Elon 76  HSC 56 with over 20 HSC points scored in last 5 minutes - never stopped but could not get shots to fall in first 35 minutes. Ru Williams had good game. Under 30% team shooting after averaging over 50% in first couple of games - still good warmup for season

The Tigers fall to Elon, 76-56.  The Tigers' Ru White had 19 points.  But, overall, the Tigers were pretty cold from the floor and the foul line; otherwise, the score might have been a lot closer.  Nevertheless, Hampden-Sydney stayed closer to this Division I team than did the College of New Jersey (or Greensboro and W&L in exhibition games).  I'm sure it was a good experience to build upon as they get ready for next week's tournament ....  and ODAC action on Wednesday of next week in Harrisonburg.

Marlins blowout the captains...up by as much as 33 and clear the bench with 5 mins left.. if they play like this defensively teams will have a problem getting points. Nice to see they won this game by so much without donald vaughn and dj woodmore playing too many minutes... DJ woodmore is a player and i see him in the top 3 for rookie of the year... reminds me a lot of Stephen Fields and the impact he had as a freshmen. has looked like the best player on the floor a few games this year for a very deep wesleyan squad

hasanova

Quakers over Averett, 61-52, in Danville last night despite an ugly game by both teams.  Since former GCQ assistant Matt Parke is now coaching the Cougars, the teams certainly knew each other's tendencies.  Guilford improves to 3-2.

T.C. Anderson with a game- and career-high 20 with 13 of 14 made from the line.  Congratulations T.C.!

The Jackets are manhandled by Wabash College today and lose it by double digits.

Turnovers appear to have been one of the keys to the dismal performance today on the road.

(Along with fouling problems...)

Hope we can regroup QUICKLY!

GO JACKETS!!

We also shot 34% from the field ,went 3-18 beyond the arch, and shot 47%from the free throw line-not gonna beat many teams like that! We did hold them to less than 40% shooting, which is our trademark, but still lost...BADLY!....ALOT of basketball left to play! VWC coming to Crenshaw wed nite-we'll see now how they respond! Go Jackets-we still love you!

:) HSC 87   Shenandoah 78  Harrison George had 18 points and 12 rebounds - Ben Jessee had 19 points and 3 assists with only one turnover  - Ru White had 12  points and 7 rebounds with 5 assist. A key was rebounding where HSC had a 40-26 advantage.  HSC will play North Carolina Weslyan tomorrow at 1:00 - Weslyan won in double OT today over Farmington.

Well put. But credit Wabash with playing a great game -- I was there. They have incerdible hustle, defend with terrific intensity, and rebound really well. After the Jackets and Wabash beat UW-LaX and Otterbein easily Friday night I was puzzled about how today's game would go. Then when Otterberin beat UW-LaX in the consolation game I said "Uh oh." Turned out that was a realistic reaction. Plus Wabash has a senior guard named Wes Smith who had two monster games and is one of the hardest to guard D3 players I've seen in the past ten seasons. Don't know what he's done the past three years, but he's averaging 25+ ppg and almost 6 rebounds per game this season. He was clearly a better player than UW-LaX's Tony Mane who is a pre-season 4th team all-american. Smith plays on a better team, but he's the guy doing it all right now. No one else on Wabash is even close to scoring in double figures. Wabash may have earned themselves some top 25 votes with today's win.

P.S. I also want to say thanks to the R-MC parents who treated this grizzled old grad so kindly. Very nice people.

:) HSC 87   Shenandoah 78  Harrison George had 18 points and 12 rebounds - Ben Jessee had 19 points and 3 assists with only one turnover  - Ru White had 12  points and 7 rebounds with 5 assist. The Tigers hit 57% of their shots!  Outrebounded Shenandoah 40-26.  Colin O'Neill, Alex Potapov, and Khobi Williamson each had 9 points ....  and 3-5 rebounds apiece.

Today, the Tigers play the N.C. Wesleyan Bishops, who defeated Mary Washington University in 2OT yesterday.  For what it's worth, the Bishops were not as highly ranked as Shenandoah was in the U.S.A. preseason poll.  Although they have a 3-2 record, the Bishops have played only 2 DIII teams .... defeating Wesley and Mary Washington.  (In their other 3 games, they slaughtered Maryland Bible, 91-51 ... but were similarly slaughtered by North Carolina A&T, 100-66, and Coastal Carolina University, 96-56).  Hopefully, the Tigers can get a real solid win over the Bishops today and put together some good momentum for their big game in Harrisonburg on Wednesday.

algernon

This week, the Tigers (hopefully 4-1 ... and 4-0 against DIII opponents) will go to Harrisonburg on Wednesday to play EMU (5-0) for the only matchup between the two teams during the regular season.

On Saturday, the Tigers will host Johnson and Wales University (Charlotte).  The JWU Wildcats are in their second season as a varsity intercollegiate sport (finishing 0-3 in a limited first season last year).  Their current record is 0-10, and they have lost their first 10 games by an average game score of 92-43  (see http://charlotte.jwuathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2010-11/schedule).  Johnson and Wales lost to Chad Warner's Shorter University team a few weeks ago by a score of 106-47.  The only college that has beaten the Johnson and Wales by less than 20 points has been Barber Scotia College, another college where the varsity basketball team is playing only its second season of intercollegiate competition.

So there will be quite a contrast in the quality of the competition this coming week .... the Tigers playing DIII #2 Eastern Mennonite (5-0) on Wednesday, followed by Johnson and Wales (currently 0-13 in their first 2 seasons of competition) on Saturday ...  !

We'll be fine.  A few losses, which we're going to have, can be good things.  Sounds like Wabash was ready for us (congrats Tippsy!).
