Any readers here who are even thinking they might want to attend the Final Four should enter the City of Salem's contest: Free lodging, free tickets, admission to team banquet and VIP passes:

This will probably get some notice outside the ODAC board. :o

I've only seen John Carroll play once. They were very well organized and talented. They were also the dirtiest team I've seen in the past 5 years & the coach did nothing to rein them in. I'm interested to learn what others have experienced with JCU and whether or not my 1 time view was an aberration.

What do you mean by dirty, baselinejam?  I remember their coach and remember that he was very intense and jumped all over his players if they made a mistake and thought it was a little harsh, but Bobby Knight did the same thing.  I just chalked that up to coaching style.

Yeah, I agree Brian. The JCU team that I saw in Fleet this season simply played hard, played physical, and played fast. Their coach was certainly the most intense person in the gym, but I thought that their players played the game the right way.

I enjoyed watching the Blue Streaks' big men work the paint and crash the glass and their guards get into the lane and pitch to open teammates on the three-point arc. Their offense truly was a well-oiled machine and their players were eager to make the extra pass to get the ball in the hands of an open teammate.

John Carroll's website said they sold out their ticket allotment pretty quickly yesterday ... and they're going to put unsold tickets allocated to other schools on sale at 3 pm today.  Not sure how many tickets Capital sold, but I'd expect Guilford and UT-Dallas to be less than a hundred each.  I actually hope the games are sold out ... Guilford, for one, seems to thrive on that atmosphere.

Speaking of Coach Knight, he's back in the news for using a little profanity when he called in to Mike and Mike on ESPN ... seems he thought he was off the air ... oops!

Old joke:

Q.  Do you know why Bob Knight would be a good furniture salesman?
A.  Because if you buy a sofa, he'll throw in a chair for free!

Two is more than the zero we had last year, Hasanova. Can't do everything at once.

Hey Pat... just a thought.  In Cleveland, the local sports station, (pretty much invented for the Cleveland Indians) has been broadcasting a ton of OAC games for delayed broadcast.  It's apparently been rather successful, over the last few years.

Do you have any idea whether there's communication between the OAC/NCAA/Sportstime Ohio about getting the rights to broadcast NCAA games?  Seems crazy that STO would want to broadcast regular season games, but not be interested in the playoffs.  (They didn't cover the OAC playoffs either.)

Just wondering if the red tape is prohibative, or if it's just a case of the right people not talking ahead of time.

Pat Coleman

I don't know about the red tape. I actually think this is something JCU is already talking about, but I have not had a chance to look at their site any time recently to see if it's been announced or if there are any details.

Looks like there'll be a video feed at least for the Friday night games.

Nice.

According to JCU's website, all tickets for Friday night's games in Ohio are sold out.  At tip-off of the 2nd game, officials will make a quick determination of available seats and sell a few more on a first-come, first-serve basis.  I guess this is based on the belief that some Capital and/or UT-D fans will be too disappointed to stay or will need to start their trip home.

Saturday night tickets will go on sale as soon as both Friday games are over.

Regardless of what Guilford thinks or reads about John Carroll, the league JCU is  in is know for tough, physical play.  Should be interesting to see how the refs handle this one.  Get ready to be black and blue after this encounter.

This is what I was alluding to.

I'll give you that playing against JCU can be infuriating at times, but I'd hesitate to call them dirty.  They play at a very high speed, especially this most recent group of students.  In the OAC, the teams are pretty much used to it, but when you face an out of conference opponent, things can get ugly simply because they need to speed up their game more than they're used to.  Collisions happen and people get frustrated, and leave the game calling JCU a dirty team.

I've been watching them for over 12 years, and can't recall ever seeing a flagrant foul call for a cheap shot, or a technical for a fighting.  (I've seen a lot of games, so I may be missing one or two, but one or two in 12 years is hardly dirty.)

Full disclosure, baselinejam saw an average JCU team (they finished 12-14) smoke Washington & Lee by 29 a couple years back and apparently still has a problem with it.  I remember him bringing this up back then.

jcu_fan-

I've seen a couple flagrant fouls against JCU, but no more than your average team.  JCU is definitely physical, dirty...not at all.
