I really liked Bob Johnson's attitude.  I think he was an excellent coach of young men.  I also enjoyed sweating in his gym (as a spectator).

I think the "EMU rising" story is based on some very good incoming freshmen and a D1 transfer, together with existing team.  The existing team does have some juniors and seniors.  I think it is hard for freshmen to come in and be impact players;  even freshmen that are very good later on are often not huge as freshmen.

I think EMU could have a good year and mess some teams up, but it probably won't threaten the ODAC title.

Have I ever mentioned how often I'm wrong when predicting the future?

I'm wrong almost 100% of the time with my predictions so I'll take your comments in that vain, but for what it is worth, I agree with your comments.

Now, go watch some college football. We can continue this conversation at a later date.

I know everyone's always interested in incoming freshmen - here's a good look at Guilford's 6'10" Josh Best.  I saw him on the sidelines at Guilford's football scrimmage with NNA - he's a big guy.  According to this article, he's a great student too.

Tell Mr. Best that if he becomes unhappy with his playing time; to calll me.
I'm sure HSC can also offer him a very attractive package based on his academics and that Coach Vick will work him into the rotation, no problem.

I want what is "best" for Mr. Best and I think a degree from HSC is a really good start in that direction, and by the way, we'll take that freshman point guard as well. Since Washington DC is into redistribution of everything, the ODAC might as well redistribute b'ball talent !!!!!!

You know I'm kidding. Good luck to the Quakers this weekend. HSC will have its hands full with NCW.

Yeah, I'll be sure to tell him to put you on speed dial - not!  :)  Six foot ten, his Dad played DI ball and he had a 4.0 in HS ... is that a coach's dream or what?

An HSC degree is certainly a plus, but I think Mr. Best will be just fine at Guilford.  I have a double in Math & Econ there and the faculty's great.

I've heard of five freshmen enrolled at Guilford this fall:  Josh Best, Travis Tracy, Josh Pittman, Daniel Waln and Tatum Lemly.  I expect Best, Waln and Lemly to rotate in as back-ups, but I hear that Tracy and Pittman (a 2000+ point HS scorer) may have enough talent to vie for a starter spot.  As one person told me about Tracy, he can "flat out play."  Taking a "swag", I think you might see Seniors Henson, Bonner and Sanborn, Junior Martin Stephenson and possibly Tracy as starters.

Now, on to football - good luck to the Tigers vs NCWC and, for that matter, all the ODAC teams this weekend!  Go Quakers!  Twenty-one hours and change 'til kick-off!

What happened to the Quakers this weekend ????

Sounds like they either had a really bad first game, or they are headed for a really long season. I know you have no insight and only time will answer the question, but the ODAC did not fare too well this past weekend and in order to save face, we need to pick it up this week. It appears HSC and Emory played well but everybody else had a difficult time. I know teams get better each week or either suffer the entire season, lets hope CU, GC, RMC & W&L pick it up and HSC & Emory continue with winning out of conference games.

Another couple of set backs and you're going to really be hoping basketball season comes sooner than later and we can't have that. Life in the ODAC is going to be tough come basketball season when GC unleases all of that talent on tghe remainder of the ODAC. I'm hoping football last a long, long time !!!!!!

Another loss in the ODAC family.  One of the ODAC founders from Lynchburg College, Bill Shellenberger, has died.

Sorry for the delay, tfa - no internet access since Sunday morning.  Quakers obviously have a new offensive look sans Vogelbach, but moved the ball effectively.  Three 2nd half turnovers did them in and led to both Greensboro scores - once when the Quakers should have taken a 14-0 lead.  Sigh.  Even at the end, Guilford was driving for the winning score and committed a costly penalty when they should have had the ball at the 1 - moved it back to the 11 instead.

Defense looks better, but offense won't put up the numbers of the past four years.  The next 3 to 4 games will tell how long the leason will be.  :)   Basketball does look to be promising - on paper, the Quakers will probably be favored to win all their regular season DIII games, but I learned a long time ago not to count those chickens 'til they hatch!  Being on top makes you everyone's BIG game!  :)

Senior Hasa - What a bold statement and so "unhasa like:"

"THE QUAKERS WILL PROBABLY BE FAVORED TO WIN ALL THEIR REGUALR SEASON DIII GAMES..."

That sounds like Quaker trash talkin' to me!!!!!!!!!! ;D

Hey, jww - good to see you online.  Yeah, that's about as strong as it gets from a Quaker.  lol  Perhaps I should clarify:  I don't think they'll win them all, but taken one game at a time (and barring injuries), I think they'll be the pre-game favorite in each game.  Do you disagree?  :)

jdubyadubya

Hasa - I agree that GC will win a lot of games. Don't know about the ODAC Championship but I bet Palumbo will figure that out too this year!
