You're right!  It was one of the 10 or 12 most memorable Guilford finishes in my 40+ years of watching Quaker basketball.  Pittman's shot did not appear to touch the rim and it was very deep!  The Guilford players mobbed Pittman and all EMU could do was collapse in disappointment.

Just watched the video of Pittman's deep shot just across the mid court line. The announcers went crazy: "A miracle shot," "the ice man strikes again." Great stuff. ODAC basketball is unreal ;D

With MIT losing to Rhode Island College last night, it will depend on how VWC and UW-Whitewater fare this weekend to determine who MIGHT be number 1 in next's week's poll. Then again, any team in the top ten could jump right into first place. It's going to be an interesting year.

Fishtankfan - What's your take on the Marlins this year? Are they as explosive as past years? The scores seem to indicate that they are keeping their opposition closer than maybe they plan to ;D

HSCDad

H-SC made up for that lost to Methodist last year as they blew them away at 88-51.  The constant rotation give them 55.6% from the floor with 10 for 18 from 3's. 14 turnovers did not hurt with 24 points on assist.  Good game with 47 points from the bench.

FISHTANKFAN

Here is how I see the Marlins this year.  They have four starters back and two new starters in Colby Heard and Trent Batson, both with potential.  Chris Teasley seems to be the steadiest player, with Chris Astorga and DJ Woodward the most explosive, while Tre' Ford runs the point very well.  They are as talented as any team the Marlins have ever had.  They are fast, explosive, have a smothering defense, but can still be inconsistent at times.  After shooting 56% in their first two games, they cooled off to 30% and 42% the next two games.  They can be careless and sloppy because of their speed and this causes too many turnovers, yet when they are in sync and disciplined they may be unstoppable.  They are confident and unselfish and they have the potential to go all the way. I think they are one of the fastest and most dangerous teams the Marlins have ever had, but I am not certain they have the necessary leadership on the floor as in past years.  They have the desire and the talent, the offense and defense but they need to be more disciplined and consistent.  Coach Macedo will expect nothing less.  It is still very early in the season, but it is exciting to think about the possibilities.

Can't follow today's games but hope the Jackets can challenge on the road.  Looks like VWC has a chance to move into the #1 spot-- which is great for them & for the ODAC.

GO JACKETS!!!

Final Guilford 65, Randolph-Macon 55

Physical game in Greensboro today which was back and forth until GC took some measure of control about halfway through the second half.  RMC led 29-27 at the break.  Off night shooting for Pittman, but he still managed a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.  When he's on the court, things happen.  Guilford freshman Zeb Richardson and sophomore Will Freeman with 15 and 10, respectively, led the charge off the bench ... very impressed with both players.  Quaker starter Hopkins also added 12.  Guilford won the boards, 41-30.  RMC was led by Giggetts 12, Hamilton 11 and Simon and Sullivan, both with 9.

Guilford improves to 4-1, 2-0 and RMC falls to 2-4, 1-1.  RMC was very tough on defense ... I feel certain they'll make their mark in the ODAC this season.

Congratulations to Chris Teasley on his 1,000th career point in today's game.  Also to the Marlins on their great second half play to beat Frostburg State 85-64. WTG Marlins.  Also to Guilford for yesterday's win over RMC.  I think Guilford will be a force to contend with this year. The ODAC remains strong once again, with 9 teams having a winning record so far this year.  Not many conferences can say that.  Go ODAC!!!

He's only played 5 games in college, but I offer Guilford's 6'8" Zeb Richardson as "one to watch" for rookies this season.  Zeb's averaging 7.6 ppg and 4.8 rpg in 15 minutes/game playing time.  I hope he can develop in the mold of at least two previous Guilford centers.  :)

Hey, slowpokes!  I guess the outsider has to come in and be the first to congratulate the Marlins on being the new #1!  Only ten points ahead of UWW, so it may not last long - we'll see.

Congratulations to the Marlins on being ranked number one this week in the poll.  While it is quite an honor to be selected number one, it makes the target that much bigger on their backs.  Here's hoping they can live up to the ranking.  Go Marlins!

Congrats to the Marlins!  They're still undefeated, and they have the capability to remain that way well into the future.

If the H-SC Tigers (6-1) had prevented that North Carolina tip-in at the buzzer, they'd have risen from preseason #25 to probably about #15, instead of sinking to #35.  Oh, well .... For any ODAC team, it's about whether they win the next game.

FISHTANKFAN

I think what ultimately hurts HSC is their strength of schedule.  Four of the teams they have beaten so far have not won a game, but if they can win in their ODAC schedule they should be able to move back into the top 25.  I am anxious to see how they match up against the upper tier of the ODAC.  Should be some great games. They are a very talented team, but this is the ODAC and no games are counted in the win column until the last buzzer.  Good luck to all the ODAC teams.
