Guilford over Roanoke by 2 in OT.  Quakers were up comfortably in the second half, but let it slip away.  Pittman fouls out, but they pull out a squeaker.

Thanks for the update.  Quakers had a 15 point lead at the half and, as you said, let it slip away.  Looks as though Gabriel Lowder was "the man" tonight - 20 is probably his career high.  A win on the road - I'll take it!  Now a week off until W&L visits.

H-SC 71 - Bridgewater 50  H-SC was up 15 at half time and that was with 13 turnovers by H-SC - Ward and George had good games - George double-double and Ward with 16 with some great 3 pointers - Ward has turned it around in last three games - everyone played and young guys are improving - several times when only Freshman and Soph. on court - over 50 rebounds for game - road trip week forthcoming to E&H and Ferrum (#19 in country now)

South Region
1 Virginia Wesleyan 18-1 14-1
2 Randolph-Macon 17-3 15-3
3 Ferrum 18-2 16-2
4 Centre 15-3 13-3
5 Mary Hardin-Baylor 15-4 15-4
6 Texas-Dallas 14-5 13-4
7 Emory 14-4 14-4
8 East Texas Baptist 13-5 12-5

EMU (15-4, 9-4 in-region) has 6 non-region games (Penn St.-Brandywine, Southern Va., Lancaster Bible, Bluefield Col., Penn St.-Beaver, & Berkeley).  My guess is that, if they'd played 6 weak non-conference opponents such as those played by Emory instead of these 6 non-region opponents, their record would be 15-4 in-region and they'd be ranked at #5 or #6.

Emory's best win is probably their 8-point victory over Guilford or 4-point win over Maryville; they've lost all of the other ones against top-quality opponents (as well as a game to LaGrange and a 11-point loss to W&L).  EMU has beaten #3 regionally-ranked Ferrum and lost to #2 RMC on two occasions by only 5 points.

The methodology employed for these polls has not accurately captured EMU's status as one of the, in my opinion, one of the best 3-5 teams in the South.  Oh, well ....  I think they have a good shot at the tournament if they lose only to VWC at home .... and they could easily win that game.  They'd finish the season at 20-5 and probably get to play Guilford again in the ODAC tournament quarters (#4/#5).  They'd probably need to win that game and get to the semifinals to get a Pool C bid; with a loss in the semis, they'd be 21-6.

The other thing to point out about those non-region teams... some of them aren't even NCAA Division III teams! If it ever got to their overall resume, those games won't be considered, either!

Also, EMU is 6-4 in conference and not that far removed from being only 4-4. They are not as good as they should be... and I am not sure saying they are the best 3-5 school in a very tough south region is fair. Yes, they beat Ferrum, but don't forget they have lost to W&L and Randolph (the Wildcats are doing well, but their SOS suffers because of their out-of-conference schedule).

20-5 could look good... but those losses are ones that will hurt.

Technically that isn't true. The secondary criteria allows for straying away from DIII.

Randolph's SOS was .547 through last weekend and compares very favorably with the rest of the ODAC and South region. What's wrong with that?

Agreed - the ODAC is helping that and their OWP, but their out of conference schedule isn't a terrific thing, and that can sometimes come back on other teams.

With all due respect, are you actually looking at what Randolph's non-conference SOS calculates out to or are you just going on what you think might be accurate?

^ Probably a dumb question, but where can we find the stats for strength of schedule?

Big home game tomorrow for the Jackets against the Generals!

GO JACKETS!!!!

I come up with a SOS of 0.559 for Randolph's non-conference slate (at Shenandoah, vs. Ferrum, at Greensboro). It would have been 0.535 under the old system.
