Tickets for the NCAA Tournament at EMU and Guilford are cheaper than the ODAC Tournament. Just thought that was interesting.
NCAA sets the ticket prices for any NCAA Tournament game in any sport, plus the ODAC has to pay to cover the costs of everyone who works the event and for facility rent, so of course their ticket prices are going to be more. Those are not issues one would have at their own on-campus facility.

True... then again, we're talking about $10 a session which equates to $5 per game - a pretty darn good deal if you ask me.  We saw some great basketball thsi year.  And most of the revenue generated by the ODAC tournament goes to local charities in the Roanoke Valley once costs have been covered which usually is a pretty significant figure.  High school sporting events sometimes cost more in the postseason than that.

Besides, would your teams get treated as well if the tournament was at home sites?  I'd think not... Salem and the Rotary Club really do take care of the ODAC teams well.  There are some D1 conferences whose tourneys pale in comparison to the ODAC Basketball Tournament.

I'm not complaining about the prices of either the ODAC Tournament or the NCAA Tournament. Having a degree in Sports Management I understand the various factors to consider when facilitating a sporting event. I just found it interesting that the NCAA, a very profitable organization (largely from TV rights for Division I), is slightly cheaper than a conference tournament.

Pat Coleman

I've long thought it odd that it's cheaper to attend the Stagg Bowl than a Christopher Newport game.

That's the thing, deanslist.  It is because the NCAA profits as much as it does with their D1 mbb tv contract that they don't have to stick it to lower division fans come tourney time.  The ODAC doesn't draw anywhere near the cashflow as the NCAA, but as I mentioned, at least your money is primarily going to charitable causes.

Just curious, but what does CNU charge for football home games?

Chairback  $15
Reserved Bleacher $10
General Admission $ 7

Yeah, $10 for a bleacher seat for a regular season game! Absurd if you ask me...

bigrips77

not necessarily... have you seen a game at Pomoco Stadium?  Pretty nice facility they have and CNU has a nice following of fans.  Plus, football's pretty big in the Hampton Roads area... It's not outside the realm of possibility for folks to pay that amount to see them play.

Pate Coleman's made his tournament predictions on the front of d3hoops.com - interesting reading, to say the least.  In 2008, when he picked Guilford to go deep in the tournament, the Quakers fell flat on their face right out of the gate - hopefully, a better result this time.  :)  Bottom line, though, he thinks Washington U.'s in line for a "three-peat" and, truthfully, the odds are probably in the Bears' favor.

Pat Coleman

Don't forget, final three-plus hours to enter the D3hoops.com bracket challenge.

You have extra time for the women's bracket, since the first game isn't until 4 p.m. ET on Friday.
