Geez - back to the crickets again.

I've tried to ferret out some Gennie info from  my best contacts. We'll see if I can get scoop on the newbies.

The Generals will be fine.  My prediction will be 4th in the league again.  They'll go through some identity stuff as usual, but they are far from the doormats of the league that they were before Hutchinson got there.  Overall, again they'll finish 4th.  The top 3 teams in the league are just solid, but the rest will beat up on one another.  Don't be surprised though if they finish 3rd.  Yes, I know its a stretch, but there is no way anyone goes undefeated in the league this year, and so long as the Gennies split with at least one of the big 3-which they will, maybe 2- they will have their nose right in the thick of things.  They'll be picked anywhere from 4-6 by the league voters of course, maybe even lower.

My question is this, Shenandoah?  Could the league have gotten a more quality academic team to help balance some things out?  Sheesh.  I like the add of DePauw to the NCAC, they are an excellent academic institution and will make the top 3-4 teams that much more competitive and force the tourney selection committee to look more formidably to adding a 3rd NCAC team to the mix.  Adding Shenandoah, in my eyes, has added another lower tier team especially academically.  We'll see how it works out.

Let's GO Generals!!!  (In my best Brandeis super fan voice!!!)

The Tigers' roster is up:
http://www.hsc.edu/Athletics/Basketball/2010-11-Basketball-Season/2010-11-Roster.html

Returning for the Tigers are last year's Freshman of the Year, Harrison George, along with senior captain Colin O'Neill, junior Ben Jessee, and sophomores Alex Potapov, Randall Ward, and Patrick Corrigan.  Joining the 6 returnees are junior transfer Ru White (on the team but red-shirted during the spring semester) junior transfer Devin Johnson, Fletcher Lumpkin (on the team but red-shirted during the spring semester), and 4 new freshmen:  Khobi Williamson (Norfolk), Sasha Obradovic (Serbia), Keegan Wetzel (Mebane, NC), and Jack Sumner (Gastonia, NC).

This is a BIG team, with 6 solid players at least 6'5" and 205 lb.  -- Potopov (6'8", 215 lb), Williamson (6'7", 230 lb), O'Neill (6'6", 210 lb), George (6'5", 205 lb), White (6'5", 205 lb), and Lumpkin (6'5", 205 lb).  The Tigers should have the ability to compete on the inside with any team in the league.

First Tiger game is in a little over 3 weeks, on November 19.  It should be an exciting season and I expect this team will finish #1, #2, or #3 in the ODAC (along with RMC and EMU).

Looks like big things are expected in the ODAC this year. Guess we all will find out who can coach.

That's true.  Preseason polls mean something, but we must consider the fact that Randolph-Macon was a preseason #19 last year and reached the Final Four ... and Eastern Mennonite wasn't even getting any votes in the preseason poll at all but finished in the Elite Eight.  So who knows what might happen this year?

I see the Quakes got tabbed 5th, which is probably about right since we lost our Big 3.  Keep in mind, however, we still have two guys over 6'9" and sophomore Josh Pittman, who I expect to be a star.  We have a freshman forward from Israel who's 6'7" with a lot of press in HS.  It will, though, definitely be a different team from the past few years.

R-MC Jackets open up the 2010-11 campaign with an exhibition tonite in the friendly confines of Crenshaw Gym against the Hawksbury Jets from Australia-Go Jackets! G-Day Mates!! ;D

Quaker JV was playing Mount Zion (Tracy McGrady's alma mater)  tonight in Ragan-Brown.  Quakes won the first 20-minute stanza 34-32 and then I had to go home.  There were 9 refs there tonight, so I think they were going to play three 20-minute sessions with a different 3-man crew for each session.

Jackets opened up w-an exhibition-if you can call it that...... ::).......no story even on the website but the score was posted....101-25 Jackets....... :o....That team they played must've been AWFUL!

Quakers with a 65-46 win over the Italian Junior National Team last night.  Josh Pittman with 19.  The Italians are very tall, but lacked some of the upper body strength and speed of the Quakers.  Overall, however, a good test - I heard they beat UNC-CH JV by 30 a few days ago.  Guilford's at WFU Friday night!

Ok, we're playing @ Elon in an exhibition Saturday night (odd timing, considering that it will be parents' weekend in Lexington). We'll know more after the scrimmage. I think the Gennies are poised to make some noise. Senior leadership at the point, size up front and athletic on the wings. Thank God hoops is starting up.

Jackets lose a tough one to American 61-55...video feed for me was very spotty, so I don't have too much detail yet, but they got down by 9 or 10 late, and hit some 3s to cut it it 4, and then it came down to FT's...hopefully a game they can learn from once they look at tape, but I am sure the jackets aren't happy with a loss in a close game like that...

y_jack_lok

I'm sure the Jackets aren't happy with the loss, but I also wonder how American feels given that they are D1 and favored to win the Patriot League this season. I recall that the Jackets beat American in an exhibition last year on a last second steal and hoop by Eric Pugh. All in all, last night's loss really isn't anything to be too upset about.

GC Quakers in an exhibition at Wake Forest tonight.  I'm sure former WFU HC Dave Odom (Guilford '65) might have helped set this up.  I would have liked to have seen this game last year as well.  Anyway, I'll be there!
