All - I have heard from Scottie Too Hottie that Lynchburg has discussed the football idea and has nixed it for the foreseeable future. :o

I really enjoy all of you most of the time. I just wonder if all this football should be on another thread. 10 days to practice - how about some hoops?

You asked, so here's some preseason basketball from The Sporting News:

Please note, this is just "a" poll, not "the" poll.  :)

Hey any PR is good PR & this is nice - congrats to the Quakes.

I've learned that the large freshmen are both taller than anyone  that the Gennies have had  the past 3 seasons. I'm also hearing nice things about the rest of the class. Now I'm starting to get fired up.

Guilford's 2009-10 schedule:

Some interesting non-conference match-ups this season!

Only Grove City is non-region...
True.  To clarify, it may not be Grove City.  Guilford faces Ohio Wesleyan in the first round of the tournament with the winner facing host Marietta or Grove City the next night, but Marietta is out-of-region as well.

Of the other seven non-nonference games, we have customary match-ups with Methodist, Greensboro (away),  Averett, and NC Wesleyan (away) plus Maryville, Rust (at Sewanee) and Huntingdon (at Sewanee).  We've probably played Maryville before, but I don't remember games with the Bearcats and the Hawks.

Another interesting note, the Greensboro game is back at the Coliseum.  It was a wild affair at Greensboro's Hanes Gym two years ago (prominently featured on the front page of d3hoops.com) and was, frankly, more than the gym and security could handle.  I'm not sure what this means for Guilford's turn next year.

Marietta (OH) and Guilford (VA) are in Administrative Region #3.

Grove City (PA) is in administrative region #2.

Thanks, Ralph.  Right you are.  I guess it's just hard to think of Ohio teams and NC teams in the same region.

Guilford is ranked #2 preseason in the Sporting News poll.   Bad ol' Wash U is #1.

Hey, sludge ... good to see you online!  The Sporting News poll was posted a few lines up in this forum on Oct. 6, but it (Washington U) "Bears" repeating!  Hope to see you at some games this season and keep me posted on Ben's play.

Hah, thanks Hasanova.  You-all are ahead of the game as usual.

We're just trying to keep up with you!  By the way, I went to the Quaker Club breakfast last Friday morning ...  Coach Palombo and the team got a hearty round of applause when the #2 preseason ranking was announced.  This is probably Guilford's highest basketball ranking in any poll since the 1973 NAIA National Champions.

I exchanged e-mails recently with Coach Macedo who admitted that the Marlins are still very young and inexperienced. He said the "ODAC will be brutal" this year and is looking forward to the challenge. I hope to be at the Batten Center on December 5 for the battle with the Quakers. Let the season and the games begin :)

I agree - the ODAC will be a tough conference this season.  The VWC/GC game at the Batten Center will be good match-up, especially so early in the season.  I've already bought tickets for another event in Winston-Salem that day, but you can bet my Blackberry will be monitoring the game!
