Buried in Sports Briefs of today's RTD:

"Randolph-Macon Head basketball coach Nathan Davis announced that senior David Carlson has left the team after a mutual agreement to part ways. Carlson has averaged 12.5 points per game this season with the Yellow Jackets."

Will be interesting to see impact on upcoming Rees Jewelers classic tourney.

Good grief!  If Guilford is 29 points better than this Maryville team, y'all Quakers are in for another really good season!
The Quakers played like a Top 5 team last night.  This game worried me coming in because Maryville had beaten a DII and was 8-1.  Sanborn's size and strength were more than I think the Scots had seen this season and the Quaker guards also shot well.  Maryville will have another good season and probably make the NCAA's, but they ran into a better team last night.  Good luck to the Scots the rest of the way!

That's a big story - his stats and role on the team are were significant!

DC was probably the most talented player on RMC...that being said you could tell there was trouble in paradise when he was not on the floor at the end of the Wooster game.  Playing time???....Not starting???....I guess he didn't buy in to the system...this will be interesting to follow.

I know he's a good player but chemistry is very important in college basketball and part of the reason for the sloppiness alot of us have spoken about is that he has seemed to force shots and go into his own world at times. He's a tremendous talent-no doubt about it- but I really didn't think he fit with the chemistry of this team. Will it hurt them?......most certainly they will miss the talent but  the jury is still out on whether or not it will hurt the team.....it may in fact help them.......

Not to mince words, FanJacket, but probably not.  We covered DC on this board two years ago or so.  The behavior does not appear to have changed.  Of course, all we can do is speculate, but after this amount of time, it's not too difficult to connect the dots. Unfortunately.

Jacketlawyer, I have seen the behaviour with other kids/other programs.  Most of the time unless there is a significant "change" the behavior stays the same.  This seems to be the case.  Davis took a risk initially, and I suppose has "cut bait".

RMC1982, You are absolutely correct regarding chemistry.  It seemed to be working initially...but I guess as the season progressed the honeymoon wore off and the "I" factor came into play with DC.

Good luck to DC...Better luck to RMC.  Hope the leadership of team pulls everyone together...that will be critical.

Interesting to me that this makes the paper at all. How did they find out about it or why did the coach "announce" it? If a prominent Wash U player here in Saint Louis were to leave the team it would receive no notice at all.

Do not agree with DC being the most talented player at RMC. I will take J. Brown any day ! It is now time for B. Braxton and J. Brown to step up and take charge of this team. They both can have very positive influence on the outcome of any game, and it is about time they do it!

I don't know DC personally, but I know "of" him quite a bit, through several intimate sources within the school and program, and it has long been known that this could and probably would happen, based on the past...he has been great and times, and a complete virus at times...a total frontrunner that plays hard when he is playing well and getting touches, but disappears and hurts the team when things don't go his way.

Coach Rhoades had gave him more than one shot, and he let him down several times by not holding up his end of the bargain, and I think maybe Coach Davis thought with some work and a change in regime, maybe DC could come back for a successful senior year and what would have been a great story, but it didn't work out.

Best of luck to him, but I think this may eventually become an "addition by subtraction" move for the Jackets and Coach Davis.
