what they do and enjoy the ride. I'm telling you, your PG is going to be the difference in this tourney.
He'll need help obviously, but he will be the difference.

Nervous nellies? U gotta be kiddin'!!! With our tournament record the last couple of years?.....We haven't exactly walked thru, now have we??We are ABSOLUTELY correct to be nervous-that and the fact that we haven't,except for the games since the last VWC game(and that wasn't pretty @ the end, neither!)exactly played our tails off!!We wil have to play 40 minutes every game to win it,and although Justin Short may be the MVP of the league he HAS TO have help in order for us to win it....

RMC1982

You are exactly right and this is the year for all of that to change.
I only wish RMC was not in the same bracket with HSC because I would offer a little wager that RMC will make the finals otherwise. I can't pull for that to happen given the bracket pairings BUT I strongly think that it will.

Next year will be different. With King & Jesse returning coupled with the 7 footer and 6'9'' power forward HSC has coming in next year, 2010 will diffently be the "year of the Tiger".

Good luck and enjoy !!!!!

Congratulations to all, but special thanks to Guilford's Coach Palombo, Clay Henson, Tyler Sanborn and Rhett Bonner.  It's been a special season!

Honorable Mention:

Tim Clarke, Randolph
Steven Echols, Lynchburg
Robert Hudson, Emory and Henry
Quinton McDuffie, VWC
Parrish Walker, Roanoke
Zac White, W&L

I ask that all posters allow me a brief moment for a respectful rant :)

I know it doesn't make too much difference, but I really felt that Ben Jessee deserved at least an honorable mention nod. When you look at the teams, the 10th and 11th place teams in the ODAC get two guys on the all-conference squads (Rand: Woods-Morrow, Clarke; LC: Wooldridge, Echols) and the 7th place team gets three guys (Dixon, Fields, McDuffie).

I can fully agree with Woods-Morrow (tremendous player), Wooldridge, Fields and McDuffie (who I really thought would get ROY). I don't even know who Timothy Clarke is and Echols is a good player, but their teams finished 10th and 11th in the league!

I thought Jessee, who averaged 13.8 points-per-game in conference, was more of a headache for opposing coaches and a key to H-SC getting the No. 6 seed. I think that he is certainly one of the top 19 players in the league (why the ODAC does six on the first, seven on the second and six on the honorable mention I don't know! If the Tigers could have put seven guys on the court this year we may have finished a bit better ;D)

It's tough because everyone on the list has obviously accomplished a lot during the season. I think what gets me is when I look at the amount of players on each team, it bothers me that Jessee isn't up there with a Tim Clarke from Randolph. If there were five on each team, I would have no issue with Ben not being up there!

Anyway, time for some basketball action! Good luck to all teams today!

Congrats to Justin Short and Coach Palombo! Short was deserving, as was Palombo, who continues to be successful with all the class in the world...his teams reflect his personality and win with grace!

HSCFan,

Its time for Jessee to go out and show why he should have been on the All-ODAC team.  It is now, put-up or shut-up time!

You're absolutely right!  I hope Coach Palombo will stay at Guilford for a long time.  With all due respect to posters who believe next year is their team's year, the Quakers return Bonner, Henson and Sanborn.  Palombo seems to have a knack for unearthing talent and giving them a few years to develop with more proven upperclassmen (think Strong and Sanborn).  I did not think this year's team would tie for the ODAC title, but they proved me wrong!  Go Quakers!

Congrats to all on the season honors.  We agree that Ben Jessee's performance qualified him for honors.  The only rationale we can even think of is that the 2 Randolph players carried their team the entire season, putting up those good stats without a lot of help from teammates; not a justification in our minds, but possibly an explanation since H-SC's team is inarguably deeper and more roundly talented.

We're very proud of the R-MC students who received honors and we are so proud of Mike Rhoades, who could have justifiably tanked during this season but held tough,  focusing on his team and their mission.  GO JACKETS!!! If we don't win the title this season, let it not be for lack of vision, commitment and teamwork.

Wishing good luck to all for great games this weekend.

ODACHOOPS

6 members on first team, 7 members on second team and another 6 on honorable mention?? That is entirely too many people garnishing all-conference recognition.  I am taking nothing away from those who received the award and especially not taking anything away from those who deservingly received the awards but giving out that many all conference awards just makes it really "watered down" in my opinion.  There are not 19 people who jump out to me on paper or watching live whose numbers and contribution deserve all conference recognition.  Again taking nothing away from those who received the award, but when teams that finished 10th and 11th in the league with a combined 5 wins are making up 4 of the top 19 players in the league, that is where the line has to be drawn.

Ex: I know that Macedo is a good coach who has more then proven that over the past few years, but according to these all-conference awards he has 3 of the top 19 players in the league (over half his starting 5 are all conference players) and he finished 7-9 and 7th in the league.  The ODAC needs to stop trying to make what was once a very prestigious award one that is now geared towards making every school happy and trying to equally represent all 11 teams.
