I think I heard that Greensboro College had budget problems and let their basketball coach go.  If so, that may have something to do with the way that Guilford game went.  But still.

Shenandoah is traditionally a decent team, so way to go EMU.  And VWC did a thorough job on Averett.

I think there'll be no easy time for anyone in the ODAC this year.

Hey, Sludge.  Good to hear from you!  As far as I know, Bryan Galuski's still the HC at Greensboro.  In fact, his name was cited in news reports of the game.  It is true, however, that Greensboro's had some 2009 budget cuts and lay-offs, including the AD.  It's also true that Galuski was a top 10 finalist for a coaching job at DII West Florida during the off-season.  Whether or not any of this had a significant impact on this year's Pride team, your guess is as good as mine.  Hope to see you at some games and hear a progress report on Ben.

OK, so Greensboro kept the coach and let the AD go.  At least the priorities are straight!  ;)  So that wasn't the issue with that slow start.  The Guilford defense is coming together, maybe.

Ben Strong is doing fine.  After spending soo much time riding the pine last year at Maccabi Haifa, he's been playing good minutes this year and just had a bit of a breakout game, with 18 - 8 - 2 and was named MVP for the game.  So, he has traction.

It's great to hear Ben had such a strong game  - those are terrific numbers!  Hope to see you for some games this season - since Caleb's now at W&L, it's a shame the only meeting with the Generals is in Lexington.

Looking forward to watching EMU vs Averett and Bridgewater vs Wesley this evening. Should be some great hoops action at Bridgewater.

EMU broke 100 against Averett.  I don't remember EMU scoring 100 points before.  Maybe they did that against E&H in the up-tempo days?  Anyway, sounds like EMU is playing well.

Wesley 78,Bridgewater 66 I think was the final?

EMU vs Wesley will be a barometer game for both teams.

EMU 101,Averett 81

EMU had a 30+ point lead much of the second half.
The Royals are the real deal.
BC vs Averett will also be a great matchup.

W&L took the consolation game in Cleveland from Otterbein after losing their opener to Case Western. Goetsch looks like he's coming into his own.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Averett visits Guilford Tuesday night - that'll be my first look at the Quakers in person.  I don't know what to expect from AU since Rumley's now graduated, but these two teams always go after one another.  Their geographic proximity also means fans make the trip.  If anyone's at the game, please say hello - I'll also be in the Ragsdale-Warrick Hospitality Room at halftime.  It should be a good game!

Congratulations to the Generals!  Winning nonconference games builds confidence and helps the ODAC at tournament time!  I hope W&L has a great season - just no more double-overtime tournament wins over the Quakes!

Looks like VWC finishes out the weekend with wins over Greensboro and NC Wesleyan to jump out to 3-0 start on the new season.  Fields is looking good early on, and Donald Vaughn appears to be coming into his own early in the season.

EMU Runnin Royals 46,Wesley 32 with   1:25 left in the 1st Half

After watching Averett yesterday, they are a solid team when #44 stays out of foul trouble(he fouled out) but they lost 81-66 to VWC and 101-81 to EMU.
Averett is a fairly decent offensive team but not in Guilford's league(very few teams are).
Bridgewater and Averett should be a great matchup coming up at 4 PM.
