EMU wins it at Roanoke College, 123-73.  When is the last time that an ODAC team lost by 50 points at home?
When's the last time someone in the ODAC scored 120 in a game against a D3 opponent who didn't run the Grinnell style of basketball?

Has an ODAC team ever before lost by 50 points on their own court, or would this be the record?  I've checked some online stats for Lynchburg College and, as bad as they were for 7 seasons (2002-2009), the Hornets' biggest loss AT HOME was by only 46 points (to Guilford on 12/1/07).

I can't find any more information on this game and I am not sure if it was home or away, but in the 1993-94 season, EMC lost to Mulenburg College by 62 points.  EMC was 2-22 that year and 0-18 in the ODAC.  EMU has come a long way under Coach Dean.

That game was Nov. 19, 1993 in the Scotty Wood Tournament @ Muhlenberg. The EMU-Muhlenberg game set the record for the most lopsided victory in the history of both Muhlenberg College and the Centennial Conference and it's a record that still stands after 16 years!

That 62-point loss by EMU may in fact be the most lopsided loss in the history of the ODAC.

However, I've found a loss on home court that's even larger than Roanoke's 50-point loss on Saturday:  EMU lost on their home court to Hampden-Sydney by 55 points on February 3, 2003 ....  The score was HSC 88, EMU 33.

EMU has picked up their defense while maintaining there offense and led RC by a score of 94-54 with over 10 minutes left in the second.  EMU can flat out score!
On the other hand, does Roanoke even try to play defense? 117 points with 4:05 left - that is embarrassing.

More insightful analysis from Scottie2Hottie...I'm sure Coach Moir had no idea that his team was "under performing"... let me know when he sends you an apology for offending you.

donho

Talk about embarrassing, LC has not had a winning season in like 25 years !

Most lopsided victory ever by an ODAC team?  Here are some lopsided ones:

72 points - EMU 111, Christendom 39 - 1994/95
67 points - EMU 105, Washington Bible 38 - 01/29/09
65 points - HSC 117, Mass College Liberal Arts 52 - 12/30/02
62 points - HSC 115, Denison 53 - 11/21/98
56 points - HSC 111, Wesley 55 - 11/22/02
55 points - HSC 88, EMU 33 - 2/3/03 @ EMU
53 points - EMU 97, Penn State-Brandywine, 44
52 points - HSC 98, Guilford 46 - 2/2/00 @ HSC
50 points - EMU 123, Roanoke 73 - 2/13/10 @ Roanoke
50 points - HSC 91, John Jay 41 - 1/2/99
48 points - HSC 95, Arcadia 47 - 12/29/03
47 points - HSC 112, Guilford 65 - 1/7/99 @ HSC
46 points - Guilford over Lynchburg - 12/1/07

Neither Washington Bible nor Christendom is a DIII institution, so the HSC 65-point victory over Mass College Liberal Arts is the largest margin I could find versus a DIII college, but my research is in no way exhaustive.

I think EMU beat one of the bible schools last year by like 70 points.

Where will the 4 ODAC teams end up in this coming weeks top 25 ? I think they will all end up between 4 and 14.

To piggy-back doho's post: Can there be any justification for EMU being ranked lower than Guilford or Virginia Wesleyan?

Guilford has 2 losses. EMU has 3 (one to So. Virginia who I think is NAIA?)
EMU has a loss to an under .500 Bridgewater team(my alma mater is BC).
Then again, EMU won by 27 at Ragan Brown and beat Roanoke on the road by 50.

Don't have the time to go through RMC, VWC, or W&L.

donho

Algernon, not a bad top 15. However, now that R-MC has split with VWC and they have similiar records  It is difficult for me to rank VWC ahead of R-MC for this one reason, non conference games. Only two (2) teams that VWC has beaten have a winning record. R-MC has beaten six (6) non-conference teams with winning records. In my mind that counts for something. So I would have to put R-MC above VWC say at numbers 10-11 or 11-12.

FortyFour

Donho,

I can't see any case to be made for ranking RMC ahead of VWC.  RMC has more losses, VWC has beaten Guilford, and the two teams split with each other.  Further, setting aside the three losses each has to the other ODAC contenders, RMC has a L to W&L.

As to the schedule point, RMC may have a tougher OOC schedule, but VWC's in-conference schedule is much tougher (already faced RMC and Guilford twice, and facing the Royals for the second time tomorrow night; RMC only played the Quakers at home this year).  I don't see a case for putting RMC ahead of VWC at this stage of the season.

In my 40 years of watching Guilford basketball, Roanoke Bible College fielded the worst teams I've ever seen "competing" at the collegiate level.  Other than getting three practically guaranteed wins, I'm still not sure why we scheduled them (or they agree to play us again in 2003!).  It wasn't RBC's fault, but they were basically a church league rec team ... and this was in the era when Guilford was just beginning to flirt with .500 ball.  A DIII Top Ten team that really ran and pressed the issue could have put up 160+ and won by over a hundred.
