From listening to the R-MC v Hood game last night I got the impression that Hood was willing to foul as much as possible (29 fouls for the game with three players fouling out) to prevent the Jackets from scoring field goals in exchange for free throws, some of which they knew would be missed. Then on the offensive end they milked the shot clock on most possessions to shorten the game and keep the score low. If that was the strategy, it certtainly worked to keep the score low, though not to win the game.

The Hood strategy almost worked, it kept them in the game and allowed a weaker team the opportunity to win, so I give them a lot of credit for a good game plan.  A better team could win with that strategy against the Jackets.  Let the Jackets take the treys and lose by 40+ (aka Averett), or foul and take the FTs one point at a time.

BTW, where is Jordon Brown this season?

yj424 - "HSC dad - yall have long way to go" - yes it is still uphill but before this year is over, there will be some teams who wished that they had not played H-SC and will certainly say that about the future - just a matter of time as the league is so much stronger than it was in H-SC late 1990 and early 2000 days but they are coming back :).

yj 424,  doesn't matter to me what the record is, I just don't like the quick hook. No way can a player get a feel for any game in three minutes be it basketball , football, soccer whatever.

yj424

Don Ho....I... like you.... are of a time where first string would play hard for 7 to 8 minutes before any subs. And quality teams would maybe go 8 deep in their rotation..... Times have changed...if there is depth in one's roster.... able to rest legs...limit fouling, ....and still win...then I'm for it.

HSC Dad, I always fear facing HSC.  Well coached, great atheletic scholars, and I remember what they did to us in Crenshaw last February. It's a long way for all of us to go. After all...... it is THE ODAC!

May all our students have healthy seasons!

yj424, important part of your post is" if there is depth in one's roster". Enough said from this end.

I'm with "Tiny Bubbles" - the coach or supporters can sell the 3 minute sub as new wave. The overwhelming conventional wisdom tells me that the coach doesn't have confidence in the player he yanks.  If the player is out of shape or  consistently making bad decisions then he doesn't deserve to start; or, the coach enjoys head games. While I'm commenting about RMC program. I'll take a shot at my Generals too. We have 10 players averaging double digit minutes. Most of us would think we're blowing people out, to spread playing time around like that. We're only 6 pts better per game. I wish we'd settle on our top 8 and develop some consistency. Our top 2 guys are on the bench for 13/14 minutes a game after that only 2 other guys play slightly more than a half. Hard to get rhythm or momentum working for you there. ???
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

78 perhaps playing only 25 minutes a game has something to do with it. He never was a good shooter but the young man can run, jump and play outstanding defense. So let him do those things for you. Hard to do that sitting.
It is not just at R-MC I see it all over. Just sticks out at R-MC cause I follow them.

Danny Jones and Jordan Brown became the 38th and 39th players in Randolph-Macon College Basketball history to exceed the 1,000 point mark. Jones on Thursday and Brown on Friday. Great job guys.

Why don't we leave the substitution strategies to the coaches? Clearly Nathan Davis knows what he is doing with that RMC basketball program (as much as I hate to say that).

Marlins win by 10 over Lynchburg today.  Looked like a very sloppy game reading the play by play, but a win regardless.  12-0.  Go Marlins!

Quakers (6-5) entertain St. Mary's (MD) at 7 pm in Ragan-Brown Fieldhouse.  The Seahawks are 9-2 and the last time they came to visit they rained on GCQ's NCAA parade in Ben Strong's last game.

Speaking of Ben Strong, he's now with another team in Israel (sorry, their name escapes me) and had 40 points in the 68 minutes he's played in his first two games.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't argue with whatever techniques helped a coach, who at his first year at his respective school, led the team to the Final Four and to another good start this season... if he wants to sub in a whole new 5 with 19:46 left in the first half every game and it wins him games, let him do it!

Quakers with a nice come-from-behind win over 13th ranked St. Mary's (MD) in Greensboro tonight, 61-57.  I don't have individual totals, but Guilford was ineffective offensively in the first half and trailed 31-22 at the break.

@ BaselineJam....I am sorely confused.  Your team is winning aren't they?  Nobody complains about Mike Moran who is winning and subs 3-5 players every 3.5-5.0 minutes.  You are a WLU fan right?  Supposed to be a supporter, right?  As am I.  They are winning bro.  I just don't get all of the frustration.  Your team is WINNING and has been the last three years with this philosophy, and I just rarely see anything positive posted on here about Generals coaching.  It is really baffling me and disheartening from supporter to supporter.  Nobody has put together 3 winning seasons in a row EXCEPT: Young, Canfield, and Hutchinson.   I think that's pretty, pretty darn good whatever the rotation.  Now, is it fan friendly?  Not if you like to listen to people complain.  Is it player friendly?  For the talent level at WLU and some of the other institutions, absolutely.  It's a formula that allows everyone to play, you know you can play as hard as you can, get a blow, and then get back in.  Now, is it liked by everyone, nope- which is obvious.  Even the young guys get the chance to play.  And, if there is a player- regardless of what year they are in the program- who doesn't get it done, or a younger player is better, in most programs guess who plays?  The younger player- at least in the programs  that are WINNING.  People's feelings might get hurt, but in the long run when players go look in the mirror instead of being pacified by parents or a nosey fan, usually the proof is in the pudding, and not that coach was trying to ride me out of town.  Just some thoughts.

Just an observation, with all due respect.

There are some programs who play their horses til they die, sub for 2 minutes, and then they get back in there.   It typically shows lack of depth due to skill level or youthfulness.  So I think you go with what works for you, not based off of some panoramic view of other programs and what used to happen.  Each program has different personnel, different kids coming in and out from recruiting, etc.  Whatever helps you win and do so respectfully, do it.  That's what I was taught at every level- whether I liked the lesson or not, lol.

Go Generals!
