I've driven two vehicles 300k+, but I doubt the Nova will join that club.  :)  The last 10 years or so, I'm sure it's gotten less than a 1000 miles per year.

OK, I've got it now (I suppose I should have understood when you adopted the name) - this is your BABY, your pride and joy, not your actual CAR!  I had those sorts of feelings for a car I never did end up owning (and now I cannot for the life of me even remember precisely what it was - it was a convertible from GM [Olds?], about 1965).

Mr. Ypsi

Ah, I knew once I posted and stopped trying to remember, it would come to me!  Olds Cutlass convertible, mid 60s (I think 65 was my favorite, but not positive on the year).  What a sweet lookin' machine! ;)

My daily driver (2004 Toyota 4Runner) gets about 22,000-24,000 miles per year.  The '68 Nova was my primary car for a number of years, but it's not driven a lot now.  It's a fun car for weekends and special occasions.

Second week poll is out.  VWC #3, EMU #8, and RMC is #12.   I expect that we will see many more changes before the end of the year.  Division III is loaded with talented teams this year and it will be awhile before the frontrunners can be sorted out for good.  For the ODAC to have 3 teams in the top 25 is still amazing, when you consider there are over 400 teams in Division III.  A tribute to the coaches and players who have made the ODAC such a strong conference.

UGGH. W&L has lost their last 2 games by a total of 4 points. How frustrating for the guys. Of course, when the game was on the line a W&L frosh tied it with free throws, then another frosh gave it away with a foul, followed by a sophomore just missing on the game's last attempt. Young at the end of the game. An all too common theme for W&L unfortunately...

Hasa .... Our cars sort out much the way yours do:  Our primary car runs about 20K+ miles/year, while my 1972 VW Beetle, which I bought from a neighbor in 2002 when it had 147,000 miles on it, has only recently moved past the 160,000 mile mark!

Not only is the ODAC the best conference in D-III, but this is - by far - the best board. You guys rock! Too funny!

Ah, newbies! :D

The ODAC is now firmly entrenched among the 'power conferences', but that is a recent development.  The traditional top two (WIAC and CCIW), as well as such established power conferences as NESCAC, UAA, and OAC, may beg to differ with the 'top conference' award!  The last three-four years you've had as many top TEAMS as anyone, but to be top conference you've got to lift up those cellar dwellers.

Possible criteria for "Top Conference in last 5 Years (2006-2010)" ....

National Championships (2006-2010):
UAA - 2
NESCAC - 1
ODAC - 1
WIAC - 1
CCIW - 0
OAC - 0

Final Four teams (2006-2010):

ODAC - 5 (probably more than any other conference)
CCIW, NESCAC, OAC, UAA, WIAC - ?

Sectional ("Sweet Sixteen") teams (2006-2010):  ODAC, CCIW, NESCAC, OAC, UAA, WIAC - ?

The redesign of d3hoops is not yet complete and I can't find the Playoff files online.  Maybe someone else has the information.  Eventually, I may get back to it ....

With regards to "cellar dwellers," it seems that none of the above-named conferences lacks cellar dwellers. There's no doubt that the ODAC does well in non-conference competition, top-to-bottom .... in fact, I'm not sure that there is a single ODAC team with a losing record in non-conference competition over the past 3-4 years.

Finally, I'm not clear that the recent performance of the OAC in the NCAA Tournament warrants its being classed with the ODAC, UAA, NESCAC, CCIW, and WIAC as one of the "top conferences."

Just my thoughts ....

I'll probably keep the Nova 'til I just can't press the clutch in any longer.  :)

Mr. Ypsi

Algernon,

I'll contribute a little info for your 'top conference' calculation.

The CCIW has, alas, had only one FF team in your period of 2006-2010 (and IWU is still itching for a re-match against Va Wes!  In the opinion of many [including me] that Titan team was one of the best d3 teams ever [TWO first team AAs, and a third who was first team the next year], but "on any given night" :().

The CCIW has had 6 teams (from 4 different schools) make the sectionals.

In terms of depth of the conferences, the CCIW has had SEVEN (of 8) make it into the tourney over that five year period.  (Only Millikin, a very proud program up through the 60s [and again briefly in the 80s] is threatening to become perennially irrelevant.)  With no disrespect intended to the ODAC (who AT THE TOP may well be the best conference the last 2-3 years), when was the last time Lynchburg, Randolph, or E&H was relevant?  (And both E&H and Bridgeport are below .500 non-con so far this season.)

And I agree, the OAC may have gone the way of the NJAC (which USED to be a 'power conference').  We oldtimers sometimes get stuck on past glories! :D

Thanks, Mr. Ypsi, for your input regarding the CCIW.

In terms of depth of conference, the ODAC has had FIVE (or 6?) of TEN teams that have made it into the tourney over the five year period.  I'm not including Randolph, as their men's basketball program is only in its 4th year of existence (3rd year participating in the ODAC).

I believe that only Lynchburg and Emory & Henry have failed to finish in the top half of the ODAC at some point over the past 5 years.

If you look at non-conference records over the last 3 years, even Lynchburg and Emory & Henry have not done too terribly bad when they've been playing outside of the ODAC conference.  These are their non-conference records (2008-present, cumulative):

Lynchburg           11-13
Emory and Henry   10-13

Brian Hamilton

Actually, E&H may have been in the top half when HSC won the tourney a few years back in 2007 I believe.  I think HSC was the #5 seed and played E&H in the first round.  I may be recalling a different year, but I think I am correct on that.  That was the year that Mike Edwards carried the Tigers through the tournament with some help from a Freshmen by the name of Turner King.

R-MC up by ten 5 minutes into the game.
This is my one rant for the game, Why three minutes into the game have we played seven players and five minutes in we have played ten players. Man you don't even work up a sweat in that amount of time.
