When Maryville played Guilford, I thought that Akinsola was going to be a key to the rest of the Quakers' season.  Pittman is a really good player but he is easier to deal with than Akinsola.

Quakers visit Randolph on Wednesday night - looks like a possible trap game to me!  The Wildcats are really playing well - and what an odd gym to play in.  I made the trip there last February and it was good to see the venue firsthand.  As Randolph matures as a coed school, I think they'll eventually need to consider a larger gym with more conventional seating.  As it is now, there are spots on the floor closest to the stands where the fans can't see the action.  Go Quakers!

Hot gym, too.  You'll drop weight just sitting in there. ;)

Randolph will play like they're possessed.  The Quakes can't get lazy or they'll leave with an "L."

I think you're right, scottiedoug.  Not to take anything away from Maryville, but I think Guilford was still "finding themselves" in the post-Sanborn/Henson/Bonner era when we played.  I was worried about that game and my fears proved to be true!  When Pittman is cold (or very tightly guarded), Akinsola has to be the scorer ... and thankfully, that's what happened last Saturday.

Yes, it is, especially with Randolph filling it up this year.

VWC comes back and absolutely WAXES Bridgewater last night-Good article on VWC yesterday and today in the Norfolk-based Virginian-Pilot.Owned by the Batten family(who the fish tank is named for)the Va-Pilot is notoriously sorry at covering the ODAC in ALL sports.
Should be an interesting next two weeks for alot of basketball-we should be clearer on who is in the top spots going into the tournament.Locally we Hampton Road-sters even get a good look at our Jackets with them playing at CNU on the first and at VWC on the 9th! Our gracious Methodist brethren at VWC are even letting us have a reception for our football coach Pedro Arruza before the VWC game in the Batten Center-Hope to see and meet a few of my friends on here so I can put a face with a name at the game, too! The VWC men have a tough road this week with games at EMU and W&L.....We have Roanoke at home tomorrow night and have to go to Ragan-Brown on saturday.......OH NO!...We'll see..... ??? ;)

In the pilot's defense, Whenever they do the state roundups they always include ODAC scores... of course they aren't going to write and in-depth article about Guilford or EMU because those schools aren't in the immediate geographic area that the Pilot covers. Heck the pilot doesn't even cover CNU games... the Daily Press, which is the Peninsula news source, covers those. I think it's good that the Pilot covers VWC games the way they do because with ODU and Norfolk State being the bigger schools in that area, the Pilot is giving VWC some exposure when that program has been the one that has been the most successful over the years in that area. Also, alot of the players on VWC teams have played for the high schools in South Hampton Roads, which also get a ton of coverage from the Pilot, which gives high school fans an opportunity to follow the college careers of some of these players. It's the same as the Times Dispatch giving RMC the exclusive coverage that they do with respect to ODAC sports. This whole year I've been living in Richmond I haven't seen a long article talking about HSC, EMU, or VWC. And for the record, the Pilot did give RMC a full page commemorating their run to the Final Four last year.

DeWayne-I beg to differ....In sunday's Pilot-NOT A MENTION of the R-MC-H-SC game-not even the score. The past two weeks the sunday Pilot has had very few,or none at all besides VWC coverage of the ODAC.During Football season it was a LUCKY DAY if the scores were even posted.I would EXPECT them to cover VWC as it is a NORFOLK school, but there have been times when there was BARELY A SCORE.My girlfiend lives over in Smithfield and she takes the Daily Press and they cover VWC better than the Pilot on more occasions than i can mention, and they ALWAYS have ALL of the ODAC Scores AND BOXES.The last few days,as I have mentioned, they have had good coverage of the Fish, but as a whole-THEY SUCK!I have complained numerous times,as they cover every MEAC school(even the ones far far away from here)and I realize Norfolk State and Hampton are MEAC schools but WHO CARES what SC State did?....and alot of other stuff that has NO LOCAL interest but Rich Radford and co. never change!I'm not expecting a story, but at least the scores would be nice! The T-D does a much better job as a whole covering ALL ODAC schools than the Pilot.I know that R-MC is a "hometown" team there as VWC is to the Hampton Roads area but they at least post small stories with the ODAC scores.Do me a favor-Look in Sunday's Pilot and see if I'm correct-there will be a story(albeit a small one since the Fish are at W&L)but see if anyone else is mentioned in the ODAC.Then look at the T-D and the Daily Press and see what they have-I GUARANTEE I'm right! Will you be @ the Batten Center for the VWC-RMC game? Hope to finally meet you buddy-along with JWW too!! Safe travels.... ;)....and one more thing.....Don't you THINK they should cover CNU too??They ARE in the geographic area!! That's EXACTLY what I'm saying.... ;) :D :P

ODAC coverage is poor everywhere.  Lynchburg has three ODAC schools in the immediate vicinity, as well as the ODAC headquarters (in Forest), and coverage is still pathetic.  Occasionally they'll do a feature on all the teams, but they don't even keep the conference standings from week to week (as far as I know). :-\  This is especially annoying during football season, when I can get the Alleghany-Ripon score, but have to hit the internet for the R-MC/Bridgewater score.

WSET, our local ABC affialiate does pretty good coverage here though.  You will see highlights of Randolph/Lynchburg teams here at 11.  Since they've started doing the ODAC baseball tournament here, they do well with that also.

Don't get me started in the RT-D.  They used to do a decent amount of coverage on Randolph-Macon back in the '80s.  And sometimes they'll do a great story every now and then.

But I've already done all the moaning I can do about the RT-D and ODAC basketball referees.  My supply of rancor for these two topics got used up, oh, sometime in 2006. ;D  It's time for some younger ODAC posters and fans to do the whinin'.  I'm too tired. ;)

DeWayne-If you do, then my advice is to get your ticket when they go on sale EARLY or you won't get into the gym. There are only a limited amount available to the general public. The rest is reserved for students/Yellow Jacket Club members. They will list on the R-MC website and in the T-D when they will be on sale-go get them then!It really is a good time and a great atmosphere.Crenshaw doesen't hold nearly as much as the Batten Center or the H-SC gym-but it's LOUD!

Thanks, RMC1982.  As I've mentioned before, it's perhaps my only legal, yet still unmarketable, skill.  :)  Usually, when I sign on, I have no idea that I'll read something that "deserves" a limerick - then boom!, there it is.  lol

Jacketlawyer's one of my favorites and we've met several times, so this one's for you, Gordon!  Glad your and RMC1982's Jackets are having a great season.

Any RMC fans traveling to Greensboro on Saturday?
