First, Happy New Year to all!

Second, Guilford's Kevin Gibbs appears to be okay - he had 5 minutes in the game at Emory yesterday, so that certainly seems to answer any concerns about a possible broken bone in the collision at St. Mary's (MD).

Third, the Quakers finished the nonconference portion of their schedule with a 96-84 loss at undefeated and fifth-ranked Emory yesterday.  We led early, but then the Eagles smoked us 'til the half.  GC won the second half, but the halftime deficit was too much to overcome.

We're 8-4, 2-1 heading into the bulk of the ODAC schedule.  Go Quakers!

Marlins win over Lynchburg 108-80.  DJ Woodmore leads all scorers with 35.

Tigers defeat the Generals in Lexington, 77-65. Harrison George, Ben Jessee, and Khobi Williamson were the top scorers with 19, 17, and 14 points respectively.  Ru White added nine points to go with seven assists.  Tigers shot 56% from the field and were 5 for 10 from behind the arc.

The Tigers (9-2) will host the Marlins (9-1) on Wednesday!  Big game for both teams.

In other news yesterday Bridgewater lost to Averett 68-74 and on the 31st Emh beat Maryland Bible 70-58

Ben Jessee now has scored 983 career points and should join the 1000-point club in the next game or two.

Big game tomorrow evening between two excellent teams.  George, Williamson, Jessee, White, Ward, and another 6-8 guys will take on Woodmore, Teasley, Astorga, Vaughn, Ford, and the rest of the Marlin crew.  The Tigers and Marlins are both wanting a #1 tournament seed in February.  This matchup produced a 1-1 split last year.

I'll give HSC the early season nod, and say that HSC wins by 10+, maybe more.  From what I've seen in Ashland, HSC will beat the Jackets by 20+.

OUCH. We can't be that bad at 9-3. Can we? :-[

Alright 78RMC, stop it with the mind games.  The Game is big enough without you trying to get the good guys (HSC) overconfident and provide material for your Jackets.  ;)  Besides we have too many games to play before we can even think about RMC!

Honestly, I think so.  Could easily be 6-6 or worse, with three wins on last second shots.  Interior play is suspect, when we play a team like HSC with size, it won't be pretty.

Why do you HSC guys ALWAYS think we're sandbaggin you.... ;).......78RMC is right-we're suspect inside and we've also been lucky......I do think the Tigers win tonite though-Fleet is a tough place to play and if the students are back.....well.....lets just say they will be baiting those Fish quite a bit-whether or not they let it get to them tells the tale......If they dont it could be close or a Marlins win going away.....if they do then its gonna be a long ride back to Hampton Roads... ;) ::)

The Marlins will win tonight by at least 10.

Unfortunately the students are not back yet.  The crowds over the holidays have been decent though, but they do not heckle like the students.  I expect a good game tonight.

RMC1982 - The problem is that we always get beat from outside by Macon.  They seem to have just enough inside and kill us with the outside shots.  Recall HSC losing by 1 at home to RMC last year on a shot at the buzzer from the corner.

Neither team will win by 10+ if the two teams show up to play the kind of basketball they are capable of playing. These are two elite level defensive teams when they are on top of their game.

HSC has the advantage of home court, which is huge for any team, BUT, if VWC sticks to playing their game they will win.  Going to be a WAR regardless, always has been, always will be.  Marlins will have to execute well and play 40 minutes of great basketball to pull out a W.  Go Marlins!!!
