H-SC 71  E&H 61  sloppy last 2:30 minuts as E&H out scored HSC by 8 - White had 17 with 14 rebounds - sad that O'Neil in protecting a teammate was ejected so can't play Friday - ref's called loosely and that led to some obviously bad calls that caused bad feelings  - H-SC defense was great - on to Salem

If a player is ejected, they are also suspended from the next game?

I copied this from the "2010 & 2011 NCAA MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RULES":

RULE 10 / FOULS AND PENALTIES
Section 7. Suspensions for Fighting
Art. 1. Any member or team personnel who participates in a fight
(regardless of whether he or she is a player at the time) shall be assessed
a flagrant technical foul. No free throws shall be attempted by either
team when there are double flagrant fouls that are offsetting.
Art. 2. The first time an individual participates in a fight during the
season (including exhibition games), the individual shall be suspended
from participating in the team's next regular-season game (not an
exhibition contest), including tournament competition.

So if a player is ejected for fighting, the player is suspended.

O'Neil received a second techical foul and he had to leave the court - actually to dressing room - a E&H player also had two but he did not have to leave - not sure why not - White had stolen a ball but fell on the floor - a E&H player jumped on him - several players surrounded them and Colin ran in and grab someone and he was called - hard to make out on streaming TV as to what happened in the crowd - they did shoot fouls at each end - ref's took almost 7 minutes to make their minds up - very strange

HSCDad,
I was at the game and we had no idea exactly what happened.  We saw exactly what you described.  I never shown any punches.  The officials lost control of the game in the first half when a total of 5 fouls were called.  They were allowing the players to play (and foul in my opinion) and not calling anything.  They came out in the second half and the physical play continued but the officials started blowing the whistles.  I complained because of no calls in the first half, but I complained because of a lack of consistency on the officials part in the second half.  If it is not a foul in the first half, it shouldn't be in the second either.  Generally I believe that officiating is something that players have to adjust to and learn to play through.  That was hard tonight when it appeared we had two entirely different officiating crews.

All Colin did in the way of physicality was push a guy. There were worse personal fouls than what he did and the refs let some of those go by the way side.

There are two types of flagrant technical fouls - contact and non-contact. Therefore, flagrant technical does not automatically = fighting. I find it hard to believe that a player could be given a contact flagrant technical foul (thus fighting) for a push. Given we are talking ODAC refs, nothing surprises me, so many of them have no clue at all how to control a game much less do a good job just calling fouls. They even let an E&H guy check back in to the game after getting two technical fouls for Christ sake!

Thank you Brian for update.  Sad that Coilin - the only Senior and Captain had to take the brunt of the issue - not sure how he got the first technical - at the 2nd time, it appeared that he was separating people moreso than involved in a fight - just as it ended, I saw one E&H player rush at him  but someone grabbed the E&H player - a ref was right there and then the 7 minutes discussion started - if Colin does have to sit out Friday night - Williamson and Potapov will arise to the occassion and we will see H-SC's 2011-12 team in action - Colin will be a great cheerleader for the team as he has been all year

My guess is that Fletcher Lumpkin will also see increased playing time on Friday night vs. EMU.

Yes, given the matchup, I would surmise that Fletcher is the one most likely to get the most minutes between him, Khobi, and Potapov. Fletcher got 18 minutes last night, Khobi 13, and Potapov just four. Apparently Potapov was either a terrible matchup for E&H or he has fallen out of favor. Fletcher is the clear superior passer of the three - it's really not even close as Fletcher is one of the best passing posts I've seen in the ODAC - and we will need his excellent court vision and tremendous amount of hustle to help keep the offense in sync and to help relieve the EMU ball pressure. As I am sure you can tell, he is my favorite player on the team, along with Ru White.

I agree and forgot contributions that Fletcher Lumpkin has made along with other freshman especially during the last 4 weeks.  Great backups to Colin.

Thanks for the heads-up.  I think that Eastern Mennonite at #5 makes a lot of sense, although I could argue they should be #4.  Anyway, it's probably time for ODAC fans to start rooting for Ferrum to win the USA South tournament, so that Eastern Mennonite gets to the Pool C table.

Tough to argue EMU up a spot when Ferrum has three more games and wins as regional games... giving them a better regional record percentage.
