Go Quakes!!  Go Marlins!!
Thanks, jacketlawyer ... I was rooting for RMC as well!

Guilford and Averett both travel to Centre.

Do you think the NCAA is trying to save money?  Undefeated and #1 ranked St. Thomas did NOT get a bye.

Yeah, they did.  When 39 teams out of 60 get an automatic qualifier, all the conference tournament upsets (including RMC's) really hurt.  Certainly, VWC being in eliminated a spot for the Yellow Jackets.  I'm no expert on how the selection committee thinks, but I believe it ultimately boiled down to the 71-66 loss at Guilford on Jan. 31.  For what it's worth, I think RMC was more deserving than many other teams, but the selection criteria may have handcuffed the committee.

Someone please explain to me what just happened????

I was up in Marlinville for the HSC game 9 days ago and the Marlins did not look good.  In fact, I contemplated posting my thoughts on the game (not good) and writing this year off as a rebuilding year where youngsters were getting some quality minutes.  For the first year since I left VWC (over a decade ago) I didnt even follow the ODAC tourney!  When I checked the scores last night I couldnt believe what I saw...VWC - ODAC Champs???

My only concern is that the new kids will think its OK to just turn it on at the end of the season.  The team I saw vs. HSC was a middle tier ODAC school at best.  Did VWC really turn it around or would those of you, in the know, attribute the win to something else?

Also...Is there a better "big game" coach in the ODAC than Macedo...I dont see how.

Good to see you, Oldfish, and congrats to your Marlins. I hope they go deep in the tournament as well as the Quakes.  Time to circle the wagons and root for the ODAC teams. 8)  I'm still a little bent from R-M's exit from the ODAC tournament but it's time to man-up and move on.

I didn't see the R-M/VWC game but you guys handled us if the score is any indication.

Wow. What a tournament. First time in ODAC history that the #7 and #8 seeds meet in a final. Both teams played well throughout and deserved to be there with their play over the weekend. Some brief thoughts and then I will fade into the sunset...

1) The unbalanced ODAC schedule: I don't think we ended up with true "seeds" in this tournament, which made for some great first round matchups, but also may have doomed a team or two (R-MC).

Is VWC really a No. 7 seed? Probably not, but because they finished that way, R-MC drew them in the first round - tough 2/7 game.

Are Bridgewater and EMU true No. 4 and No. 5 seeds? Maybe not, and I know that EMU, after playing a relatively easy schedule, probably was not thrilled to play its rival in the first round.

With an unbalanced schedule, you don't really get true "seeds," which is a positive because you get some great match ups early in the tournament, but in the end can hurt the teams that finish up top, most notably in this tournament R-MC and Roanoke who drew tough first round draws as high seeds.

2) Did the unbalanced regular season schedule keep R-MC and Guilford out of the tourney?

While I think one should get in, who's to say that if R-MC had four extra conference games (as would be the case if the ODAC played everyone twice; would equal 20 ODAC games) they don't go 23-3? They would not have scheduled Richmond and perhaps the teams they played up north.

Would Guilford had gone 23-3? Not having to travel to Texas-Dallas or whereever they went, but having the chance to get four more wins in conference? Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but the way those two teams were rolling during the conference season, its hard not to think that they may have been locks for an at-large with 22 or 23 wins, maybe even 24 with a balanced schedule of 20 league games.

All in all, the new schedule made for a great tournament, and I cannot complain about the excitement, but I couldn't help but wonder...I know that H-SC lost to Randolph during the regular season (as did W&L and Lynchburg), but what happens if H-SC gets two more wins by playing LC and Randolph one more time instead of just once, and maybe finish No. 5 or No. 4? I use H-SC only because I know more about their schedule, but that could have really changed the way that the tournament went (or maybe it wouldn't have mattered). Just a thought!

I don't get it.You either have a balanced schedule like the women or you have play in games. I prefer the former but the latter is very fair. Personally I thought RMC was the best team in the ODAC. However if you can't beat VW, then so be it. It doesn't really matter which round you face them. I realize the naysayers would say RMC makes the dance if they lose to VW in the finals. Fine, maybe then Guilford wouldn't go dancing and we'd be having a similar conversation.

I can't think of any coach who would prefer a play-in game to stay in game shape. IMO W&L looked gassed at the end of the final. Missing FT's at he end of game is usually dead legs.

Hats off to VW & Guilford I hope thay do the ODAC proud!
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Hopefully Guilford will do well in the "BIG DANCE", hope you represent the ODAC well. As for RMC you had a nice season. One that started with to much hype coming your way, which helped lead to a dissapointing ending.
Did I miss mentioning VWC, nope. 06 National Champs and 07 runners-up, regardless you can have them.

Jeremybozz

Good luck to Guilford and VWC in the NCAA's. Had the RMC vs Richmond game been the exhibition and the RMC vs George Mason game been a regular season game then I think RMC would have gotten in.
