Keep in mind Ferrum is without Derek Mitchell and Keith Crump this year, by far and away their two best players from a season ago. Nothing close to the same team that made it to the NCAA Tournament last year. Derek Mitchell was one of the best players they ever had. They barely beat what is likely to be another bad Roanoke team.

Huntingdon is nothing to get excited over either - LaGrange was clearly the second best team in the Huntingdon Classic. Huntingdon's close loss to Birmingham Southern was clearly a fluke or BSU just isn't as good as their preseason ranking indicates. Huntingdon may have won the GSAC last year, but it was with a 12-14 overall record.

The Macon W over CNU is the only notable win thus far.W&L's win over Dickinson is a solid W and so is Macon's win over Rutgers-Newark.

I don't agree. CNU was the preseason #2 and Ferrum #3 in the USA South ... Not a whole lot of difference in the assessment of these two team's chances.

How do you know that "Huntingdon's close loss to Birmingham Southern was clearly a fluke or BSU just isn't as good as their preseason ranking indicates" ... ?  Why do you say that "W&L's win over Dickinson is a solid W and so is Macon's win over Rutgers-Newark"?

without crump and mitchell, ferrum is likely to be very average...at this point (admittedly incredibly early), i'd say there is a wide gap between the perception of cnu and ferrum unless ferrum brought in some serious talent

Former ODAC and National POY Ben Strong is with the Iowa Energy of the NBA's Developmental League:

His friend (and Guilford Assistant Coach) Caleb Kimbrough told me Ben made the Iowa squad.

Former ODAC and National POY Tyler Sanborn is with Lievin in France.  I looked up his stats and he's started all 9 games and has 122 points on 50 of 92 from the field and 22 of 44 from the FT line.  He's doing well on rebounding and blocked shots too.

Who says newspapers don't cover D3 sports? Here is a GREAT article on VWC coach Dave Macedo. http://hamptonroads.com/2011/11/virginia-wesleyan-smallcollege-stalwart

CORRECT DeWayne and DonHo!! While I've never been a big Macedo fan-probably because he beats my beloved Jackets with regularity.....;-)......You gotta TOTALLY respect him for what he does year in and year out. While I love Nathan Davis he's still a puppy in this league.Dave Macedo is head and shoulders above everyone in the ODAC and most probably in the entire country-NOBODY works harder-especially in our Hampton Roads area, to get the kids he does to compete at this level.Hat's off to a great coach and a great guy!!

The gap between the first two teams in the USA South (NC Wesleyan, CNU) and the rest is quite large. I've seen both teams with my own eyes, it's not even a competition, CNU is on a whole different level than Ferrum.

The field at the Huntingdon Classic was bad other than H-SC. H-SC easily handled the team that finished second - LaGrange. Huntingdon finished dead last. Huntingdon would likely be battling it out for worst in the ODAC this year. Huntingdon is BAD, hence why I say there close games against BSU was either a fluke or BSU just isn't as good as advertised.

Dickinson and Rutgers-Newark are just better than Huntingdon, there is no doubt about it. Better records last year, better conference, and better returning talent. Dickinson and Rutgers-Newark eash would win a healthy majority of the games against Huntingdon if they played a 7-games series to completion. Actually, I'll say that the win over Rutgers-Newark is a notable win to go along with the CNU win.

hsctigers2002 ... Which of the NC Wesleyan & CNU games did you see this year?

Tonights ODAC matchups and my predictions:

-Hampden-Sydney @ Methodist

HSC as Methodist drops another one and goes 0-4

-Emory & Henry @ Ferrum

Ferrum in a close one

-Averett @ Guilford

Guilford in a blow out

-Lynchburg @ Marymount (Va.)

I got Lynchburg in a close one

-Washington & Lee @ Shenandoah

I got W and L as Shenandoah has not looked good in any of their games so far

-Virginia Wesleyan @ Salisbury

Obviously I got VA Wesleyan but I think this one is going to be closer then what everyone thinks

-Roanoke @ Bluefield St

This one could go either way as both teams arent that good right now

Hasa-No Offense to Coach Polumbo at all.........I know he works hard.........but ANYBODY connected to the Hampton Roads area and VWC will tell you the same thing-Macedo GETS WHO HE WANTS(for the most part) From this area!! He froze Mike Rhoades out pretty good here, and Mike is a HELLUVA GREAT COACH AND A GREAT RECRUITER!! Polumbo did pretty well here but not as good as KINGFISH-I'm not taking anything away from Coach Polumbo AT ALL......he's just not KINGFISH that's all-at least in recruiting in this talent-rich "757"!

Lynchburg was up 41 with 5 minutes (91-50) to go and coach Scott empties his bench. Hornets win by 22 94-72.

HSC loses to Methodist by 2. Sounded like they went extremely cold at the end of the game. I'll let someone with more info fill us in.
