Quakers over the Wildcats, 65-48, in Greensboro.  Guilford improves to 16-7, 10-4 while Randolph slips to 15-8, 8-6.  Every ODAC team that's beaten GC on the road (RMC, Randolph and W&L) has fallen when they came to Ragan-Brown.  Hope the same thing happens when EMU visits next Saturday.  Meanwhile, we travel to face a very hot Tiger team at HSC Wednesday night!

Congratulations to today's winners throughout the league!

HSCDad

No doubt fouls high but H-SC took it to them underneath - technicals were unusal types - coach once, language once and double technical that fouled out one on each team - head of ODAC officials was in attendence so we were told so he saw first hand how handled - VW 3 point output was controlled by H-SC defense and that made a big difference - H-SC is getting great bench assistance with freshmen

donho

HSCdad, you agreed with the high number of fouls, I will agree with you about the underneath game. If VWC has a weakness that i have seen it is that while their 4 and 5 men can jump they lack true big men size. They can be pushed around if you use someone of size against them.

donho

Yeah Nova what have you guys got going down there in Carolina???

Makes me think of an old Beatles song...................with a little help from my.........'s

Can't figure out what that's supposed to mean, donho .... but I can guarantee you that anyone watching how the Marlin big men banged and fouled the Tigers over and over wouldn't have argued with the way the refs' called the fouls.  All those guys -- Vaughn, Astorga, Davis, and Brown -- seemed to be playing under the basket as if they didn't have to worry about having their fouls called.  Perhaps they hoped they could get Harrison George fouled out of the game if they played it rough enough.  And Macedo stood on the court the whole game, but was finally called on it and given a technical.  The Marlins' bench taunted the Sydney players in a way I haven't seen any ODAC bench do this season.

The Tigers played their best game of the season ... they have been getting better and better ... and now, having lost by 2 points to the #11 Yellow Jackets and by 2 to Lynchburg, they've put together three 10-19 point victories over Randolph, Bridgewater, and Emory & Henry, plus a victory over #19 Ferrum and #6 VWC.  They are clearly among the best five teams in this league, along with VWC, RMC, EMU, and Guilford.  Harrison George (22 pts, 6 reb) should be among the top two vote-getters for POY this year, and Ru White (16 pts, 9 reb) is certainly an All-ODAC second-teamer, if not a first-teamer.  Randall Ward (17 pts, 4 assists) and Colin O'Neill (11 pts) are playing their career best over the past 5 games, and Sasha Obradovic was really quite impressive this afternoon.  Ben Jessee, although shooting little, was strong throughout and had 5 assists.  The Tigers shot 50% against a solid Marlin defense, 33% from behind the arc, and 72% from the foul line.  They outrebounded the Marlins, 40-33.

Oddly enough, the Tigers still have a shot at the #5 seed ..... and it's still a possibility that the Quakers could be the #1 seed for the tournament.

This is the mathematically possible range of possibilities:
VWC:  #1-#4
RMC :  #1-#3
Guilford:  #1-#5
EMU:  #2-#5
Randolph:  #3-#7
HSC:  #5-#9
Lynchburg:  #5-#9
W&L:  #6-#10
Roanoke:  #6-#10
Bridgewater: #8-#11
E&H:  #10-#11

Hampden-Sydney and their raucous crowd always makes the Fleet a tough place to play, and judging by algernon's report of the game it seemed like they made it as tough as ever... the tech's high number of fouls... sounds like a very intense game. Hopefully this game will make VWC better though because they have to take on another tough team with a tough crowd in EMU on Monday.

hsctigers2002

Key points from the game:
1) H-SC abused the Marlins in the paint. They only won the points in the paint, 32-26, but they fouled out the entire front line for the Marlins
2) VWC died by the three today. 5-23 shooting from the three is pretty much going to lose you every ball game.
3) the VWC bench (as well as the fans) was warned numerous times by the police to stop their jawing with the fans. Clearly this activity was not looked down upon by the Marlin coaches as they didn't appear to make any effort to shut their players up
4) An Ed Roberts clearly intentional foul on Harrison George with 16 seconds left led to a confrontation between players (which resulted in the double technical) that the coaches had to break up. The refs would have been fully justified in issuing more technicals, had they done it.
5) The police had to escort the VWC players into their locker room at the end of the game because they were confronting fans on the way back.

Needless to say, VWC didn't do anything to make anyone think they weren't the various derogatory terms that have been tossed around here to describe them. I won't go into name calling, but you all know what they are.

DeWayneCarter

Nooo I dont know what those words are..... What are they? Why can't we leave the name calling to the players and the fans who were doing it during the game?? We have to resort to that on the message boards now?

DeWayneCarter

And from what I've seen on this board the past few years I've been looking at it, no one has called anyone on this board or any team on this board anything derogatory, so hsctigers I wanna know, what are some of the words that are tossed around on here about VWC... since you seem to know so much about that subject? Because clearly everyone else doesn't know what they are except for you. No need to bring anything here that wasn't here before, that includes whatever obscenities you want to "toss around."

No need to act naive - the words have been tossed around numerous times over the past decade. It's pretty widely known across this board and amongst ODAC fans or fans of other ODAC schools.  Ask jdubyadubya, he's a VWC fan and has seen them on here before.

DeWayneCarter

I didn't ask jww I asked you! If they're so widely known then just share them again for everyone else to see again if their so commonly used!

Mr. Ypsi

As someone not even from your part of the country, I can give one:

Rightly or wrongly they have often been termed "the thugs from the beach" on this thread.

marlinpg10

It's funny how the team with all but about 4 african american kids is called thugs... is that the reason hsctiger. Lets be serious. it was a heated game and the refs didnt know if they wanted to let both teams play or call it tight simple as that. And as far as the fans i'm pretty sure they were talking to the marlin players. I recall a few years back an old man cussing at Macedo

algernon

There's no need for name-calling

However, it's certainly true that, at the game today, I definitely saw the worst behaved bench that I have seen all year.  The Marlins on the bench, many of whom get no playing time at all, taunted the Sydney players who were on the floor.  Unbelievably, they even lowered themselves to getting into some kind of ongoing back-and-forth with the Sydney fans.  The massively intentional foul on Harrison George by a Marlin player at the end of the game was completely unprovoked and occurred when the outcome was not in any way in doubt .... the Marlins were down by 10 points and there were about 20 seconds left.  Coach Macedo allows this kind of player behavior to go on, year after year, and I think that he bears full responsibility for it.

Many ODAC fans have made similar observations.  Name-calling isn't necessary, but Coach Macedo could do something about it and he lets it go on.
