How good will EMU be next season?  With five key seniors leaving, I suspect it may be a few years before the Royals can duplicate the success they've had the last two years.

I think VWC and RMC will still be strong in 2011-12.  I also see HSC, Randolph and W&L as teams on the rise.  Guilford needed a year to rebuild a bit - I expect them to be a twenty game winner again.  I'm a little more uncertain about what next season holds for the Royals.   Anyone else have an opinion?

Roanoke, E&H, LC and BC - as they say in Missouri, show me what you can do.

As a RMC fan, I'm not kidding myself about next year.  Losing 7 Seniors would hurt any team, including RMC.  So, I don't see RMC in the top tier of the ODAC next year.  I'd say that the top tier will be VWC, HSC, Guilford, and Randolph, in that order.   But, I do see R-MC as the best of the rest. However, we still have this year to enjoy.

On the other side of the bracket, I have Randolph-Macon winning their first two games against Alvernia and St. Mary's, traveling to Middlebury, Vermont (or Mahway, NJ?) to defeat Ramapo and Middlebury, and then beating both Stevens Point and Williams to return the national championship trophy to the ODAC once again in 2011.

I would LOVE to see this happen. Hopefully last year was a good learning experience for the Jackets because it was clear from watching that they were not up to the task in the semi-final against Stevens Point.

Interesting article on the Jackets in the Richmond paper this morning explaining why neither our men's or women's team was hosting this weekend.....apparently the NCAA made a mistake... :o ::) :P..DO YA THINK??? ;) :D ;D :P ??? ::)

Agreed, though they'd better not forget the pounding they took from Wabash either. :-[

+2 for me in the Men's Basketball bracket challenge, given that all of the home teams won last night.  Mary Hardin-Baylor will go to McMurry tomorrow evening to play for the opportunity to play again next weekend in a sectional.

I've looked at the numbers and still think the Royals deserved to be ranked at #3 or #4 in the South, which would have brought them to the table and resulted in a bid.  In that case, we might have had Mary Hardin-Baylor playing McMurry last night for the opportunity to travel to Harrisonburg tomorrow evening for a game with the Royals -- with #15 EMU (22-5) getting the bye in the opening round, rather than NR McMurry (21-7).

Been saying they should've been ranked higher in the South all along. Regardless of whether or not they played as many in region games as Ferrum, MHB, McMurray, or UT-Dallas.  :-\

Unbelievable, makes me wonder about NCAA's commitment to DIII.  Do you think a mistake like this would be made in DI, heck no.  They simply could care less about DIII.  Now, if they would just admit their mistake about EMU.

RMC win out, and make their mistake our win!

Yep. I was at that Wabash game and was impressed with how well Wabash defended the Jackets. I think it was great defense by Stevens Point that was the Jackets' undoing in last year's semi-final. Hopefully the Wabash loss was an early season abberation partly due to being on a long road trip over a holiday weekend and many of the players not having their families there. I met the Jonsees, Kevin Voelkel's mom and some of Calvin Croskey's family. Don't know who else might have had family there, but it certainly wasn't everybody.

They have the proper attitude. Worrying about this now will serve no purpose.  Just win out.

This is the last I'll say about this, I guess:

1)  EMU should have been ranked ahead of Ferrum, given that their in-region Win% (16-5, .762) was close enough to Ferrum's (20-5, .800) that other factors would be given consideration.  The Royals' SOS (.499) was higher than Ferrum's (.471), their Win% against Regionally Ranked teams (2-3, .400) was higher than Ferrum's (.250, 1-3).  Plus, they had beaten Ferrum in a head-to-head matchup.

2) Had EMU been ranked higher than Ferrum, they would have come to the table after UT-Dallas got a Pool C bid.  At that point in the decision-making, I think that EMU would have very reasonably been given a bid ahead of either Gwynedd-Mercy or Illinois Wesleyan, or both, based on the stats below, given that all three of Eastern Mennonite's "losses against regionally-ranked teams" were to the South's #2 team ... a 2010 Final Four team with EVERYONE back.  On top of that, the Royals had an impressive win over Virginia Wesleyan, the South's #1 ranked team.

G-Mercy (MA):    .800 Reg Win%   .502 SOS         .333 Win% vs. Region Ranked Teams (2-4)
EMU (S)             .762 Reg Win%   .499 SOS         .400 Win% vs. Region Ranked Teams (2-3)
IWU (MW)          .692 Reg Win%   .543 SOS         .500 Win% vs. Region Ranked Teams (2-2)

***  Gwynedd-Mercy had an 0-3 record against Cabrini (21-6), the Mid-Atlantic's #3 team, and was 2-1 against Keystone (21-6), the Mid-Atlantic's #7 team.

***  IWU had an 1-2 record against Augustana (24-3), the Midwest's #1 team, and was 1-0 against Benedictine (21-7), the Midwest's #6 team.

Not a 'worry' on my part, just sharing my humble opinion.
