HSC loses to Methodist by 2. Sounded like they went extremely cold at the end of the game. I'll let someone with more info fill us in.
Pitiful rebounding and inability to play without turning over the ball, was a problem the first two games as well, H-SC was jsut making enough shots to mask it.

They gave up 22 offensive rebounds tonight, absolutely inexcusable with the talent on that roster. H-SC was up 5 with a little over three minutes to go and Dee Vick got whistled for a technical foul that changed the game. Methodist made both Fts and got the ball back to make a jumper that completely turned around the game. Also didn't shoot particularly well and were not aggressive enough on offense. Had 31 three point attempts on 70 shots. That would be an acceptable ratio if we were running the system, but we aren't.

Harrison also had a terrible performance and apparently was showing poor body language (according to the audio broadcast). He didn't even play in the second half and the team was markedly better on the scoreboard when he was out of the game in the first half. This happens too frequently for a guy of his caliber and he needs to grow out of it but I question if he will ever mature enough to the point to quit it.

Methodist came to play and H-SC didn't. Embarrassing loss. This is the kind of team H-SC is supposed to run off the floor, but the Tigers come out with another pitiful road loss that happens far too often for a team that puts out as much talent as it does.

Guilford all over Averett tonight, 90-56.  Josh Pittman with his best game of the season with 29.  He was 7 of 11 from the field with 6 of 9 threes and 9 of 9 FTs.  The Quakers move to 5-0 and the Cougars fall to 0-4.

rmc1982 - No offense taken, just trying to keep things interesting.  :)  Coach Macedo is definitely a great coach and does, without a doubt, get a boat load of talent in the Tidewater.  I'm looking forward to a great ODAC season!

Remember what I said about that target on VWC's backs? Well Salisbury is giving them everything they've got right now, up 10 with just under 6 to go in the second half... VWC better be ready because they're gonna get this effort from every team pretty much every game this season.

VWC goes down at Salisbury 68-65... guess we're still winless hasa  :-\

I was sincerely hoping the Marlins would run the table in nonconference play.  Personally, I think the Marlins waited too long to play their first game.

just got back from the hsc-mu game - let me say this...the monarchs came to play tonight - they played hard and went after it...i'm not sure they played the best game they are capable of, but they really competed...i said before the season that i thought mu could win 14 to 16 games against a REALLY tough schedule (4 top 25 teams and 2 d1's along with only 8 home games) - this is the way i expected the monarchs to play this season...they've got talented guards and 2 really solid bigs in combs and hockaday - combs had 4 fouls and didn't play a lot in the second half, but hockaday had a double double with 18/10 - whitehead was spectacular at times, but he didn't shoot particularly well - in fact, the monarchs really didn't play a great game statistically...they shot just 40% (they've shot over 42% on the season) and were just 2 of 10 from 3 (they were shooting 38% from 3 on the season) - they did cut down their turnovers, but still had 15 (they had averaged 22 to's per game on the season) - they did out-rebound sydney, which isn't shocking...the monarchs have 4 guys that really go to the glass hard in hockaday, combs, stallings and jernigan

sydney is a good ball club, and i wouldn't be shocked to see them win 18+ games - they are REALLY long and athletic and #2 might be one of the best shooters i've ever seen...kid can stroke it - they move the ball really well and can get nice open looks - #5 struggled shooting tonight but he kept heaving it up...i'm sure he's a better shooter than he was tonight, but i was very comfortable any time he shot it - his stroke didn't look like that of a pure shooter, and he wasn't going to dribble around any of the monarch defenders - when #1 was in the game instead of him, i felt like hsc was more productive - the monarchs played a psuedo match-up zone, which i was a little surprised by...they gave up 11 threes, and honestly, it was as though the monarchs were ok with that

i disagree with the earlier post that the tech changed the game...it clearly was a nice momentum continuation for the monarchs, though - the hsc coach must have said something really nasty, because it was a quick T...maybe too quick, to be honest, but i didn't hear what he said - i will say that i overheard a conversation between the ref who called it and coach smith about something a monarch player had said, and i think that ref was itching to be part of the action tonight, 'cause i thought he was going to "t" up coach smith

i think this was a case of hsc perhaps playing a c+ game and the monarchs playing a b- game and the monarchs coming out on top, but i don't think the loss is a condemnation of the tigers season...i've thought since before the season started that the monarchs were one of the top 3 teams in the usasac and i think if they play their best every night in conference, they can be really good - we'll see

I agree. Im sure Coach Macedo had a good reason to do what he did regarding the scheduling but I can't help but think to myself that the late start to the season had something to do with it. This was Salisbury's 4th game, and VWC's 1st. VWC still had a chance to win or tie the game though. They were down 3 with about 2 mins left in the game and turned the ball over right in front of their bench, so there really are no excuses. They just got outplayed tonight.

Let's give credit to the Monarchs for their tight win in upsetting Hampden-Sydney last night.  Ben Jessee wasn't hitting any of his 3s, Harrison George was benched for the last 16+ minutes of play after 3 turnovers in 1:22 minutes of action near the beginning of the second half, the Tigers made too many turnovers altogether and gave up too many rebounds, and the Monarchs took advantage of a bad Tiger night!

One thing is for sure: The ODAC is a conference where nobody can count on the AQ ticket to the NCAA tournament .... not the Marlins, not the Tigers, not anyone else.  Each and every loss dramatically decreases a team's chances of getting a Pool C bid in March, if the team does not conclude their season by winning a very tough ODAC conference tournament in February.  In a conference like the ODAC where a 13-3 conference record is really a huge accomplishment, a team just cannot afford nonconference losses.

EMU stayed home last March with a 22-5 record!  3 of their 5 losses were to a team that had been to the Final Four the year before.

Wow I guess my picks werent the best last night #1 and #23 go down in the same night theres no way I could have seen HSC losing to a winless Methodist team  :o but thats the great thing about basketball anyone can win on any given night and man Lynchburg looks real good so far this ODAC season is going to be interesting if Lynchburg can keep up this level of play

TigerFan11

Do any fellow HSC fans know what is going on with Harrison George? I was really suprised to see he had been coming of the bench and then I saw he didn't play for most of the 2nd half against Methodist.

HSCDad

H-SC 38 - Shen 32 at half - four big time H-SC players benched for rules breaking (George one of those plus 2 freshman)- H-SC only 2-13 from 3 points with Shen shooting 60% - 12 for 20 overall - H-SC bench strength showing with 15 off the bench so this will be very helpful as season progresses - Coach Vick working
on rotation that is best - not there yet

HSCDad

14:18 to go in 2nd half - H-SC 51 Shen 38 - benched players back into play

R-MC & VWC each win 2 (easily) this weekend against visiting TX teams in Ashland.

The Jackets & the Marlins got a good look at each other without having to play each other.  Hopefully, it's good preparation for a great game on Wed. night.

GO JACKETS!!!
