Does the ODAC set the league schedule ? If so, what needs to be done to get this addressed ? I don't know of any other rivalry game that is played w/o the student body actually being on campus. It does not frustrate me, but the players deserve a better environment for that game than what they are going to get and it should be changed ASAP.

Football can't get here quick enough. At least we know the HSC vs. RMC football game will be played while the students are on campus.

Bridgewater's "tentative" schedule:
www.bridgewater.edu/Athletics/AthleticTeams/BasketballM/ScheduleAndResults
The Eagles will face Coastal Carolina and Coach Cliff Ellis (the former Clemson and Auburn coach who is 29th in wins all time in Divisiion I) on December 12.
Thanks for the update.  Some schools haven't posted their schedules yet, so this helps put pieces in the puzzle.

Hopefully, "Susaquehanna" in BC's schedule is also just the "tentative" spelling of "Susquehanna."  :)

Tigerfanalso and Brian Hamilton--

This is so stupid...And I am sure it is thanks to the league office.  I am so exhausted by the league office and their backwards thinking.  This is only the beginning of my "issues" with them. The scheduling drives me absolute crazy.  And yes...Let's take probably the most well attended game during regular season basketball in the ODAC and schedule it when students aren't on the campus.  Genius.  Recipe for success.

TFA,
Sorry for taking so long to respond.  I am fairly (95%) certain that the league sets the schedule.  Over the years, I have noticed that their are always certain similar scenarios within the schedule.  This obviously changed a little last year since it was the first year of the unbalanced scheduled.  For example, HSC usually plays VWC in December and then again near the end of the season with Home and Away teams being switched from one year to the next.  The respective schools may be given some input, but I think most decisions are made by the league.  There have been lots of discussions about (and suggestions about improvements to) scheduling over the years (right Steely), but little has been done.  Since the league does not receive any money from home games ( I assume, since HSC only charges for the Macon game), they probably are not overly concerned about when games are played for attendance reasons.  They (I believe) are more concerned about the distance teams have to travel, classtime missed, and ease of scheduling.  These are legitimate concerns because of the D3 philosophy.  I hope that my lack of knowledge has helped.  Maybe Steelyglen or JELoesel have more information that they could provide on this topic.

They(the league) have been trying their darnedest for years to take both the fans and the students out of the game ??? When #44 was playing for VWC back in the day, we had Saturday/Sunday games that were a lot of fun for the fans. Now, they grind it to E&H, as example, play the game and turn around and come home. Families and fans are not going to make that trip out and back in one day/night. Fun basketball weekends would be Roanoke/W&L or E&H and Guilford. For some reason - BUDGET I'm guessing - they have taken the enjoyment right out of the contests. Sad. And, I've said nothing about playing in empty gyms while students aren't there. Just not fun.  ??? ???

As I outlined in my mega post about the asymmetrical scheduling that the ODAC adopted last year, the major revamping of the schedule will take place every two years.  The conference schedule for 2009-10 is a mirror image of last year's schedule.  The dates for games are on the same day of the week during the same week in the same month; the difference is a flip on who is the home team and who is the visitor.

I suggest sending any suggestions about scheduling to the conference headquarters right before they consider revamping for the next two-year cycle.  (I don't know when that is but I'll try to find out.)  Comments now will be forgotten/lost by reevaluation time.

Below is a link to information about Kwasi Amponsah, one of Roanoke's top recruits this year.  He's a graduate of Gar-Field.  From his credentials, I'd expect him to get playing time early in the year.

I'm sure Page Moir will miss assistant coach Robby Pridgen, who is moving on the assist at D-I Robert Morris this year.  Robby did a great job recruiting and working on the sidelines.  Thanks from this fan,  Robby, and good luck.

Good luck also to Jon Coffman, who played for W&L in the mid-90s and assisted Bob Johnson at E&H.  Jon has moved from Stetson to Colgate.  He will fill the assistant slot vacated by Nathan Davis when he moved to Randolph Macon.

Thanks for the comments/observations !!!!

I wonder if Williams vs. Amherst is played while the students are on break ???? How about Hope vs. Calvin ??? Do you think that is played in early January before the students return ???

I'm not going to contact the ODAC because it is really none of my business, but wouldn't you think a little common sense could be used.

HSC vs. RMC should play each other the last game of each rotation. So end of January(there abouts) and the last regular season game of the year for each team. Any other significant rivalry should be handled accordingly. Just my opinion !!!!

I hope every one enjoys the balance of their summer. Football will be here soon !!!!!!!!!!

Another 6'10" center at Guilford, as Josh Best of North Johnston HS says he'll play for the Quakers.  Even better, his 6'9" Dad played at ECU.  Academically solid also with a 4.0 and plans to major in Math.  Nice!

Wow - what is your secret? :o  Every other d3 school feels lucky to get a guy that tall (who can walk without stumbling) maybe once every decade or two. ;)

Not sure ... other than players wanting to play for a team that's coming off three successful years.  Strong and others got it rolling, but Sanborn's made great strides and will be a senior this season.  Stafford is also a tall post player who's a rising sophomore.  With Best, the Quakers will have three players either 6'9" or 6'10".  I'm excited about the season - with these three big men, other solid reserves and returning guards Henson and Bonner.

Were there others before (or beside) Ben?

In d3 terms for Guilford, I thought he was Genesis. ;)

rmc1982

Any of you RMC fans heard anything about Nathan Davis' 1st recruiting class?I haven't heard much-some of the may be 1/2 Mike Rhoades'.....just curious....
"We're completely surrounded-Excellent!...Now we can attack in any direction!'....Chesty Puller, USMC

donho

"82" I would not think that Coach Davis had much to do with getting anyone this year. I think anyone coming in will be the result of Coach Byers' hard work .  Hope things work out well for RMC.

Snipes was certainly a significant player for Guilford as he and Strong shared the court for three years, but I'd have to say Strong created the turning point in the D3 era (since 1991).
