Final:  Guilford 83, NCWC 66 in Rocky Mount, NC

Rebounding was close, with GC getting the edge 34-33, but ... Guilford was 11/19 from beyond the arc and the Bishops were an abysmal 4/24.  Overall, the Quakers were 30/58 from the floor while NCWC was 24/68.

Sanborn's line was impressive with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks in 23 minutes.  He could really have some huge games with improvement at the FT line.  Big game for Henson with 23, Bonner 17, Anderson 12 and rookie Pittman with 11.  Meanwhile, Drake 12, Arrington 12 and Stokes 10 led the Bishops.

GCQ improves to 4-0, all against the USASAC, while NCWC falls to 2-6.  Huge game for Guilford on Saturday as they travel to Virginia Wesleyan.   These two teams go after each other with a passion!

LC is a good team. Don't take them lightly especially at home. They are much improved from the past. EMU didn't exactly play great. They didn't shoot well, and didn't stop Echols at all. Not to mention LC hit some 3's late to keep them in it. I can't take anything away from LC, they are a good ball club. Keep in mind they are 1-5 with 2 losses to D1 schools, and 2 others on the road  1 in OT and one by 3pts. Only other home game was against Ferrum and they won by 20... Great win by EMU on the road. 7-0 probably best start in school history!!! Go EMU

Maybe it's just the math major in me, but as of 9:15 am the poll at the top of the page has 5 items with votes of 0, 7, 5, 1 and 7, respectively .... but the total says 19.  I have, on occasion, been accused of being a ham sandwich short of a picnic, but I'm thinking 20!  I'm just saying ...  :)

The vote for "We should have stayed at 10." is amusing.

Should you have kicked Randolph out of the conference when they went co-ed?   :D

Good point, Ralph.  I just think many fans miss the full schedule where everyone played everyone else home and away.  The ODAC just wasn't willing to go from 18 to 20 league games.

The ODAC looks very strong this year from top to bottom... I hope a lot of people come out to see some great basketball these next few months.

Some people mentioned the 4 ODAC teams in the Top 25 receiving votes including GC and R-MC in the top 10.  We'll see what happens there as ODAC teams beat each other up the next few months with these great games on the way.

I just hope the committee takes a look at the quality of play within this conference when deciding who to take with the Pool C bids.  Unlike the CCIW and WIAC who have some strong conferences around them, the ODAC doesn't have many good opponents to play outside their conference within close proximity (they've dominated the USA South teams this year).  Makes you wish we were in the same region with some of the schools up north.

9 minutes to go & the Gennies were down 23. They took the lead with a bit more than a minute left & fell by 4. They showed a lot of heart to storm back the way they did.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

I haven't seen Washington & Lee fold in a game in the past 6 years, no matter the score or situation.  (Maybe VWC has, or somebody, but I sure as heck haven't).

I'm going to make a bold prediction:
Guilford will win most games in which they are 11/19 from three-point range.

Yep.  You read it here first.

I saw Clay Henson play in the Triad pro-am last summer, and he was smoking hot.  That quick release of his combined with relentless movement and some well-executed picks makes him hard to defend.

Wow, what a season so far in the ODAC.

Marlins 76, Builders 73 OT (updated)
Fields 23, Vaughn 23 and 13 boards
both teams lost big leads (fish 9pt in first half then builders lose 11-point in second)

11 days from now - rematch at Fish Tank

Hey, sludge.  Now you have three teams to follow: Guilford, W&L and Maccabi Haifa!  Can you keep up?  BTW, "suggest" to you-know-who to update his blog more often - curious minds want to know.  :)  Yeah, 11 of 19 behind the arc will win a lot of games ... hope we can keep that up.  I've seen Clay play once this year - versus Averett - looking forward to our next home game on Dec. 16 against Maryville.  Meanwhile, two very tough road games at HSC and VWC - they both make me very nervous!

Hey Nova,

I hope the Tigers can give you just cause to be nervous!  I really like what I have seen so far from the Tigers squad (especially the freshmen), but they have not played a team with the talent or size of the Quakers.  Less than a week until that game, but in the meantime we have two tourney games at Salisbury.  Hope all are well and safe travels to anyone traveling about this weekend.  Possibility of some white stuff in parts of Virginia this weekend!

Hey Brian, possibility of some white stuff in parts of NC as well.  HSC always makes me nervous and I know how Tiger fans turn out, especially for the big games.  For what it's worth, I actually think the Quakers thrive on that sort of atmosphere.  In my opinion, Guilford has three in a row that fit that category:  VWC away tomorrow, at Sydney next Wednesday and Maryville at home on the 16th.  As I'm sure Coach would say, one game at a time!

Hey Nova,

No need to worry about the crowd.  It will be very small.  It is only Fraternity night for the game.  I'm sure that none of the frat guys will turn out.  I also doubt any of the football players will turn up even though they were almost all there for the Roanoke game.  All I can say is I am glad that basketball season is finally here.  I have been going through withdrawal for about 9 months.  The only problem is that it goes by too quick.  Anyway, I think Wednesday will be a good one and would love to see a Tiger win.  I know I'll be in attendance with the family.  Maybe we will sit in the middle of the frat guys. :)

Thanks for the reassurance, Brian.  I'm sure you had "tongue firmly in cheek", so you can now relax.  I feel much better!  :)   I would expect nothing less from the Tiger fans and it's one of the reasons college basketball is my favorite!  VWC and HSC both on the road - what a way to start ODAC play!

And the frat and football boys at HSC are legendary for their politeness to the visiting team.

The immediate problem is the Fishtank, though.  Its been up-and-down there over the years, not an easy place.

H-SC 87 Ramapo of New Jersey 78 - Ramapo up 9 early and then 3 at half.  Turner King had 27 and 9 rebounds - J. Mudd had 13 good timely points - Lane Medlin back on court with good game in limited minutes. Turner now 14th leading H-SC scorer with 1466
