Sorry to see RMC as #1 at this point in the season.  It's nothing more than a big target on their back and a huge motivational gift for the upcoming Tigers!

Glad to see the Jackets doing well, but I hope they keep level heads and approach each game as if they are the underdogs!

78rmc, Here is how I see it. They now have no place to go but  down. How they handle the number one label is yet to be seen. They have some nice W's and some not so nice W's. I think that the coach's will do their  best to keep them going in the right direction. Now the players have to do their part in keeping things in perspective. It is only Jan. 5th. So on Jan. 5th after eleven games we are 11-0 and sitting at the top of the hill. Good for us, BUT we (rmc) have along way to go.
I am actually starting to believe because I have yet to see them play together for 20 minutes let alone a full game, which leaves alot of room for improvement.

Agreed, the HSC game will tell us how the Jackets handle the pressure of the ranking.  HSC would love to knock us from the #1 spot.  If the Jackets are 5-0 or 4-1 over the next five games, count me as a believer, too.

I couldnt agree more78rmc and donho.......this just made EVERYBODY circle us on their schedule....the best thing that could have happened to the Quakers is that they lost a game in december.......it deflected how good they are away from them and onto us....I still think they're the best team in the ODAC-top to bottom....at least right now......talent and experience-wise.....

Many of us here share your sorrow.  I hope you find comfort by Jan. 30th, if not sooner.

RMC will only host Guilford this year, but that won't help.  Guilford gets lucky in the RMC gym.

Ain't that the truth!! Wasn't it a Guilford player that made the full court heave after a missed R-MC free throw with less than 1 second on the clock that swished through the net and turned a one or two point R-MC lead into a one or two point loss? That was maybe four or five years ago.

I'm 100% sure it was a Guilford player.  Sophomore Jordan Snipes uncorked a full-court baseball-type throw off a missed FT.  It was in Crenshaw Gym (Jan. '05) at the end of the first OT and, with 0.6 seconds to go, an RMC player stepped to the line in a tie game.  He hit the first to put the Yellow Jackets up 89-88 and, I think, missed the second on purpose.  Snipes' "shot" hit nothing but net and propelled the Quakers to a 91-89 win.  The video's still on YouTube and it's interesting to watch freshman and future National POY Ben Strong duck to get out of the way of the shot!  :)  Then the madness begins!

^ We remember it well... think the GC player was named Snipes & it may have been 2005.  It made the ESPN top 10 plays of the day and the yahoo sports home page.  We saw it happen, and have watched it a thousand times and still find it hard to believe.  It was an incredible shot for sure.

I'm sure Hasanova can give us all the scoop on that buzzer shot!

GO JACKETS!

Yeah, I was typing at the same time you were!  :)  I've watched it about a thousand times also and, incredibly, Snipes' shot goes in every time.  Equally hard to believe for Snipes, he hit another shot as a Senior in '07 at the end of regulation versus Lincoln U. in VWC's gym to send the game to OT in the Sweet Sixteen.  It was something like 99-96 LU when he hit a half-court heave to tie it.  The Quakers went on to win 129-128 in 3 OT's.  I think Dave McHugh had the call on that game.  Imagine having two shots like that in your career.

Mr. Ypsi

Am I recalling correctly that Snipes in fact recreated his shot on the first try for a national news crew?

Pat Coleman

It was a local news crew, but yes, he hit a shot on command on camera.

All this talk about regrettably being ranked number 1 makes me think of ESPNs recent interview with Nick Saban.  He says something along the lines of:  "Whenever anyone tells you you are the favorite, you have to think someone  is trying to set me up."  I thought that was great.

Pat's absolutely right.  I can't remember which station, but it was one of the local Triad (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point) network affliates while they were interviewing him in Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse.
