bigrips77, with even being in the middle of the disruptive fans from vwc you had me on your side with your post until you pulled the "kick em while their down" Give me a break.vwc lost two games in a row and we are to feel sorry for them. I think not! They are the last team I would want representing the ODAC, because they have no class !!

But overall vw fans have no class...
Hey wait a minute, go easy!  I was only a VWC fan for one game, and I'm over it.  I promise, it won't happen again.

I thought you was gonna say, VW is the last crew you'd want representing the ODAC, because they  done it so much recently...

Unless it's a head-to-head match-up with the Quakers, I'll root for any ODAC team that makes the NCAA tournament!

You may have MANY opportunities this year!

I totally agree with your position - I feel the same way about IWU and the CCIW.

here we go again...beating up on VWC, its fans, and even the president. So what else is new! yj424, sludge, come on...you have more class than that.

donho:  For one thing, I wasn't in the middle of the "disruption" but was at the game.  Secondly, I didn't say anything about you or anyone having to feel sorry for VWC.  I was merely pointing out a textbook "pot/kettle" scenario provided by yj424 that usually becomes the case when one challenges the 'class' or lack thereof of a team and/or its fans.  Why couldn't this guy have brought it up after their first meeting in Ashland or the day after R-MC beat them at Batten?  I'm not saying the criticism was or wasn't justified... that's for y'all to decide.

Furthermore, saying a team or its fans have "no class" is just a stretch and is hypocritical.  I've been around the ODAC both regular season and postseason, and just about every team in the conference has been guilty of unsportsmanlike actions from time to time, not just VWC.  To put it all on VWC because they carry themsleves differently from other ODAC teams or because they are so set apart from the rest of the league geographically or whatever is just ridiculous.

The one thing I've enjoyed about this board is that the focus is primarily on basketball and many of the folks who contribute do so in a civil manner... why not keep it that way and save the pissing contests.

This article covering the Quakers and some of their local players ran into today's Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel.  Winston-Salem, for those of you unfamiliar with the area, is one of the three cities (Greensboro and High Point are the other two) that make up the Piedmont Triad metro area.

seems like you guys have gotten some much-deserved press in Greensboro... It isn't easy to get a word in down in NC with all the hoops goin on but it seems like the word's getting out about those Quakers.

Thanks, bigrips77.  It is tough when you're in the middle of the Big Four plus all of the Southern Conference, MEAC and Big South teams.  Fortunately, Guilford has one of the best SID's in Dave Walters - he does a great job for the Quakers.  It also doesn't hurt when a lot of your players are local and the team has four straight 20+ win seasons!

By the way, it's Senior night when the Quakers host E&H today at 7 pm.  I hope a lot of folks will turn out for the four great seniors on this squad.  Go Quakers!

I think anyone who's attended enough games at all levels - from kindergartners to the pros -  have seen poor behavior by players, coaches, fans and parents at every venue.   Everyone has a bad day now and then and deserves a second chance - it's when this type of unacceptable behavior becomes systemic and unremorseful that there's a real problem.

It's simply not fair to make blanket statements that "all the fans/players/coaches at School XYZ behave badly."  As a manager, I've always been taught to take a "laser' approach and focus on the disruptive few rather than fire a shotgun blast and hit everyone whether they're guilty or innocent.  Also, as a math and logic guy, it only takes one exception to disprove an "all" statement.  :)

Now, back to basketball, it's shaping up to be a great ODAC tournament.  I'm hopeful that three, and possibly four, of our conference teams can make the NCAA tournament.  Wouldn't that be something!?

Ok Guys.....I'm a R-MC alum.I have ,at times, been critical of the VWC program and its fans(not this time but I have in the past)I also live in Hampton Roads and have LOTS of friends who went to VWC thru my proximity to VWC and through my church(both VWC and RMC are affiliated with the United Methodist Church)None of them are thugs and act like that and would not have condoned the type of behavior that has been described to me through people who were there and on this board(I wasn't at the game saturday-I was working)All of that being said.....This is a board about ODAC basketball-that's it.I'm not a VWC fan or a supporter but there's one thing FOR SURE-There has not been a more successful program in the ODAC in the last 5 years or so and also there is not a better coach in all of DIII(or in any division for that matter) than Dave Macedo.Yes-he's a fiery guy and his teams reflect that....yes his guys aren't particularly afraid of confrontation and are physical. Yes, he may get some kids into VWC that may not have gotten in some of our tougher academic schools-but, Plain and simple-THE GUY'S A WINNER!!He gets kids from the local area that may not have been DI kids and he molds them into a team that reflects his philosophy.Do I personally like him-NO! Was I happy that we went to the Fish Tank and won a very hard, tough fight against them-ABSOLUTELY!Do I hope they win the ODAC tournament-HECK NO!......but if I had an 18 yr old son that DIDN'T want to play for Nathan Davis at R-MC where would I like him to go and who would I want him to play for? Without a doubt,if he would have him, it would be Dave Macedo......That's all I have to say about that....

BIG APPLAUSE from an HSC fan, rmc1982 !!

I have seen no less class from VWC fans than from RMC fans.  With a rare exception, I have no concern with how VWC players have conducted themselves on the court.  With a rare exception, I have no concern with how RMC players have conducted themselves on the court.  In my opinion, it is rather classless for an RMC fan to describe VWC fans as without class.

In March 2006, I was in Salem to watch Dave Macedo win the National Championship.  I must admit that I was a big VWC fan for those two big games against Illinois Wesleyan and Wittenberg .... and very excited when Ton Ton hit that three and the confetti came down for an ODAC team!  Check out http://www.vwc.edu/athletics/mbasketball/season/05_06/championship/showcase/index.php?m=wittenberg/ for some good memories.

As previously said, there is no one in the past 5 years of ODAC basketball who has accomplished what Dave Macedo has accomplished (even though Tom Palumbo has gotten close).

Going a little further back than 5 years, there are 4 ODAC coaches who have taken their team to the Sweet Sixteen at least twice ... Tony Shaver (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003), Dave Macedo (2006, 2007), Tom Palombo (2007, 2009), and Mike Rhoades (2002, 2003).  There are only 2 ODAC coaches who have taken their team to the Final Four twice .... Tony Shaver (1999, 2003) and Dave Macedo (2006, 2007).  Dave Macedo is in very good company.   :)

Thanks, 2RMCFans.  We look forward to the game tonight and hope to put you in the same boat we're in ..... that, after the game, you'll be in the position that you have to win the ODAC Tournament to get to the NCAAs.   ;D

We may have some fans that are referred to as "classless"........when I was at R-MC from 1978-82- I might've been one of them.. :P..The H-SC student section can be just as bad, too(at least to us).... ;)
