Good luck to the Quakers tomorrow night - hope you can wrestle the giant to the ground!

Me too!  I think David packed a slingshot.

C'mon now, Hasa. This is Guilford's year. The walnut and bronze will rest in Ragan-Brown :)

jww, I trust you're right ... but Washington U. is a formidable first step.  If the "walnut and bronze" makes its way to Ragan Brown, I will be very pleased.  :)

My question: no sane person expects Sanborn to be the second-coming of Strong, but does he have the makings of a dominant center?  Now that he is The Man on the inside, is he more likely to blossom, or wilt receiving the attention previously given to Ben?

On the other hand, maybe Sanborn IS the second-coming of Strong! :D

Not sure he has established quite the dominance (yet?), but even Ben couldn't lead them to the Final Four.

Congratulations on a great season.  I suspect Wash U will be the end of the dream, but I'll root for the Quakers.

I will start by saying I am obviously biased as a Guilford Alum....but I think Sanborn will blossom.  He actually already has.  Leading his team to the final four with some more than impressive games.  There is no more need to question him.  He has already proven himself and IS a dominant center.  Even if he comes out tomorrow with a sub par game (which I don't think he will), he has shown he is one of the top big men in the nation. While his numbers are not as strong as Strong's, he gets significantly less touches.  This team is not a one many show (I am not saying the previous Guilford team was, they had a very strong team with Snipes, Kimbrough, Belkoski, and Edmonds). But this team is probably more well balanced.   Tyler deserves the credit he has been given recently, and has had an amazing history as an initial secondary big man, and now the MAN inside.  Good luck Guilford tomorrow.

Just to bring up a counter-point... it might be said that as well as Sanborn has played, he isn't the one who has lead Guilford to the Final Four. Rather... Bonner may be that guy!

I think that Guilford has shown that they have all of the tools to counter the various styles of play that any team can throw at them.

Transy (midwestern), Averett (guard heavy), JCU (up-tempo with hockey style lines of attack), UTD (aggressive defense with fast guards and adequate "big men")...I cannot think of any style of play that they have not defeated.

Respectfully, how might Wash U or RSNJ or F&M be different?  Thanks for the discussion?

Bonner has certainly been key.  He drives the lane and can either finish the play or pass to the open man.  He actually has a higher 3-point percentage than Henson and ... put him on the line, especially late in the game, at your peril.  He wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line ... either to make a shot or go to the stripe.  His boxscore lines are full of 20 point games with 10 of 10 or 11 of 12 FT stats!

The Guilford-Wash U game I am expecting will go to the wire. Each team has a propensity to yo-yo a bit in big games, and this one could easily be an OT affair if each team competes at a high level. If one is hot and the other is cold than you might see a more one-sided affair; I would be surprised to see that kind of scenario play out. Does this have an appearance of a home game atmosphere for the Quakers?

pb3 - good point. Yes, I think Guilford may be a little bit more comfortable in the Salem Center.

Wash U has played in this building a few times as well, don't forget.

Being the closest school to Salem and being an ODAC member will help Guilford's crowd, but Washington U. gave free tickets, hotels and transportation to any student willing to make the trip!
