Not very tall but will run, run, run you to death!! VERY streaky and can hit 3's from everywhere at a furious pace. You will think you're still in the game and you turn around and you're down by...like ...25!! Ask R-MC, VWC,or Guilford(or anybody else in the ODAC for that matter)By far the most dangerous of the 4 in the tournament.I think Guilford top to bottom is the best in the conference(perhaps in the nation)but EMU is just plain SCARY with the amount they can score and BURY teams so quickly....Get ready......or they will RUN YOU OVER!
Some of their threes ought to be worth four ... or five!  You go out thirty feet to guard them and they back up a few feet and hit it anyway.  And they put at least four guys on the court who can take the shot.  They are quick.

transferring from Hampden-sydney to EMU this year, i definitely was not expecting this kind of a basketball season.  This could be the turn around of what used to be a terrible program.  I am glad to call myself a royal, and to the centre guy, i have to agree with hasanova.  our guys can hit three's from ungodly distances.  we dont have many "huge" guys in the paint, but i feel like we are deep at that position.  Andrew thorne can be a tough guy off the bench.  Its a shame that we dont have Austin Twine  anymore.  the injury to his knee has hurt us alot.  maybe austin being the lone senior will be motivation to his teammates to win for him.   Good luck to everyone, and im sure i will miss the first couple of days of my spring break to watch the games in harrisonburg.

I am assuming they pressure the ball defensively from one end to the other given that they score 90 a game and force 22 turnovers per contest.

we do do some full court pressure, but i think most of our steals come from D.J. Hinson, Todd Phillips, and Eli Crawford in the half court.  They anticipate passes alot, and get the breakaway dunk.  i think the key for emu going very far will be Eli Crawford.  He has stepped up in a major way, and i look for him to do more.
Agree on all counts.  I've seen EMU's fortunes beginning to improve for several years.  They're a good team who, on any given day, can beat the best!

Earlier this afternoon the EMU website had the tip at 6.... it now says 8. In addition, Coach Dean said on the ESPN Radio Show with Mac McDonald this afternoon that the game is at 8.

Lycoming vs Wilmington 5:30 or 6pm
Centre vs Eastern Mennonite 8pm

EMU will play at 6

EMU's game is at 8pm on Friday: http://www.emu.edu/athletics/news/?id=2488

My first ODAC tournament this past weekend, what a great event! The organizers and assistance from the Rotary made it run smoothly and, it seemed, efficiently.

Congrats to all the teams for making it and for Guilford for their Championship. I was especially impressed by the semi-finalists and semi-final games.

I have one question about the technical foul call in the EMU/R-MC game. When a technical foul is called, doesn't play stop? I didn't think it was like an injury time out or a change of possession call. Maybe I'm wrong, but it appeared the referee signaled a T then allowed play to continue, the basket was made and the whistle blew. I didn't think it was like an injury time out or a change of possession call.

I think the Royals lost on their inability to convert free throws. I heard some of my R-MC friends (we attended with several Jacket couples) say they weren't sure who won the game but the Jackets came out ahead in the end.

The tourney was a great adventure and I look forward to next year's! But, let's get some ODAC teams to advance and have a little fun first.

Bbspecial, I tried to address the call yesterday on this board. Think it was on page 775 around 9:30 a.m.. It is what I was told by a high school ref.

Thanks, donho, I must have missed in my attempt to read all the posts as quick as I could!!

i understand what you said regarding the call, but it seems to me, that since they allowed the continuation to happen, EMU should have received possession.  a five point play and then the ball just seems crazy.  especially since the technical foul happened noticeably well before the shot.  If it was called immediately then they would have shot the foul shots and then received the ball back, and then had a chance for the five point play.  it doesnt seem logical for it to be called the way it was.

im not gonna dwell on this because we are in good position in the tournament.  and its just not worth it, but that is how i see that call.

If the T is called on a player in the game Emu435 I believe you would be correct. As I said this is how it was explained to me. I think it is a new way of calling a bench technical this year. Seems what they are saying is that if the bench gets the T we are not going to hurt the other team by stopping play, we will let the continuation take place and then blow the whistle. Yes it does seem a bit to much.
Hopfully the one ref who checks this site will help us out.
As you said lets enjoy the ODAC swarm in the NCAA's. Good luck ODAC!

hasanova, your team has guys that can do this, too.  And plenty of them.  Never seen anything quite like it ourselves!!

And Lynchburg is the only one to hang within 10 points of Guilford in the ODAC Tournament. Never expected to say that, actually expected Lynchburg to get blown out in the quarterfinals. Guilford was without a doubt the best team of the bunch for this weekend. The best balanced team in the conference and role players like Brad Monroe came up big for the Quakers in all three games.
LC played well, but GC missed 16 FT's in that game, some the front end of one-and-ones.
And that was the the 11th game this season in which Guilford has made 65% or less of their free throws. Sanborn was 5-12 from the line, he shoots 57% for the season, so a bad performance at the line for him is the expectation, and LC apparently took advantage with that as he took 12 free throw attempts and only made 5. Looks like its just about as likely for the Quakers to miss a lot of free throws as it is for them to miss just a few FTs. "Hack-a-Sanborn" - sounds like a sound strategy to potentially try out.

Quaker Club members:  the Guilford College Quaker Club will have a Hospitality center (in Ragan-Brown or Founders?) on Friday.  It appears as though the Warrick-Ragsdale Room and adjacent classrooms will be used for NCAA receptions/interviews, so stay-tuned for where we'll host and times.

Recruit people to come with you this weekend and let's pack Ragan-Brown!  If you've never seen the Quakers play, now's the time!

Congrats to you & the Quaker faithful. Good Luck to the EM,VW & RM as well - do the ODAC proud.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

In the tournament fantasy league, I took Tyler Sanborn as my first overall pick.  Please a) make the FF, and b) assure that he is channeling his 'inner Ben Strong'! ;D

BTW, b) is the MOST important (to me, not to some of you)! ;)  When we used to just pick 5 players (no draft, so multiple posters could pick the same guy), the 3 of us who picked Ben went 1, 2, 3, even though Guilford LOST in the Elite 8! :o

Not worth dwelling on the T call at this point. You are right!! The one thing I will say is that the continuation is only in effect if it is a clear fast break or advantage. There was no advantage and all players were across half court with the T should have been assessed before the 3pt. That was my take on the call and who knows, it is what it is at this point.

Congrats to all ODAC teams and I wish everyone Luck. I will be rooting ODAC all the way until they play each other!! If that happens.
Looking forward to hosting this weekend!!!! Congrats to GC on the Tournament Title as well. Great group of guys from what I saw, also Coach P is a great guy!

Well, the 59 versus Lincoln could make almost anyone a winner!

Thanks ... and ditto!  I think the ODAC is going to have a good NCAA showing and a couple of teams may end up facing each other again!

Yep, overall, we're not a great FT shooting team.  Bonner's the guy you want with the ball when the game's on the line.  Regarding Sanborn, he's gotten a little better as the season's gone on, but he can be a question mark ... sometimes he's the "5 of 12" you cite and sometimes he can hit 80%.  You never know!
