435   perhaps you should keep your computer off after such a whiny rant. And your statement, "but it sucks when the refs leave such a bad taste in your mouth"
Well.......? I could  add something here......but I will not.

And speaking of taste, looks like the Tigers had a "Culinary Delight" served via Johnson-Wales tonight.

ODAC basketball....what a joyous season!

^ We agree with 435 that the refs are always a factor in ODAC basketball, but the Jackets earned the win based on the stats and by keeping their composure overalll.

As someone here said, the refs were terrible both ways in the VWC/R-MC game, but it just isn't anything that we can change so why comment on it.

EMU is going to have a great season and may well get their revenge against the Jackets as it goes on.  That's something that makes ODAC basketball about the most exciting in the nation-- ALL the rivalries really bring out the fans.

GO JACKETS!!!

Sooo the #1 team lost, the #2 team lost, EMU lost to RMC, who lost to VWC, who came into the week ranked #9 and beat the #7 ranked team and won again today to bring their record to 9-0.... could VWC possibly be ranked in the top 5 when the new polls come out?

I'd put the Marlins @ #4, Wabash @ #7, RMC @ #9, @ and EMU @ #10.

4    Virginia Wesleyan    8-0
5    UW-Stevens Point   4-1
6    Illinois Wesleyan     6-1
7    Wabash                 8-0

algernon - acknowledging my bias, your new Top 10 looks good to me!  :) ;)

Props to the ODAC...with EMU, RMC and VWC in the Top 10 and a strong Guilford program, your conference is the deepest in all of Division III, IMO.  Should be some great games to watch in the ODAC race this year!

wooscotsfan .... You forgot to mention a strong Hampden-Sydney program ...  ;)

The Tigers have lost to a DI program (Elon) and beaten a culinary arts college (Johnson and Wales).  Otherwise, they are 4-1 so far this season ... their only loss to Eastern Mennonite.  Of the top 10 players, only 5 were getting significant playing time last season, so the Tigers are a young team with a lot of talent (including last year's ODAC Freshman of the Year) who will likely develop into one of the the best in the ODAC this year.

The R-MC EMU game last night was a barn burner! Congrats to the Jackets, they earned the victory! Even when there seemed to be a bit of panic during a momentum shift, you were calm and methodical. You definitely get the Cool Hand Luke Award!

To rebut a couple of comments. We won't out rebound anyone, (with our height, or lack of) but we'll out-quick almost anyone.

It may not have been the worst officiating I've seen, but we went to the line 16 times compared to R-MC's 31, that's quite a difference considering we didn't foul when we should have (with 40 or 50 some seconds left).

I will say that the guts end went to the Jackets. The Royals played their guts out, but R-MC would not collapse. The game at Crenshaw should be... even better?

Bbspecial, well said. I agree, the Jackets earned the win last night. The free throw line was def. a difference along with the offensive rebounding by RMC. Good teams will capitalize on second chance points along with points off TO's. 36 of RMC 73 points were off of 2nd chance points and points off turnovers. I didn't think the Runnin' Royals played loose. It seemed they wanted the 'revenge' (from last years ODAC semifinal game) so badly they just played tight.

One thing with EMU is you can never count them out for two reasons. They can put up points in a hurry and with the heart and determination of this team, especially Eli Crawford. The Royals made it interesting last night cutting the RMC lead of 13 points with 4 minutes left to just 2 points with 1.5 minutes on the clock. I think RMC and EMU are so evenly matched. If they were to play 10 games, each would win 5.

Algernon, you think EMU will drop 7 spots after losing to another top 10 team? I agree Va Wesleyan and RMC will be ahead of EMU in the polls, but I don't see them dropping that far. By the way, HSC are going to get there fair share of  wins this season. I was at the EMU-HSC game Wednesday night and the next couple seasons looks strong for that team. GO EMU.

With regards to the officiating in the ODAC.....It's not like its anything new....ITS AWFUL!! Whoever is in charge of the officials need to tighten up and at least get them a little bit consistent.....For what its worth, it usually seems like the visiting team gets the better calls, and I can't figure it out, either, soo lets just all say we have TO LIVE WITH IT!!!
I also think that this is gonna be one of those seasons where there are going to be alot of losses by all at the top and alot of upsets-the team that's gonna win the title(reg season) is gonna be the team that takes care of business at home and keeps the most upsets from happening on the road(and that may or may NOT be one of the "chosen three")Right now its VWC, but we all know that that can change on a dime with a bad week or two.... ??? ::) :P....This is gonna be a WILD year.....and one thats gonna be ALOT of fun to watch!! Let's all enjoy the ride-it's not always this good!!......and remember that the one constant is gonna be that somebody's not gonna get the right calls......if these guys were the best in the country they wouldn't be officiating in the ODAC!! ;) ;D 8-) :P

OK Hasa - in honor of the ODAC refs, I think you should pen a line or two in the spirit of the holidays ;D

Brad Bankston was kind enough to quickly reply to my plea for better officials a few years ago. Always nice when the commish is responsive. However it didn't seem to change anything. Your typical ODAC ref would fit somewhere between an average CYO ref & a poor HS freshman ref. Then again, it is a blessing when they're bad both ways (or bad for your opponents ::) - which never seems to happen, something to do with the toast always landing jelly side down)
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

There once were some refs getting static,
Their whistles - are all automatic!
The zebras said wryly
"We blow, just not shyly,
It's a T if our calls aren't erratic!"

My sentiments exactly! Great HASA!!
Thank you, both - I appreciate it.  After 18 years of formal education, a ropes course, a traumatic realization that Mom and Dad may be Santa, an intervention and numerous therapy sessions, my only recognizable skill!  :)
