Congrats to the Guilford Quakers, now the lone ODAC team in the dance for driving a stake thru the heart of Transylvania. Any Quaker fans that were there what did you see involving the controversial call at the end of regulation that sent Trans. to the line to send it to ot?

Well, good luck tomorrow against Averett. Averett vs Guilford should be an entertaining game. Always fun to see ODAC vs USA South.

As for the vwc game i listened to the broadcast...sounded like a well called and played game by both teams. I think the ultimate downfall of vwc was missed free throws and wideners full court man pressure i think wore the marlins out some. I think Charles Jones had 27/28 pts. But vwc doesn't have anything to be ashamed of. I think they grew up a lot in the last week and hopefully they can take that experience of at least getting a little taste of march basketball into next season.

So go get 'em Guilford. If some how some way they get a regional game at ragan brown i will try to be there, with me being about an hour 1/2  away in raleigh.

Quakers hang on, 71-67, over Transylvania in OT.  GC moves to 22-5 and TU drops to 21-6.

Great win for Averett tonight, 76-71, over Centre.  The Cougars have now won 12 in a row and move to 21-8.

There will be a very small crowd at Centre tomorrow night with both local teams out.  Just like St. Mary's and Widener knocking out GC and AU in Greensboro last year.

Go Quakes!

I wasn't there, but I was watching the video feed.  First, GC should've had a 4-point lead ... missing a couple of inside shots on the other end.  Anyway, TU had it out of bounds on their end with 0.7 seconds to go ... 58-56 GC.  GC put Justin Stafford, a 6'9" freshman, to guard the inbounds play in front of the TU bench.  The TU guard throws an arcing rainbow over Stafford's head to a spot near the baseline on the far side of the basket to their tallest player, Verax.  He never had possession, but the ref said Henson fouled him as everyone was going for the ball ... hard to say on a one-camera video feed.  Anyway, Verax was clutch ... sinking both with 0.0 on the clock and everyone off the line.  Luckily for Guilford, the Quakers hit a basket and 11 FT's to win 71-67 in OT.

Congratulations  Guilford on a great win tonight!!!! May you be as successful tomorrow and next week and the week after...... Congratulations also to the Marlins on a great effort.  I think inexperience was the key factor in the loss but the Marlins were in the game up until the last minute and the game could have gone either way.   Both teams deserve  our praise.  Go Guilford!!!!!

And the Quakers (22-5) win it.  They'll go on to play Averett (21-9) tomorrow evening!

Either the ODAC or the USA South will have a team playing in the  Sweet Sixteen next weekend.
Hope it's the ODAC!  By the way, I think Averett's record is actually a little better than you cite ... they're 21-8 with a 12-game winning streak.

VWC had a nice run and a good effort. Congrats to Guilford and now beat Averett.

Quakesball

Saw the guilford game last night. Congrats to the quakers! Transylvania had three guys that had NBA range. Guilford applied enough pressure to keep contain them. Guilford was able to pound the ball inside to sanborn and neville, especially in the second half. Transylvania had a decent crowd, which were able to light up the gym when Trans converted from deep.

The call at the end of regulation definately was a foul, after listening to the discussion from NCAA officials and the coaches, the right call was made. Rhett Bonner came up big in overtime, silencing the Trans crowd with an immediate drive and three point play after Guilford won the tip.

Big game tonight against Averett. Last night Averett was able overcome a great Centre crowd. The keys to the game will definately be containing Rumley and Brown, who carried the torch for Averett.

I saw the Guilford at Averett game in November.  Guilford dominated that game.  The game was not as close as the score.  However, Averett is on a role with 12 straight wins now.  Guilford has decided advantage in the post.  It should come down to which team can execute their offense the most consistently.  Too bad the game is in KY.

I agree.  GC's Henson shot well at AU in late November ... others seem to be leading the charge of late.  AU's Rumley (Kernersville, NC Glenn HS) is having a terrrific year.  If tonight's game was in either Danville, VA or Greensboro, NC, we'd have 1500 fans easy.

The Marlins had a chance to beat Widener last night.... but the Pride simply made more plays down the stretch than the Marlins did.  The Marlins jumped out to a 28-17 lead in the first half but Charles Jones banked in a three at the buzzer at halftime to cut the lead to 4 at halftime. In the 2nd half, Widener was able to close the gap and pulled away from VWC in the final 3 minutes of the game. Charles Jones had 28 for Widener while Stephen Fields bad 20 and Donald Vaughn had 15 and 10 rebs. for the Marlins.

Guilford to the sweet sixteen.... beats Averett 91-81

and for those interested, Salem State beat Widener (who beat VWC) 69-67 to advance to the next round.

sludge

If I heard that right, Guilford had both Sanborn and Neville with double-doubles.  TC Anderson was big off the bench when we really needed him.

Wow!  Mighty good for a rebuilding year.

Five Quakers in double figures:  Bonner 27, Henson 23, Sanborn 19/14, Anderson 12 and Neville 10/10.  Rumley was hot with 29 for AU ... Averett had a great season!  Quaker sixth man Martin Stephenson was ill and not available tonight, so Anderson was huge off the bench.  Great job Quakers!

GC improves to 23-5 and AU falls to 21-9.

Congrats to Guilford. Job well done.
