Just had to stop by to say WAY TO GO, VCU RAMS!!!!

Congrats to R-MC coaching alum Rhoades --- can surely see his inlfuence in the Rams' defense.  Especially today!

Do you think he might be VCU's head coach next year, if Shaka Smart gets a better offer?

A friend of mine out here in St. Louis who is a University of Missouri grad says Mizzou fans want Shaka Smart to come to Mizzou and bring his staff with him to replace Mike Anderson who just left to Mizzou for the Arkansas job.
Matt Painter of Purdue is seriously considering the job. Going to meet with Missouri soon to get a feel for how committed the school is to the basketball program. Might just be a ploy to get more money from Purdue, but if Purdue doesn't pony up the $$$ I would not be the least bit surprised if Painter goes to Missouri over $$$.

Shaka is saying all the right things at this point, that he cant see himself leaving or having to tell his players that he is leaving after such a special run....but there are also rumors of NC State having interest in him, and coupled with the Missouri rumors, VCU would certainly have to pony up some coin to keep him...would be very interesting to see what happens should Shaka take a Big 12 or ACC job...knowing Rhoades, his ambition is certainly not to be an asst for too long, and he is certainly an integral part of every game plan for VCU and the way they defend.

With roots in Richmond from RMC days, and his ability to recruit locally in the Richmond Metro area, as well as his ties and recruiting links to PA and NJ, VCU would be luck to get Mike, should they be in the market for a coach...for now I would say they are enjoying the run, and consider this a "good problem"

I would say, at this point, this is as marketable as Shaka Smart will be.  He's taken VCU to the Final Four with 5 NCAA wins and it's not likely to happen again.  If he wants a DI job, he'll get his chances by April 5.  I'm betting NC State sneaks into the mix.

Brian Hamilton

NOVA,
VCU is a DI job.  I think you meant a BCS Conference head coaching job or major conference coaching job.

Since the conversation here is currently on coaches:

BOSTON, MA--Randolph-Macon Men's Basketball Head Coach Nathan Davis has been named one of 17 finalists for the 2011 Glenn Robinson Division III Coach of the Year Award as announced by collegeinsider.com.

There's much more to the story including his record at R-MC:  51-12 overall and 24-8 in the ODAC.

Congrats to Coach Davis!

GO RAMS!!!

Yes, you're exactly right, Brian.  Thanks for the clarification.  I consider VCU in the "mid-major" group, as opposed to the ACC, Big East, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10 and so forth.

Head Coach Gregg Marshall (R-MC '85) at Wichita State wins the NIT.

He's being mentioned tonight on ESPN for several openings such as Missouri and NC State.

To my nemesis, be fair.  I haven't posted since April 5 (and that was nothing to get upset about), but you've gone in daily for the last week to 10 days and dinged me.  Did I do something to tick you off?  I "get" karma and smiting, but I don't understand smiting when you don't post anything.  :)

Thanks, Ralph, but that's probably open to debate.  lol  According to Pat's post on ODAC football, he may be envious of 17 others as well.  :)

Hasa - ignore the doubters.  You had a "nemesis" a few years back & look where you are now. You've always struck me as a glass half full kind of guy. Dash them with Donald Sutherland's line from Kelly's Heroes - " :P Always with the negative vibes Moriarty"
If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot. Dean Smith

Yeah, I know.  It just sucks when the negative vibes constantly interrupt the music from your tank's speakers. :)

Interesting game:

And to follow up.  There's a very familiar R-MC jersey (#30) in Pic. #6 in the link below-- Danny Jones played on the VCU/UR team:

Eric Pugh also got in the game, replacing the Duke player, & played about the *only* defense we saw on the Challenger side all night.  It was a lot of fun watching the bigs play... Danny & Eric each scored & had some fun.  We will really miss those 2 players & the rest of the senior class of 2011.  GO JACKETS!!!

Hang in there hasanova... we also took a bunch of hits & haven't been here since March.  Someone's been busy catching up?  Loved the last limerick & congrats to the Quakers on the Golf Championship!  :)
