That's a heck of a good idea Hasa. But, I'd call it the "Mid Coastal Divsion" which would mean it would be a stretch for Guilford!!! ;D

I didn't want to be as pedestrian as "East" and "West", but nothing seemed to fit.  :)  There were a significant number of Revolutionary and Civil War battles in the area - maybe the "Volley" Division!  :)

Regardless of what it's called, it's still a good idea. I had an e-mail from President Greer at VWC who told me that he's getting a crick in his neck looking up at some of the new basketball talent for the Marlins. And, President Greer is about 6'4."
That means VWC will have some lightning fast guards and some trees to bang inside. Sounds like fun ;D

The "Valley" division could just have one bus that runs up and down I-81 to pick up and drop off whichever teams were at the six gyms.  :)  I always fear the fish ... sounds as though they have another quality team this season!

Hasa - It's weird because no one knows anything about them yet. There haven't been the usual media releases and general hoopla. For some reason Coach Macedo has played this class real close to his chest. Don't know why exactly. The bus idea is good....you could call it the "Mainline Division" and the "Rather Circuitous Division."  ;D

Now I'm hearing that the Gennies have 2  big freshman -I know they have at least  1 frosh in the 6'11" range. If I can confirm the other at 6'10" then things would be looking up at W&L as well ;D

baseline - W&L just might have the tallest trees in the ODAC this year :D

HSC85

Hasa,

Great idea on the divisions.  I agree that the women only schools would be better off in a conference where they could be more competitive unless they have aspirations to change like Randolph did.

HSC85, Hampden-Sydney's an all-male school - and they aren't going anywhere - so even a 12-school conference would only leave 11 on the women's side.  To make it work, there would have to be one all-female school that competes in a majority of women's sports.  Right now, in my opinion, HU comes closer to fitting the bill than SBC.  They win occasionally, but it can't be fun for the athletes at these schools to regularly get trounced in a lot of their league games.

If, and it's a big if, SU were ever admitted for all sports, I'd see it happening at the same time CUA left for an all-sports affiliation.  The ODAC football scheduling "problem" could be alleviated if another existing school adopted football (8 teams).  I don't think EMU is interested in football for a variety of reasons, so, to me, that leaves LC, Roanoke and Randolph.  Personally, I think Roanoke is the most viable immediate option, but I've heard it's been discussed at LC.

Think about this for football with teams paired for end-of-season rivalry game:

GC/E&H; SU/BC; HSC/RMC; Roanoke/W&L

In basketball and other sports (men):

Valley Division:  E&H, W&L, Roanoke, BC, EMU, SU (I-81 and the Shenandoah)
Battle Division:  GC, LC, Randolph, HSC, RMC, VWC (Guilford Courthouse, Appomattox, Yorktown, Richmond, Petersburg, etc)

I like it!  Maybe also the Mainline and the Loop.  :)

More bad news.  And the assistant does know something about big men (so does the head)

My confirmation source doesn't agree with my 1st source about a 2nd large man sighting. I'll have to make a call.

Hasa,

I have also heard the Roanoke is having some discussions about a football option.  When my daughter was being recruited we asked the folks at Lynchburg about any possibility of adding football and we were told several times there is no interest at this time.  Now that may have been just stating the currently policy.  However I agree that other schools may be closer than Lynchburg.

HSC85, I believe the Maroons have the endowment and would have the alumni support to do it.  It's only been a few seasons since they added baseball, so football would seem to be a natural progression.  I haven't been on the RC campus in years, so I don't know about facilities, but I bet they could play in Salem (Stagg Bowl venue).  Lots of Lutheran colleges have football, so I know of no philosophical reason for not starting a team.  I think it would be good for Roanoke and good for the ODAC.
