Lynchburg visits Bridgewater this afternoon and gets a 72-69 win over the Eagles. Tied for 7th but with 2 wins over the Eagles, the Hornets will go into the ODAC tournament as the #7 seed.  When is the last time that Lynchburg was seeded this high?!
LC finished 7th during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

EMU up 14 at the half   42-28. Lets go ROYALS... 1 half away from REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS!!!! DID YOU EVER THINK YOU WOULD SAY THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote from: algernon on February 20, 2010, 04:48:02 PMHopefully, they will finish as the #5 seed in a very strong ODAC, get another win against the Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon, another win against the Royals in the semifinals on Saturday evening, and then pick up their first win against the Marlins or the Quakers in the ODAC Championship game on Sunday afternoon.

Algernon, can we meet up in Salem?  We'd like to try some of whatever it is you're smoking.

WE'RE KIDDING!  But you do amaze us with your... uh, what's the word... oh yeah... confidence!

Congrats to the Royals on what looks like the regular season title on its way to Harrisonburg!

GO JACKETS!!!

2RMCFans .... I'm hoping for nothing other than a set of very plausible outcomes.  Given the current score in Harrisonburg (EMU leading by 18 with 7 minutes to go), it is very likely that the Tigers will be seeded #5 in the tournament.  Given the outcome of the game in Ashland 3 days ago, it is plausible (some might say probable) that the Tigers will defeat the #4 seed in the quarterfinals.  Given the Tigers' solid win when they hosted EMU 3 weeks ago, it is certainly plausible that they could get a get another "royal"  ;D win in the semifinals.  And, given that the Tigers have lost by no more than 5 points in 3 of their 4 losses to Guilford/VWC, it is plausible that they will win the ODAC Championship game, even if their opponent is #2 Guilford or #3 Virginia Wesleyan.

Remember that VWC was seeded #7 last year and won the ODAC Championship, even though the Marlins were only 3-8 against the top 6 seeds during the regular season.  The favorite to win the tournament was a team that went to the Final Four!  If I remember right, the Marlins defeated the #2 seed in the quarterfinals .... ending their season.

If you really think that the scenario for which I'm hoping is NOT plausible, then I think you probably need to quit smoking whatever you're smoking!    ;)

Plausible, but probably not probable!!  HSC has a shot at that just as any ODAC team. But highly unlikely it falls that way for HSC this year.

Put it in the books. EMU 2009-2010 Regular Season Champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Way to go Kirby Dean, Mat Huff, Bill Hale, Carey Keyes! These guys deserve it.
I hope to see Kirby with a COY Award Thurs. and also Todd Phillips POY, they both deserve it!!!!!

Congratulations to the EMU Royals and Guilford Quakers, regular season co-champions!

And congratulations to the Lynchburg Hornets for achieving at a level above anything they have achieved since 1997.  I vaguely remember that HSC played Lynchburg in the ODAC Championship once, a long time ago.  Was that in 1997, Scottie?

1997, yes, it was an ugly 102-70 game according to the ODAC media guide. It was a 5th vs. 7th matchup that year.

That's probably the first ODAC Championship game I ever attended.  If I remember correctly, my 7-year-old daughter went to the game with me, while our other children stayed at home with my wife.  That HSC team featured  a bunch of young Hampden-Sydney players who went on to the National Championship game in 1999.  Obviously, from the viewpoint of an HSC fan, it was a super game!  My daughter's now a junior in college; it's been a long time.

I'm guessing that you were not yet following Hornet basketball, right?

First, congratulations to EMU and Guilford for being regular season co-champs in the ODAC and to the Royals for earning the #1 seed!

Second, congratulations today to Quakers Tyler Sanborn and Rhett Bonner for joining the 1000-rebound and 1000-point clubs, respectively.  Tyler's the 6th Quaker to be a 1000/1000 man and Rhett's the 30th Quaker men's basketball player to score this many points.

Third, I'm not overly unhappy with Guilford's #2 seed - playing at 6 pm on Friday makes it a lot easier for me to go than a 1 pm start.  :)

I noticed that if BC can top Randolph at home on Tuesday, they'll meet their close rival EMU for the third time.  BC's played EMU well this season, so I hope it'll be another close game.

GC draws the winner of the Roanoke at LC game, so that should be interesting as well.

VWC vs W&L or E&H.  HSC and RMC for the 3rd time ... that says it all!

By the numbers ...

Randolph's gym's (PER) published capacity:  400

Empty seats vs GC:  about half

The game's boxscore attendance: 500

Proposed new nickname:  Randolph WildCounts

HSC and RMC for the 3rd time ...

Tigers vs. the Yellow Jackets in the ODAC Tournament .... It's a TRADITION,  as this will be the 9th time in 13 years that the two teams have played each other in the ODAC tournament.  HSC and RMC have played 4 ODAC Championship games, 3 ODAC semifinals, and this will be the 2nd time they've met in the quarterfinals:

February 23, 1998 - ODAC Championship:  HSC 52, RMC 51
February 22, 1999 - ODAC Championship:  HSC 73, RMC 61
February 18, 2001 - ODAC Semifinal:  HSC 69, RMC 66
February 25, 2002 - ODAC Championship:  HSC 55, RMC 48
February 24, 2003 - ODAC Championship:  RMC 48, HSC 47
February 20, 2005 - ODAC Semifinal:  RMC 67, HSC 63
February 19, 2006 - ODAC Semifinal:  RMC 92, HSC 83 .... in OT
February 29, 2008 - ODAC Quarterfinal:  HSC 69, RMC 67
February 26, 2010 - ODAC Quarterfinal:      ???

Yes, I had actually, considering I graduated from LC in 1995. Other than occasional great individual player, I don't try to remember much about basketball from those days, it wasn't pretty for LC that's for sure!

algernon

What's pretty cool is that 6 of the previous 8 games were won by no more than 3 points in regulation or went to OT !

This year, RMC defeated HSC by 1 point at HSC ... and then, HSC defeated RMC by 5 points at RMC.  This year's #4 RMC vs. #5 HSC quarterfinal will likely be just as close as past years' tournament games and this year's regular season games!

Funny you point that out. Their attendance for all but two home games has been 500 according to the box scores. The other two were 150 and 300, much more indicative of their usual attendance. I'd bet my life that Randolph has only packed that gym maybe two to three times all season, and one of them was when LC went over there and even then it took half the crowd being LC supporters for that place to be packed.

Scottie, you were only about 10 years old in 1995 and didn't graduate from LC until 2007.  I doubt that you were following Hornet basketball when the Tigers blew away the Hornets in 1997.

Given your last few posts, I thought you were giving up the facade of being someone else ....
