So he is 7', 255 pounds, basically was a cheerleader on the bench in high school, and going D3?

Yep, that's the definition of a long term project player.
wasn't tyler sanborn a bit of a long-term project when he first arrived at guilford?

I know Emory & Henry, Hampden-Sydney and Lynchburg have had some Florida players. I'm sure W&L has had some Floridians given the diversified geography of their team every year. Emory & Henry had Lance Reasbeck. Lynchburg had Pete Manos. Hampden-Sydney had Jonathan Mudd and Shayne Payne. Additionally, Alex Potapov from H-SC went to high school in Florida, but is from Russia. After looking at roster, there are only three current players listed as from Florida: Tyler Burnett for Lynchburg and Jorel Torrell and Joey Earle for E&H.
Nice work - thanks for researching this.  +1

Since 2000, RMC has had the following FL players:

Tim Smith - Jacksonville
Buck Poropatich - Boca Raton
Derrick DelaGrana - Miami
Paul Gartlan - Coral Gables

Yes, but he did have more success in HS than Fromang, albeit in 1A ball at Elkin (NC) HS.  At his height, Sanborn dominated against 1A HS competition (NC's lowest level) rarely over 6'4".  From his freshman year at Guilford until his junior year in college, I don't think I ever saw a player transform his body and his game as much.  He hit the weight/conditioning room and learned how to play against guys his own size.  Of course, it didn't hurt that his competition in practice his first two years at Guilford was another National POY, Ben Strong.  Tyler will openly tell you he realized he had to change to be a success and, to his credit, he did.

Nova, looking at Guilford's roster, it's a young team and loses very little talent going into next year.  Speaking of big men, what's the latest on Best and Stafford and their development?  Did Best even play in a game last year, no stats?

Let's hope that Fromang has a similar work effort and similar success.

Not sure.  I'd say Stafford will have a "larger" role in 2011-12 with Akinsola graduating, but I don't think he's destined for Strong/Sanborn-type numbers.  In my opinion, he'll be around a 10 point/8 rebound player - which anyone in the league would take.  Speaking of Best, he did not appear in a varsity game last season, but I heard he developed a lot on the JV.  As a rising Junior, I expect him to be on the varsity this season, but I don't know what impact he'll have.  An Assistant Coach also told me the Quakers had success on the recruiting trail, but I promised I wouldn't give any details until things were announced officially.  I'm hoping for a 20-win season.

78rmc, Tim Smith is from the Baltimore/ Washington D.C. area. I believe his family moved to Florida after he arrived at R-MC.

And Derrick DelaGrana was only at R-MC for his freshman season, then transferred to NAIA Reinhardt (GA). http://www.reinhardteagles.com/roster/4/4.php I'd seen him play at R-MC in 05-06, then Reinhardt came to play at
Webster U here in St. Louis and they had this kid that looked really familiar to me and I finally figured out it was DelaGrana. This doesn't negate the fact that DelaGrana came to R-MC from Florida, nor that Florida can provide good talent for D3 schools in other states.

Don, you're right as usual.  I simply checked old rosters.  It didn't seem right when I wrote it.

I remember when this kid 'signed' with RMC.  He was suppose to be the next great player at RMC.

Can't wait to see Coach Davis' recruits.  He's been living off of Rhoades' guys, now he needs to do it on his own.  Will be an interesting year for RMC.  I expect it will be a down year, but hopefully not too far down.

The class of 2011 was exceptional. We also have to wonder what Rhoades would have in the hopper right now if he were still at R-MC.

We'll never know for sure, but Rhoades did have a history of reloading.  For Davis, we'll have to wait and see.

Richmond paper reports that Mike Rhoades interviewed for Princeton job.  Princeton hires one of its own in Mitch Henderson '98.

News and notes regarding BC recruits.  For BC's sake I hope some of these guys can play right away or they will continue their descent to the bottom of the ODAC under Burgess.
