Neither team will win by 10+ if the two teams show up to play the kind of basketball they are capable of playing. These are two elite level defensive teams when they are on top of their game.

Last year, the Marlins won, 69-61, in Virginia Beach on January 5.  Then the Tigers won, 80-71, at Fleet on February 12.  These two teams are similar to last year, but the Tigers are definitely deeper.

The Marlins appear to be very much the same as the successful 2010-2011 team.  They are starting the same 5 guys:  Teasley, Woodmore, Astorga, Vaughn, and Ford.  They got a lot of time last year from Roberts, Davis, Crew, and Brown.  While Davis, Crew, and Brown continue to be key off the bench, Roberts is injured now and Burns is getting more playing time.  The Marlins started last season with 16 straight wins, not losing until they visited Guilford on January 22.  They began this season with a loss, but they have reeled off 9 straight victories since then.

The Tigers are clearly improved.  They are starting 4 of the 5 guys who started the majority of last year:  George, Ward, White, and Jessee.  Colin O'Neill graduated and is replaced in this year's starting lineup by Khobi Williamson, who is averaging about 12 points and 8 rebounds a game.  The Tigers were getting a lot of time last year from Corrigan, Potapov, and Lumpkin off the bench.  This year, the Tigers are much deeper than last year, with junior point guard Corrigan and sophomore forward Lumpkin continuing to get a lot of playing time, sophomore guard Sasha Obradovic playing more than last year, and the Tigers getting a lot of playing time coming from 3 first-year players:  6-7 forward Cam Anderson (16.8 Min/G, an ODAC-leading .725 FG%, 8.6 Pts/G, 4.4 Reb/G), guard Greg Lewis (16.5 Min/G, 6.3 Pts/G), and freshman point guard Leon Hargrove (9.0 Min/G).

Game begins in less than 3 hours!

VWC will come away with the big W.

78rmc  the reason the jackets are suspect inside is because they do not use their bigmen offensively. Cole has 46 F/G attempts in 12 games, thats hogwash if you ask me.

Final - The Quakers over the Wasps tonight at E&H, 58-57, in OT.  I didn't hear the whole game, but it sounded like a lot of turnovers, poor shooting and spotty officiating.  Guilford's now 9-4, 3-1 while Emory & Henry falls to 6-6, 0-4.

By the way, the Wasps originally lost to Virginia University of Lynchburg, but it's now listed as a 2-0 forfeit win for E&H.  Anyone know the story on that?

That doesn't surprise me about the 2-0 forfeit W. They have a shady coach and he more than likely used an ineligible european.

VWC won't lose a game in the ODAC this year. With as down as the conference is overall compared to the last, I would be very shocked if they lost a game in conference. We are one of the very few teams capable of scoring with VWC but their defense is too good for anyone in the ODAC to handle.

That sounds plausible - a quick look at their boxscore shows a lot of east European-sounding names.

It's tough to make it through all 16 ODAC games without a loss, but it does look as though the Marlins handled the Tigers with ease tonight - and on HSC's home court, no less!

Having seen the Marlins play this evening, I find it impressive that the Yellow Jackets only lost to them by 3 points. They are clearly much better than last year. Extremely fast, with great passing, and GREAT defense.  The Marlins are justifiably at least #2 in the country.  They were more impressive than any Marlin team I have previously seen, and that's saying something.

The Marlins had 11 steals, compared to the Tigers' 3 steals.  They had 25 points off of turnovers, and the Tigers only had 8.

I still expect that the Tigers will lose very few ODAC games this year, but they are going to lose to the Marlins again in February unless they can improve their defense and cut down on the turnovers in the next game.

Jackets were lucky to get the win against Randolph 52-49.  Jackets were totally flat: taking bad shots, turnovers, shots not dropping.  Seeing them play last Fri. (v. Farmingdale State) versus last night = two different teams.  Credit Randolph for aggressive defense; Jackets were down 9 at one point in the 2nd half.

Freshman Zach Desgain (Randolph) played well on both ends but the Wildcats didn't have enough gas in the tank at the end to pull off a win.

GO JACKETS!!!!
