Jackets are home tonite vs. Marymount and I saw an article in the Va Pilot(Norfolk Paper) this morning about the Fish from VWC, who face Salisbury in the Fish Tank in Va Beach tonite at 7. If I had enough sense to post a link to the article I'd put it here..... :PThe Virginian-Pilot website is pilotonline.com -one of you more computer-literate guys can probably find it and post the link.... ???Its a really good article on VWC and the upcoming season!

Not really so surprising.  Guilford isn't at all the same team it's been the past few years and Greensboro recruited every JC transfer it could get for this season.  Several of Greensboro's "new" players are from GTCC (Guilford Technical Community College) and they've been a a very strong JC program the past few years.  With that being said, however, Guilford should have won this game in both regulation and in OT, but could never put GCP away.  At any rate, congratulations to the Pride.

The Generals squeaked one out at home. Somewhat disturbing to not see Cimino in the line up. He's the only senior, captain, leading retuning scorer. Last season he was the  assist leader and 2nd in minutes played. I hope he's not hurt.
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

They did play very well for their youth.  A bunch of soph's and frosh basically.  As I mentioned before, so long as they play hard, they can play with anyone.  They need to make a higher percentage of FT's and control the glass which helps with the tempo of course.  They'll also need to cut down on the TO's.  Overall good showing for a team with a ton of question marks.  How bout that CHARGE!!!  As for Cimino, I'm sure there was a reason he didn't play and that it wasn't some run of the mill yank/benching.  We'll see as the time goes along.

Go Gennies!

I can't remember a time since becoming a Randolph-Macon fan where we've had a team better poised to do so well as this year. I am really looking forward to this season. GO JACKETS!

The Tigers' season begins in 2 days!  I understand that they did well the other night against Christopher Newport University, last season's USA South Tournament champions, who were ranked second behind Ferrum in this year's USA South Preseason Poll.

Guilford over Methodist tonight in Fayetteville, 77-53 - Josh Pittman with 19 and at least two other Quakers were in double figures.  Another game Friday night at GC versus McMurry from Texas - no nickname for McMurry, but the team formerly known as the Indians won 17 last season and trounced Barclay College from KS 82-25 to start the 2010-11 campaign.  I'd never heard of Barclay, so I googled it - they're a coed member of the ACCA with about 250 students and only four sports -basketball and volleyball for women and basketball and soccer for men.  All in all, then, not a representative test of how strong McMurry is this year.   The GC/McM game is part of a tournament, with Emory and Averett in the opener.  Saturday will have the consolation game at 3 and the championship at 5.

It's interesting that Hampden-Sydney's Ru White and Randolph-Macon's Jordan Brown were teammates at L.C. Bird High.

In fact, Ru White was the Dominion District MVP in his senior year (2005-2006) and, the following year, Jordan Brown was the Dominion District MVP in his senior year (2006-2007).  These two will get a couple of opportunities to play against each other as part of a great school rivalry this year!   Saturday, January 22 @ Kirby Field House  ... and on Saturday, February 19 @ Crenshaw.

Quakers host a doubleheader tournament tonight in Ragan-Brown:

Averett vs Emory at 6 pm
Guilford vs McMurry at 8 pm

I look forward to seeing our Quaker Club members tonight at the halftime reception.  If any posters from the other three schools will be there, look me up!

In a game up at Haverford.....WLU is up 32-20 with 2:46 to go in the first half.  Started slow and nothing was dropping (this includes lay ups) but they have kept the TO's down and the cap has come off the bucket.  HU is hacking away it seems and the Gennies could be in for a big win on the road.
