Seatfiller and DeansList,
agree with you both, well put.
The one thing I dont see happening is Trawick in the running for POY at all. He had a great game Sat. and is a good player, but they don't and won't have the record for him to be in contention. As Hasanova said in the past it will go to someone from GC, EMU, VWC, RMC. Those are the best 4 teams with the best chance to have a POY.

Just thought I would see what everyone is thinking about COY to this point in the season. I know we are only half way through the ODAC schedule but who do you think would win the award if the season ended today?

My vote goes to Coach Dean of EMU. The extra time, effort, and money he has to put in because of not having any full time assistants, lack of financial aid (endowment at EMU is minimal), very little in the recruiting budget, etc. it is amazing the team he has assembled! Honestly, I knew this team would be good this year, but they have been better than what people expected so far this year!

I didn't even know about the handicaps that Coach Dean had to work under, but as an outsider, simply the break from EMU history tells me Coach Dean ought to be the unanimous choice for COY.  What an incredible year! :o

I figured that someone would get flat-out Trawicked this year.  Dominick T. has had a number of "career nights" in his career so far, and he's probably not done yet.  You really can't let him get comfortable out there;  once he gets going it is just shocking what shots will drop for him.  I've seen it.

In spite of that, the whole Bridgewater team must have played really well to beat a team like this year's EMU.

I think Trawick has heavy competition for POY and won't get that call.  Among players whose games I know well, Tyler Sanborn (GC) would get a nod over Dom, in spite of not playing so many minutes.  He is amazingly efficient.  Clay Henson once again demonstrated why he gets consideration, in the recent game against... Bridgewater.

Trawick is one of my least favorite guys to play against, so that's worth something though...

And yeah, EMU's coach is sure as heck lead contender this year for COY.  Year ain't over.

Big time players make big time plays in big time games.

The ODAC regular season championship - and possibly the POY - may boil down to just two games:  GC at RMC on Jan. 30 and EMU at GC on Feb. 10.

Just my opinion, but I think VWC's already shot themselves in the fin with losses at GC and EMU (head-to-head losses to the two teams that still only have one ODAC loss each).

Unless EMU does an absolute fold the last month, I think it's overwhelmingly Coach Dean for COY.

See, I keep thinking the same way until my conscience kicks in and tells me, "wait a second... this is Player of the Year, not Most Valuable Player.  I would hope that, based on the wording, the award is going to the best individual player in the ODAC and not the player most valuable to the success of his team.

Do I think Trawick will take it at the end?  The possibility is there, especially if he continues scoring at the pace he's set this month.

You may be right when it comes to VWC not being able to pass Guilford since they've already played each other twice, but I think the Marlins actually have the most room for growth in the standings right now.  They have a road game at EMU and a home game vs. R-MC still on the schedule.  EMU only gets Guilford and R-MC once each, and the same thing applies for Guilford who only plays R-MC once this year.  While that may make it easier for the three other teams to traverse their way to Salem, I take the approach that it keeps VWC in control of its own destiny at the moment.

Poll's out:  2, 7, 9 and 11 - GC, VWC, RMC and EMU, respectively.  The best I've ever seen the ODAC - nice!

Nova - agree with you on COY. POY is up in the air....several quality hoopsters vying for that coveted honor. Word from the beach is that Quantrell Simmmons is done for the year with a knee. Fields will have to step up big time if the Fish are going to continue their momentum toward the ODAC championship and the NCAA tournament.

Kirby Dean hands down Coach of the Year.....If the POY is given to the person who is the most valuable to their team hand down Dom Trawick their is no way you can argue against that.....Big players step up in big games George Johnson against his rival the one team he talked about how much he couldnt wait to play  1-23 in the last two games including an 0-10 game in his final game against the Eagles last year and a 1-13 performance Sat night.  But its nothing that the Eagles are doing???? What is it then?????  Maybe he should stop predicting wins and start doing his talking on the floor.

"their (sic) is no way you can argue against that"

Well, yes there is.

no... I would hope Player of the Year reflects the best overall player in the conference.  If they wanted the player most valuable to his team, then they'd call it the ODAC Most Valuable Player Award.

That said, Trawick has to have an inside edge at this point especially after dropping 29 on Guilford and 36 on EMU (I think he had 25 against VWC as well).

You can still make a strong case for Henson, Fields, Sanborn, and Phillips getting the award as well...

Trawick had a great game versus Guilford (I was there), but his box was actually 22 points in 36 minutes (9/20, 4/12 on threes and 0/2 FTs).  In the same game, Henson was 11/18 overall, 6/12 on threes and 0/1 FTs for 28 points in 34 minutes.  On that one day, Henson won the individual battle and his team won the game.

Hope the Jackets take care of business with W+L. Don't get caught looking ahead.
Looking at other games for wednesday I am thinking Lynchburg could give VWC some problems.

No argument from me, jww.  I think Coach Dean is on the very short list for COY and I have about 5-6 guys in mind that could be POY.  These last few weeks are key for making sure stats stay up (or improve!) - especially in big games that decide who's highly seeded in both the ODAC and NCAA tournaments.

I'm sorry to hear about Quantrell Simmons - it's always painful to see a young athlete have to miss key portions of the season, especially when his team's in the championship hunt.  Here's wishing Quantrell a speedy and compete recovery!
