What time does the Guilford/RMC game start saturday?

78rmc

We're getting our Methodist brothers from Shenandoah, seems only fair to give someone in exchange to the USAS.

Absolutely, he's welcome.  DeWayne can even use my seat, Section B, Row 5, Seat 3.

I think he might be more comfortable across court sitting with those young people with the yellow shirts(if they even have one on) but they have a great big 6 on the front(either painted on their chest or on their shirt)in black-I'm sure they're his favorite colors!! :P ;) ;D.......Just walk right up to them and say"I'm from VWC-show me your hospitality"-especially to some of those big, lacrosse player types-I'm sure they'll be REAL nice to him!! ;) ;)-especially after all those EXAMS they've had!! :D :D ;)

78rmc - please explain to those of us who aren't as intelligent as our Randolph Macon College brethren why Virginia Wesleyan College should be in the USAS. Thank you.

My comment was intially intended to simply 'ruffle DeWayne's feathers'.  But JWW has a fair question and deserves an honest answer.  Simply put, institutionally, VWC fits the USAS profile.  I would base this on student profiles, demographics, endowment levels, academic standards and reputation, college's age and traditions, admissions atandards, and most any other statistical standard.  For example, few, if any USAS schools are PBK.  Now, I don't blame VWC for wanting to be in a higher caliber of schools, that's good for them.  (here come the USAS posters now!)

I know many fine people have acquired a quality education at VWC, but at the institutional level it aligns with the USAS.  I'm not saying it's a bad thing.  To its credit, VWC has come a long way and certainly is headed in the right direction.  As a matter of fact, a fellow RMC alum and fraternity brother was your long term President and did an outstanding job.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not so pleased with RMC either.  Its standards have slipped under the current administration and particularily in the academic quality of students in some of its athletic programs, specifically on the football team.

To be fair to both schools, these are challenging economic times, and quality will slip.

Perhaps at one time Virginia Wesleyan College "fit" the USAS profile. Recognizing that it is squarely in the midst of quality programs and prestigious institutions like Hampden Sydney College and Washington & Lee, the leaders of VWC have undertaken an aggressive program to improve the college academically. The new academic dean is on target and VWC is currently a candidate for Phi Beta Kappa recognition, the nation's most prestigious liberal arts honorary.

Since Phi Beta Kappa is all of a sudden a topic of discussion, let's have a round of applause for
R-MC's distinction as the most outstanding liberal arts chapter in the nation last year (which doesn't seem indicative of any slippage in educational standards.)  Here's the link for the interested:

Ashland has warmed up to welcome the Quakers today... so travel safely.  Good luck to all the ODAC teams this weekend.

GO JACKETS!!!

I'm not sure what you mean by student profiles or demographics, 78rmc, but I've looked at SAT scores for these various institutions, and a realignment of the conferences based upon that admission standard would look something like this:

ODAC:
Washington and Lee
Christopher Newport
Guilford
Randolph
Hampden-Sydney
Roanoke College
EMU
Randolph-Macon
Greensboro College

USA South:
Lynchburg
Emory & Henry
Bridgewater
Shenandoah
Methodist
North Carolina
Virginia Wesleyan
Averett
Ferrum

We'd have to bring CNU and Greensboro into the ODAC .... and then we'd move Lynchburg, Emory & Henry, Bridgewater, and Virginia Wesleyan to the U.S.A. South.  Of course, we'd have to prevent Shenandoah from joining the ODAC, too.

But, let's be real now .... there's no way we could possibly keep Washington and Lee in the ODAC anymore, given the huge difference between W&L's admissions standards and those of the rest of the ODAC schools.  Getting into W&L is much more like getting into Haverford, Swarthmore, or Johns Hopkins, so we'd need to ship them off into the Centennial Conference.

But enough of all of this admission-standards goofing-around .... I must say that I really like having the Marlins in the ODAC.  In basketball, the #3 Marlins strengthen the conference in a huge way.  The Marlins remain the only ODAC team other than the 1999 Tigers to have made it as far as the DIII National Championship Game .... and these Macedo-led players have done it not just once, but twice -- bringing home all of the marbles in 2006!  The Marlins have certainly helped to raise the level of play throughout the ODAC over the past 6-7 years.

Plus, I have to admit that I can't help but enjoy it when the Marlins go to Crenshaw Gym and beat the Yellow Jackets .... ;)

Looks like the Yellow Jackets are on the verge of a big win over Guilford ..... the score is 62-44, with less than 6 minutes left to play.

FISHTANKFAN

Marlins win today over Shenendoah 76-48.  Since Macedo became head coach the Marlins are currently 225-76 overall and 130-48 in ODAC play. Not to mention a National Championship and a national runner-up, 6 NCAA tournament bids and 13-5 in tournament play.  I for one believe that the Marlins have made the ODAC a better conference and raised the level of play for all ODAC teams.  VWC is on the right path to excellence.  They are a young school.  Give them a few more years to achieve excellence in all aspects.  Only time will tell if they can reach the heights of RMC , W&L or HSC in other areas.  Enough said..for now. 10-0.  Go Marlins!
