^ So R-MC ticks up a notch w/out even the Wooster win.  Apparently we 2 very biased Jackets fans are not the only strong believers.

With all due respect, we don't think the Jackets were lethargic at the end of the game, we think they were tired, as was Wooster.  Both teams had played the night before and they gave each other fits defensively for both halves.

We saw it as a very physical game with a whole lot of running and passing (lots of it off the mark by the Jackets) and way less shooting than we would like to see.  Jones was in early foul trouble and was bottled up tight inside all night so thank goodness the other 3-shooters were there in the clutch moments.

Happy Holidays to the tough, talented ODAC and GO JACKETS!

Yeah, while the officiating was questionable, good win RMC.  The Scots played well and was happy with the overall game.  We may see one another later on.......

Agreed, the Scots played well and often made the RMC's offense look lethargic at times.  They're a strong squad and I expect them to do well this season.  BTW, loved the bagpipes.

Yes the Pipers are a classic Wooster tradition.  My first introduction to them was waking up early one morning with them playing in the Holden Hall Quad...at 7:30am on a saturday...yikes...lol.  But certainly a tradition and they play at every sporting event!!

Guilford has also used bagpipers over the years at many (but not all) important events (such as leading in the seniors at graduation), but, sadly, the '75 alumnus who often led or did the honors solo died in an accident a few years ago.  He played while he was an undergraduate when I was there and we could hear him practicing outdoors off in the distance at some ungodly hour every morning.  :)  Wish they'd find others to continue the practice.  It makes for a stirring and memorable event!  Congratulations to Wooster for keeping it part of the college tradition.

2RMCfans, relax a little. So you along with some voters think the jackets are good! You say the players are tired!! They better not be tired!
What we have right now at RMC is a bunch of 19,20 and 21 year
olds who play basketball on a team. To this point in the season they have scored more points in 8 games then did their opposition. That equals a  nice start, but leaves along way to go.
What happens when they come back from Christmas break means alot. I they get into January and say get to like 15-2 or say 16-3 then I will be willing to say they are a good team! Just to many question marks outside of W's and L's to tell right now.

I agree, Donho.  Too early to tell, and I'd rather stumble early and finish strong.  I've seen too many R-MC teams leave in the first round of the ODAC tournament over the years after brilliant regular season play.  I personally prefer it when we're overlooked. ;)

Seems like it's a little late to fly under the radar now.

A basketball game with 'a whole lot of running and passing'?  At least you didn't mention the 'dribble drive'!  I appreciate your enthusiasm for the team, so keep it up!

Having not seen many RMC games the last few years, I simply miss the hustle, the power, the drive, the determination of a Mills, or a Bergmann, or a Walmsley.  I like the fact that the team has a lot of depth and balance, but who's that go-to guy?  Who's the guy that going to put the team on his shoulders and carry them to the tough win?

rmc6thman

I will go ahead and kick off my season of posting a little late, but in agreement with donho and the others that it's a nice start for the Jackets, and certainly something to be excited about, especially with a new coach at the helm, but nothing more at this point.  This team has some really nice pieces in place, and Coach Davis has done a great job of finding a solid 10-11 man rotation to this point, and I think they have done a good, but not great job so far.

I have only seen them play once this season, against Randolph, and that was certainly not an impressive win, as they almost let a 25 point lead go completely down the drain with a porous 2nd half D, and some extremely sloppy play down the stretch, and a lack of killer instinct to put a lesser team away.  In a very competitive ODAC this year, they will need that mentality to put some teams away.

I do believe they have some quality wins so far, and when they shoot the ball well, they have proven to be as effective as anyone so far, but it is still early.

My personal thoughts are that they need to take much better care of the ball in transition, and continue to find ways to get their big men involved to open up the perimeter play...Brandon Braxton and Danny Jones are confidence players and need to continue to play well inside for the success to continue.

As for the team being tired, I can all but assure you, they were not.  They are one of the most conditioned programs in the country, and playing back to back nights is not something that would tire them, maybe with a 6 or 7 man rotation, but that is not the case here.  I am confident that they will work out many of the kinks over the break, and come back a much sharper team after the holidays and be prepared for the tough ODAC schedule that lies ahead!

6thman, Nice post.
Ditto 6thman!....and 78RMC-I agree with you that there's not a "killer" like Jared Mills- but he's the kind of player to be in the Hall of Fame at R-MC VERY soon-A KWood, a Hellyer,a Gartland,an Axe, A Fletcher Johnson,to name a few-kids like that are few and far between.......but I do think Brandon Braxton or Danny Jones CAN take over a game like that, they just have to have some consistency doing so. January will tell the tale....we'll see what that brings...and DonHo-I think I'm gonna plan to go to the finals of the Rees Jewelers classic-as the owner is a good friend of mine-and if my kids aren't gonna go you're welcome to tag along.....Smokey Pig before the game?....;-)

The Jackets have played a tough schedule to date...not as tough as some other schools...to try to be "under the radar" does not give enough credit to the team and coaches. New Coach New Attitude.  Perhaps a "killer attitude take no prisoners" is the way to go.  Forget the past!!  RMC has what it takes...DC is the key!!

Final in Greensboro:  Guilford 82, Maryville 53

Two words:  Henson and Sanborn.  The ball went to Tyler Sanborn early (I think he scored Guilford's 1st 10 points) and then, when Maryville tried to collapse on him, it was Henson with 22 points.  Sanborn finished with a very nice 20 points and 17 rebounds.  It was obvious that Maryville, and especially Hernandez, had not faced anyone as big and strong as Tyler this season.  I think Hernandez got a little frustrated, but finished with 16 points on 6 of 16 shooting (4 of 4 at the line).  Watson added 13 for the Scots.

It was a big test for both teams as GC improves to 6-1 and MC falls to 8-2.  The Scots trailed 36-27 at the half and cut it to 42-37 early in the second, but the Quakers went on a 40-16 tear to finish the game.  Nice.

Good grief!  If Guilford is 29 points better than this Maryville team, y'all Quakers are in for another really good season!
