78rmc, It depends on which Carlson is back. The one proven "pain in the A$$ Carlson" or a new and matured CARLSON. I will go so far as to say that if it is the old Carlson than the Jackets are in trouble!!

Totally, totally agree!  I've heard it's the new and improved Carlson and I'm sure he would not be back if he weren't.  Couple his abilities and a positive attitude, he could be dangerously good.  Let's only hope!

78rmc

As I've heard, he's worked very hard to right the ship and has honestly earned another chance and I'm glad for him.

badcall!

Here is my ODAC predicted order of finish for the regular season taking into consideration the unbalanced league schedule and some teams having an easier go of it than others with the schedule:
1.  Guilford-should be a lock, they also had a great recruiting year
2.  EMU-lots of talent-chemistry will be a key
3.  VWC-solid recruiting year with some talented kids returning
4.  RMC-Good nucleus with a fresh approach on the sideline will be good in the long run for this bunch
5.  HSC-with Vick at the helm-trust me these guys will be back at the top regularly sooner than later
6.  RC-enough talent to possibly finish a spot or two higher
7.  Actually lost quite a bit of production, still have Trawick, very poor recruiting year
8.  W&L-interested to see these big guys that were mentioned earlier
9.  Randolph-Coach Nunally does one heck of a job with this program
10.  E&H-hope to see some improvement out of the wasps
11.  LC-no woolridge but a D1 transfer and some other good recruits-could surprise and move up

Regardless, I'm sure I will still be way off as we all know what can happen in the ODAC!

A lot of love for EMU in these predictions.  I hear a lot of hype for EMU year in and year out only to see little on the court.  But, I wish them well and hope the hype is real for their sake!

badcall!

Should be BC here at the #7 spot
7.  Actually lost quite a bit of production, still have Trawick, very poor recruiting year

Did Carlson and Coach Rhoades have problems with one another, making the coaching change one of the reasons for his return, or would he have been back regardless?

Also, quote from badcall: "9. Randolph-Coach Nunally does one heck of a job with this program."

Thought I saw a ghost for a minute, but the Randolph coach spells his name Nunley.

WOW, once again EMU at #2.  This is a program that has only won about 34% of games in last 10 years and had their first winning season since 2000 last year!  Am I missing something here?  And you've got VWC, HSC and RMC with strong returning squads from proven programs below EMU?  What gives?

Carlson was returning regardless.

I have to agree.  I think almost everyone sees EMU has greatly improved their program the past few seasons, but I don't predict them at #2 yet either.  If you finish second in the eleven-team ODAC, I think you're talking 14-2 or 13-3 ... and it's just not going to happen this season!  Ten and 6 or 11-5 ... that I might believe, but that's good for sole possesion or ties in 4th through 6th.  I see VWC or RMC in the number two spot.

Good, I hope so.  Got to see him play a few times, and he's got talent.

But the real issue is Coach Davis this season  Saw him play while he was at R-M, and I know where he's been as an assistant coach.  He's got some big shoes to fill.  Any opinions?

FYI - the d3hoops preseason poll is out - link's on the front page.  No mystery here, but Washington U. is the unanimous #1 pick.  In a bit of a surprise (at least to me!), however, John Carroll edged Guilford for the #2 spot.  Both teams essentially return intact and GC topped the Blue Streaks on JCU's home court in last spring's Sweet 16, but I realize polling is not an exact science.  :)  RMC came in at 19th and VWC received votes.  All in all, a good showing for the ODAC!

ODACHOOPS

I too agree that Guilford probably should have been #2 having beaten J.C. head-to-head last year. However that didn't surprise me nearly as much as RMC being #18. You graduate hands down your best player (the POY in the conference) AND you lose your head coach? I just don't see them being the 18th best team in the country. However with that said, D3 just doesn't have enough resources or media outlets to gather up enough up-to-date info to put together an accurate Top 25. I think as you get down to the lower part of the Top 25, you are getting rankings based more on school name and traditional success (both of which RMC has) as opposed to how good they really are at this current time. After all, in D3 all you know is which players teams lost – no one is positive as to how good incoming players that schools bring in really are.
